Honestly I’m so sick of the updates. Every time I log in there’s an update, which is fine except it cancels connection to my banks and then it takes me forever to reconnect . And even after the reconnect the data isn’t updated so now I’ve invested hours into something that should make my life easier but is inoperable. All my data is incorrect, everything I’ve paid can’t find, all my income not tracked. I’m bummed because it didn’t used to have these issues. But now every month I remember I’m annoyed by this app because it doesn’t work when I need it.

I downloaded the app, tried it out for free, let it look at my spending, then deleted it 10 minutes later. I never requested a subscription because I was comparing apps. Later, while reviewing my finances, I saw a charge for the app after I had deleted it, so I had to download it again, but it said I have no active subscription. The AI chat support said to simply request a refund from Apple, but I shouldn’t have to do that for a faulty charge.This seems very sketchy.then answered my review stating that i probably did a free trial and forgot to cancel. If that were true then there woukd ve an active subscription. The apo says no active subscription and i know that i did not do a free trial. It was not worth a free trail just from looking around the app for a few minutes. Im not askinf for a refund because it was just $12. I am warning other users not to put their bank info in this app. I see many other 1 star reviews saying the same thing so its not an isolated incident.

PockerGuard is easy to use and a simple way to track expenses

I’ve found this to be an extremely helpful budgeting and expense tracking app ever since purchasing it a couple years ago. Definitely worth the month. But the most recent update with the Insights tab has actually blown me away! Somehow this visual representation and the ability to slice and dice info in different ways takes this app to a whole new level. Amazing and wonderful. Definitely helpful and worthwhile for anyone who wants insight into their finances.

Let’s go!! Finally, PocketGuard is getting with the times and giving us more analysis tools in the app. I’ve been using this app faithfully for over a year and it’s been sooo simple. Almost too simple. Since I’ve had it, in order to really analyze data I’ve had to export it to excel and make charts and stuff from there. Glad the goons who made this app are figuring out how to code this thing better. Probably with Claude lol. Now just stop locking months when they’re done. If people are too dumb to not mess up their finances after the months over, that’s not your problem. But it’s annoying the heck out of the rest of us. Keep adding cool gadgets, fellas.

I’ve been using this app for the past few years and it has gotten worse with each update. Removing the ability to easily compare spending among categories between the current and past months was the final straw. To make matters worse, the insight section that replaced it is unintuitive and isn’t even completed. Why release an update when 2/3 of the tools aren’t even completed? It’s sad to see a great app slowly decline and become unusable.

This used to be such an amazing tool. I was easily able to see what I was spending in each category and compare month to month. With the newest update, every time I click on the breakdown of categories, the app forces closes. There’s no way for me to tell what I’m spending in each category. I also can’t compare categories month to month.

Huge downgrade in UI. Went from a simple budgeting tool to an over analytical version. I subscribe to the KISS method. This recent update will make me cancel the subscription and get a different app.

The new insight tab is not intuitive. I’ve lost the ability to easily compare expenses month to month. The transactions are not accounting correctly. And only 1/3 of the features are releases. I will have to consider finding a different app to meet my needs

Even when I canceled they keep charging, support is helping

I’ve had this app since 2021 and used it daily for budgeting. In the last year, the app started by not being able to connect with my credit union anymore. After several weeks, they told me they could no longer support my credit card connected to my bank. I was so committed to this app, I actually moved all my purchases to my AmEx. In the last month, the app stopped communicating with my AmEx. After about 3 weeks, they told me they could no longer support my AmEx. Ok, I get a small credit union, but my AmEx?! I signed up for a different app and bam! Immediately connected to my credit union and AmEx and haven’t had any issues. I had a lifetime membership and they told me to get a refund from Apple. Apple says I’m not eligible. Disappointed all around…

Excellent app for managing my finances. Keep the updates coming. I wish the team at PocketGuard all the best and hope they continue to grow. 💗

I’m coming from YNAB so I’m a little spoiled. But PocketGuard is cheaper since they have the lifetime subscription, if it wasn’t for that I wouldn’t have gotten it. I’m guessing that’s why they have the lifetime option because it tricks you into thinking you’re getting a good deal when you’re just getting a subpar app. With YNAB I paid basically $100 a year BUT the goal is to save money, right, so you have to cut spending anywhere you can, UX/UI is a luxury so I ditched YNAB after 10 years with them. I’ve played around with other apps and even excel spreadsheets. I got this because of all the overselling of the features especially the prediction feature. But I’m mostly just tolerating this app. My biggest gripe is that their big selling point the Plan feature (where you can get an estimate of what will be leftover or how much income/expenses are predicted) only works if your income and bills transactions are precisely the same each month. So if your paychecks are different amounts well then you can’t trust the numbers. Same with your expenses, if your utility bill is going to be up $100 this month well PocketGuard doesn’t know that so good luck making any smart predictions. I used to have an app that went away called Prism and that app actually connected to all your bills so it actually knew exactly what amount they would be. I miss those days. Seems like a small ask: Just tell me the exact amount of my upcoming bills please. Insights are okay but my banking app already does that with the pie chart of your expenses and stuff. So not a feature I *need* to pay for. The Rules setting needs UI improvements—it’s not visually friendly to use, it looks like some backend stuff with the if/then statements, nobody wants to think about if/then statements. Also whatever tool they use the pull in the transactions could use improvement with naming conventions and how it categorizes stuff, I know that’s case by case basis but nobody gets a budgeting projection app wanting to edit every single transaction. My Amex card always thinks my account is being hacked whenever PocketGuard pulls transactions. Here comes another annoying notification… Overall I’m underwhelmed and feel like I have no use for this thing aside from the fact that it combines spending across different accounts but I’m thinking about simplifying my life to one or two cards max anyway and at that point this app will definitely be useless to me. At this point I’m hoping they improve and that lifetime members are grandfathered in, worse case I’m out $140 and sticking to my banking app because it does the same thing for free

While I understand it is my job to read the fine print, the app marketed their subscription prices month by month, however charged me for a whole year. Disappointed that an app made to help you budget and manage your subscriptions, marketed their subscription in a not so clear/transparent way.

thank you for making my life easier when it comes to managing finances.. one complaint, in the age of ai, there should not be a single reason to not offer both light and dark mode. Light mode is super helpful for visibility in certain conditions. Please. Learn from Apple’s wallet app!

Once downloading the app there is no way around a paywall. Where they want you to sign up for a free trial of their premium services. I just wanted the free plan. Thanks for nothing.

This app is way more worse than two years ago. A lot of issues including not able to set my default not counting credit card payment, reset all my previous split transactions

Beware!! This app does not show up as having a subscription in the AppStore settings, so the free trial cannot be cancelled!!! This is horrible!

I would give a better review if the app would allow me to access it, instead all I get is “suspicious ip address”

Paid for annual subscription and seemed to be great for a few months. FINALLY, got everything lined up after many hours now my bank is not updating data. This is the second time. I contacted support and they apologized and just said their tech was working on it. After 6 weeks decided to delete the account and start over-lost all my work. Now it happened again. Money and time lost…not good in this economy when I am trying to budget.

I never write reviews but I feel like I should warn people since the company won’t. Unless you are willing to pay for a subscription or check your account every day, they will reset everything. After every 24 hours all your data will be gone with no way to get it back. No warning either. Seems a little ridiculous for an app promoting good money habits to make people addicted to looking at balances.

Finally seems like the connection issues are fixed. Hopefully it stays that way. I much prefer this app over any other I have tried.

Pocket guard is literally heaven sent, haven’t been able to steward my finances well until I got this app. Makes beginner budgeting and expense tracking and goal setting so easy! I download/tested like 5 other of the “best apps” and PocketGuard was clearly the best, easiest set up, clear dashboard, and visually smooth , very good insights even helped us catch fraud on credit card to quickly put a stop to it. The best app ever

This app used to be quite snappy. Somewhere in the last couple of months, likely when the Pace feature was introduced, that all changed. UI interactions are slow, the app freezes for seconds at a time, and there’s been no improvement despite opening tickets with support.

Awesome app, best one I’ve ever used for money management. Question to developers: when you click into Net Income from the dashboard page, you are shown your income vs spending breakdown for each month, which is great. When you select a month, and click into Spending, you are then shown a list of your transactions for that month. Any chance we can get this broken down by budget/category first? Then the level below that can be transactions?

It’s received a lot of very nice improvements over the years. The improvements have added up to make an excellent app.

The fact that this app can’t successfully sync with American Express renders it completely useless for us. I’m disappointed that they don’t disclose this bug ahead of time because it compromises ease of use, which is literally the whole point of the app. I spent more than 30 bucks on a broken product. I wish I could get my money back.

Had high hopes for this app as I like the easy adaption but I was unable to log in on my laptop to my account as it would only clock and I was also unable to get my joint accounts with my husband as primary integrated into the app. Emailed several times for customer service assistance with screenshots but went days without a response and no help. I feel like a simple call would have rectified this but going back and forth by email for weeks isn’t helpful. Will be canceling the app and requesting a refund from Visa due to lack of customer support.

I was a Mint user for years until… well you know the story. ;0). I reviewed almost every alternative and PocketGuard is hands down the best.

Love this app so much. I was a completely novice to this kind of thing. It can take a beat to get familiar with everything but I tried a bunch of apps and this was the most intuitive. Now I can’t imagine life without it

Within a week of opening my account, I received a security alert ping from one of my credit cards due to potential fraudulent activity. Additionally, they use Billshark to offer bill negotiation services, but that 3rd party service is very challenging to cancel. Finally, the app doesn’t offer a great layout for all of your finances if you split bills with other members of household , and makes it difficult to track transfers between accounts. Would not recommend.

I’ve been using pocketguard around 6 months now. While there have been some sync issues on occasion they have always worked themselves out. Recently, I’ve had an issue where I have lost a couple transactions on the same day. Aggravating, but not a show stopper. I do love some of the new features though. Only thing that worries me is that once new features are added, that’s when i see little bugs start showing up. Overall, Pocketguard is a nice tool to monitor your spending with. It would get 5 stars if it weren’t for the little quirks that occasionally arise.

Not sure if it’s a bug? But hopefully this review will pop up to the developers and they can fix it. I can’t get past the start my membership screen because it redirects me to my browser to a blank page that won’t load. Will probably have to go with another app if they don’t fix this soon.

In my humble opinion this is the best free Budgeting App on the Appstore, as I have tried basically all of the other popular free budgeting apps available. I specifically appreciate the bank account sync feature which not only syncs with my bank but also syncs my Checking, Savings, and Credit Accounts (it is a day behind in terms of sync updating but that is not an issue for me). I also appreciate the separate management of bills/utilities/subscriptions, income, transfers between accounts, and other transactions. The transaction sorting and tagging are very easy to use and actually help with tracking transaction and money flow. The Insights page which provides a pie chart of spending based on your chosen budget categories as well as a line chart that tracks spending over the course of the month are extremely useful when comparing spending month-to-month and across categories. The one thing I would suggest as others have mentioned in their reviews is being able to edit budgets/transactions from previous and future months. But with that being said I do very much like having the dashboard, budget, and insight views being geared toward only showing one month’s information, being the month you are currently in. I highly recommend this app.

I got charged $68 at the end of my trial but cancelled my trial the day of getting it due to me not liking the overall app in general. Thankfully my bank flagged and declined it but very scammy app. DONT RECOMMEND

Doesn’t sync up right. Amounts of bills will randomly change. Doesn’t categorize spending accurately. Will have bills show up as other spending. Constantly having to edit income, spending, and budgets. Overall worst app and complete waste of money. Will not buy again

Tried the free trial. Couldn’t see any pending transactions. Checked-my bank DOES share them with PocketGuard. Reached out to PG support and they took a long time to answer. Then they wanted screenshots of my banking app with the missing transactions. They refused to help without it. But kept sending me emails asking how they could help optimize my experience. Cancelled the trial.

I like the app in general, it is not yet at the level of clarity and user friendliness as what Mint used to be. I do love the option of 1 lifetime payment rather than monthly fee.

This app does everything I currently need! Helps me keep track and isn’t a headache to use. Thanks!!

EDIT: PLEASE ADD A NOTES SECTION.. I would like to describe amount of $ for Electrolyte powder but if I hashtag it, it might include the price of protein bars and pickles since it’s all groceries… I would love a way to add a price to the hashtag, or quickly see notes searchable without adding 100’s of extra hashtags.. I LOVE THIS APP! spent about 4 hours a year ago and set up some categories but never fully grasped it and didn’t continue using it. But, as a part of my New Year’s Resolutions… I am taking a photo of every receipt in TurboScan, putting it in a folder named receipts, naming it with the day like 2026.1.15 ‘Store’ ‘$ amount’ … and then 3 days later when transactions finally show up in Pocketguard, I can easily reference my recipt photos and add it to transactions… it gets even better! I am able to read my CostCo receipt and split it into 5+ categories.. I made one for Kitchen, Meat, Equipment, (because Groceries is too vague, shopping is too vague, but I did use Groceries and Clothing as well) THAT WAY, I can quickly switch between the picture of the Receipt and my calculator and add up all my meat, X by .0975 for tax, then add the original amount back! BAM! now I have the exact amount I spent on the Meat category for this transaction.. do this same step with 4 categories and the 5th category is the last amount left so no calculating… Now my Budgets are correctly tracked down to the Pickle, Ziploc, or Storage Bin! A CAUTION AND WORD TO DEVELOPER! I wish there was a ‘ARE YOU SURE’ button after hitting the ‘Change for ALL Transactions’ Maybe there is? I don’t always feel safe Changing the Generic Default ‘Shopping’ category to… well… ‘Nicotine or Gum’ because I have a lot of categories and I would HATE for all my Amazon ‘Shopping’ Purchases to then auto change to the ‘Gum’ category!!! seems like a tiny oversight that could cause almost irreversible damage if we spend years categorizing… one small click without looking could destroy hours worth of tagging. WHICH brings me to the next idea… Is there an UNDO BUTTON? if so I haven’t found it. it would be amazing if we accidentally edited like 350 transactions, and then were easily able to click UNDO. Please let me know if this is possible. Some tips for people, here are my categories. Instead of just Auto and Transport, I added one for GAS. Instead of just Groceries, I added SNACKS, MEAT, GUM, COOKING, KITCHEN. That way spices and oil goes into Cooking, Ziplocs and Appliances goes into Kitchen, Pickles, Mayo, Mustard goes into Groceries, Ribs, Shrimp, Eggs, Tuna, Meatballs goes into Meat (I’m doing Keto/Carnivore, and Carbs like Cookies, Chips, Ice Cream goes into Snacks. That way I can really know how much I’m spending on junk food. BOWLING, VIDEOGAMES, MOVIES, EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, BATHROOM, CASH SAVINGS, ACCESSORIES, RECURRING BILLS, SUBSCRIPTIONS, SUPPLEMENTS, GIFTS, (CASH AND ATM, TRANSFER - so I can easily see how much got added from the budget sections) So doing this basically makes the default Pocketguard app 3X more detailed. It’s a joy to see. I’m going to spend the next 3 months dialing it in and change budgets amounts accordingly. I will try to use the ‘Roll Over’ feature for like… Yearly Subscriptions, and try to save that over time, Because like the Carly app is $100 a year and always catches me off guard!! So! in that case, I also got a leather A6 Money binder that has clear zipper pockets that fit dollar bills… I will cut some vinyl and label them the Budget category name… and try to save as much as I can. Anything I don’t spend, like clothes, in 3 months I’d have $30 bucks saved, I could add that to my Cash Savings… If my Cash Savings gets over $1000, I could then move it to the Investments categories! It’s always harder to spend $ when you have physical cash… you feel more guilty actually letting go of it. SO MY TIPS TO ANYONE! 1. Get the TurboScan app $10 lifetime 2. make a folder for _Receipts 3. everytime you buy something, scan the receipt and name it ‘YYYY.MM.DD - STORE - $$.$$’ 4. Add more detailed categories 5. make a bunch of rules for stores to auto tag and categorize to help future transactions 6. 3 days later, find your Pocketguard transactions, reference your receipts, split the transactions like I explained, categorize and hashtag it, add receipt photo 7. Watch your budgets start to fill up precisely broken down to the itemized receipt 8. Have confidence knowing after a few months, you’ll know exactly what to budget for and how to plan ahead 9. Keep adding to your manually made CASH SAVINGS budget, so you always have an emergency fund 10. After 6 months, start investing everything extra that you didn’t spend!!! BOOM! BAM! THWACK! that’s how you use this app! so in total, I spent 4 hours a year ago, and 8 hours this week setting it up… Now my system works extremely well, and planning every Sunday to spend 30 min - 1 hour categorizing.. so if you feel hopeless, don’t give up! It’s like I ‘Game-ified’ Budgeting with POCKETGUARD!! Just spend about 10-15 hours laying your foundation with Rules for frequent stores to auto add hashtags and categorize, and add more detailed budgets for stuff you spend $ on! -A :)

This is perfect for someone who wants a simple, straightforward spend tracker and budget app. Highly recommend.

Kept saying error.

Tried it and enjoyed it, but kept pushing me to pay despite the fact that many apps similar have a free tier. Tried to log back in and didn’t get in unless I paid money. Be upfront about that dude.

Number registration fails. Why brother creating an app and then put a complicated registration on it? Complicated in the sense it is easy for users but fails also. Glad it failed not doing business with a company like this. Don’t even download this… use excel.

When Mint went EOL, I, like many others, migrated to PocketGuard. I find budgeting very difficult and Mint worked extremely well for me. I read that PocketGuard was the most similar, and they have released updates that made it more similar. UNFORTUNATELY, PocketGuard has several fundamental flaws that make it so irritating to use that I stopped using it entirely and my finances suffered as a result. I’ll start with the good. The good: you can set budgets and roll them over into the next month. This rollover feature was not an offering when I started using it, somehow. You can also now set rules to categorize transactions automatically which was not the case when I started using it; I initially had to recategorize every individual transaction if PocketGuard thought it belonged in a different budget. (This is still the case if the payment issuer name changes but I can’t really fault them for that.) The bad: one of pocketguard’s selling points is its bill tracking feature. Unfortunately, this feature is actually a drawback, as whenever PocketGuard says something is a bill, it breaks it out from your budget entirely and does not let you set a monthly budget for it. This is fine for rent, but it is utterly broken for things like quarterly water bills, when the app says “scheduled for [month]” and does not count a portion of that quarterly or yearly bill towards your monthly budget. Instead, when you hit that month, suddenly you’re completely over budget because your entire quarterly water bill or annual Strava subscription or property tax is counted towards that month alone. Many times I tried to figure out a way to make this feature work for me, but it just does not. It is also a pain for the purpose of tracking things like streaming subscriptions, because even if you set an entertainment budget and categorize Spotify as entertainment, the app then DOUBLE COUNTS that recurring payment as a) a bill and b) part of your set entertainment budget. It also does not automatically deduct recurring payments such as these from your budget so that you can easily see the actual amount you have free to spend. Most of these issues have been immediately fixed for me by moving to Monarch instead. I only wish I had done so before my annual PocketGuard subscription had pinged.

Hey is it possible to have my debit card automatically sync rather than me having to always approve the login on my card when I open the app?

I love this app. I purchased it. I hope they stick around for decades. If I ever have any questions the customer service is very attentive and quick responding.

Been using this app for about 3 months and I already see a difference in how I spend. It makes tracking and categorizing my purchases super easy and gives me an idea of how much I spend and on what each month. Love that it connects directly to my bank and updates every few hours. I also love the debt repayment aspect of the app. It’s keeping me on task with my goals to become debt free with a realistic timeline. I tried out maybe 3-4 other finance apps before coming back to this one. Def recommended.

I like the multiple features and that it usually automatically syncs with my accounts (no manual tracking, except cash), the developers are responsive and quick to fix most issues, and it takes the guess work out of where my money is going. I wish you could preemptively budget in future months without having to add a reoccurring bill.

Approximately a year ago I bought a lifetime membership, and the application was satisfactory until the recent updates. Consequently, I was unable to use the application and asked to purchase Plus membership. Despite submitting multiple tickets, I have yet to receive a response. I am deeply disappointed and regret my decision to purchase the lifetime membership.

App keeps getting better. Once you learn the little nuance’s to the programs it’s super easy. The latest updates make that even easier. But that’s IMO!

I’m finally just fed up with this app, it is so useful when it ACTUALLY WORKS unfortunately just about every time I use it I have to resync my financial accounts particularly after an app update. It takes so long that it ends up just not being worth it, I’m finding something else.

We have been using this for two years. I have come to depend on it to insure I spend what I intended to each month. While I do not use the budget functions I do use it to keep on top of spending totals and to insure I understand every transaction.

I started using PocketGuard at the suggestion of a woman I know who is excellent with money. This app has allowed me to step up and really keep track of what I’m spending and where it’s going. As a result. My finances are much healthier and I feel good about the decisions I’m making. The app has also helped me increase my credit score greatly. Thank you so much for developing this easy to use app to make money management easier for people who would prefer not to budget at all.

I really don’t mind the app for what it is, but the biggest problem is when I signed up I spent a whole day categorizing the previous 2 months to what I need to see it as. And this week I went to look back and all the work I had done is gone and pretty much mis-categorized. I’m not going back to do it again. So I’m left with having to do it everyday for the current month so I can see where I’m at financially. It’ll keep some but others go back to being mid-categorized and it’s frustrating. Hope you guys can fix that so I can go back to looking at month - to - month on how much I’m spending truly against my categories that I had set up.

Do not trust them with billing

Before signing up, I was told I could just manually enter my income and expenses without having to link my bank account. When I first signed up to create a profile, it was trying to force me into linking a bank account with no other option. I thought maybe I messed up somewhere in the signing up process, so I tried to backtrack all the way to the beginning, and it wouldn’t let me. So then I deleted the profile and tried to start again, then it said that my IP address was suspicious, which makes no sense, and it wouldn’t let me create a new profile. So to hell with it!

This software is garbage. It fails to connect either several financial institutions. Therefore, it is worthless.

Great app! Needs ipad version

I liked this for awhile until it got progressively worse - Pending transactions don’t sync so you can’t categorize purchases for 5-7 days (at which time I forget what they are) and all my accounts randomly unsync so I’ll think I have a certain amount of money left for the month but there are purchases that aren’t loaded. I purchased another product that works much better with 7 months left in this subscription but I can’t seem to get anyone to reply about a refund for the unused potion so I’m out $50

there are no free options. you literally can’t continue in the app unless you pay. i should not be paying for an app that is made to help me save money.

Love the app but hoping this gets to the right folks. After latest update today 11/18, any action to recategorize items is giving a 500 error. Also every category is showing 0 spend and progress bar is empty even though transactions are present. Seems like update has fatal flaw(s) and should be rolled back or hot fixed

I love this app. It’s the best budget tracker, but they removed my favorite feature. I used to love seeing my total liabilities across all accounts in the forefront of the dashboard so I could plan how much money to keep in my checking account, but now it takes a bunch of clicks to get there. Aside from that, responsive team, constant improvements, and pretty great interface and automation.

I don’t know what’s happened to PocketGuard but it no longer syncs to USAA. I’ve deleted and reinstalled the account. It sees the total but won’t update any transactions anymore. Cancelling PocketGuard

Can’t unsubscribe

They will send you 20 emails a day, extremely annoying and hard to turn that off

It would be nice if a forgotten bill from the previous month was rolled over in the next rather than just deleted

Good product, better than mint which used to be my goto tracking system. If you ignore a few basic omissions it’s ok, ex. you can filter but you cannot sort transactions by amount, so if you are trying to quickly understand major unexpected expenses you will have to scroll 1000s transactions. Something even 10 year old products like mint has and now monarch lets you sort by amount, date, category vendor etc. Should be basic capability but unfortunate glaringly missing. Switched to Monarch for this reason.

They took $70 out of my account, I reported fraud and thankfully got my money back. This app is ridiculous. Also was very pushy to get me to spend more money.

My accounts will not stay linked to the app for whatever reason and it’s becoming very annoying and tiresome to keep attempting to link them

This app is awesome so far! Would love to see a full calendar view added where you can view all bills for the month (past and upcoming) as well as income & projected income. I think this would be a great addition to the list view!

So my last app that I used for years was YNAB. I took a break from them and I came back this year and they gave me a one month free trial. It’s not that I’m tight on a budget however I have autism spectrum disorder and ADHD. On top of that I’m also a student. So this little one free trial of week was not long enough for me to be able to test out the app properly to see if I wanted the premium edition. SMH. I guess I’ll try out a couple of other apps that were recommended. Also, CapitalOne doesn’t sync up with their app.

Definitely a learning curve to using but support is quick and reliable.

Great app, there have been some kinks but they are constantly improving it. Simple to use and does a nice job syncing with your financial institutions.

I’ve been using this app for months now and loved it, still do but recently like one of the reviews said I noticed the app not running smoothly once I got the yearly subscription. Had it on a week to week subscription, also why the hundred type of subscriptions? Going back to my point I recently logged out of my account because for some reason some charges were showing twice which was a clear mistake. I for some reason couldn’t delete them. I changed the date that it was posted and it wouldn’t move to the edited date I put. When I logged back in it fixed the double charging issue, BUT it converted all my categories back to the old ones! It’s a headache having to deal with it now! Again I really like the app and still want to hang on to it just cause I’m so used to it but I’m currently looking for a better app to use it’s just too much at this point.

I liked this program when I first got it, enough to pay for a subscription. For 3 months, 1 of my institutions hasn’t been able to connect, and now a second one hasn’t connected for almost a month. The support team hasn’t said anything in well over a month, and the updates before that just said to be patient. RUN as far away from this product as you can and definitely don’t give them any money.

I can’t login because of the 403 error

I’ve used this app for more than an year and when I decided to go for the free version , they decide to push customers for an upgrade so they don’t get the free version anymore . Total theft !!!

I have had an open ticket for over 3 months now. The way they handle a situation where a credit card gets lost so you get a new one is horrible. You have to download historical transactions and reimport them. They come in a CSV. It’s a simple CSV. But their system still cannot import it correctly. And no one responds with an update that’s truthful.

If you used to use mint but can’t abide how terrible credit karma is, download this app immediately. It is really good.

About a third of the time I click into the app, I see that there’s a sync problem and my bank account is no longer connected. Steps I take to fix this don’t work; I just have to wait for it to magically fix itself. I’ve been in contact with support twice, and they’ve never gotten back to me. Super frustrating because besides this fundamental flaw, the app is great.

It’s a 7 day free trial. Online says they have a free version with less options.

I downloaded and set up the app. I created budgets and noticed my amount spent was off by my credit card payment. The app recorded my regular monthly credit card payment as income on the credit card side and recorded the expense from by bank account netting it to zero. How stupid do you have to be to design an app like this. Don’t waste your time.

Had a 7 day free trial, had questions, emailed them in the first, third, and fifth day with questions. I had absolutely no answer over than the automated “we received your request” email. Cancelled on the last day. The app itself looked like what I wanted and was looking forward to it based on all the good feedback, but was very disappointed in the customer service experience.

To sign up it requires your phone number but after you input number it won’t continue.

Yet, another app that requires you do all these things before you can—TEST DRIVE. It’s called a DEMO! I don’t mind paying I just don’t want you to waste my time. I don’t see any value in wasting my time. Time in fact—is the whole point of the app, correct? This is another useless app to me.

Pocket guard is the best budget app available I could find. I used every dollar and YNAB which were both ok but had too many drawbacks. Pocket guard combines the best of both allowing me to forecast like every dollar and still budget only the money I have and use goals like YNAB. I like how the app is very guided and has debt payoff features as well. The lifetime subscription was well worth it because I hate recurring subscription costs. I also like how fast the connection to my bank is, transactions take seconds were YNAB took days to update. It’s as simple or as complicated as you want it to be.

How does PocketGuard can include BNPL apps and cash app too in order to summarize all personal finance in one

After reading reviews for budgeting apps I decided to go with PocketGuard and ended up getting the lifetime subscription. However the app has been super buggy for me. It takes me 2+ tries to add one transaction because I keep getting a network error. All categories are not showing for me and then when I try to add the category it says already exists. Even transactions I add to a category (e.g. Savings) end up going into Uncategorized because somehow the categories aren’t showing. Tracking “Sections” is also clunky. Honestly I could not recommend this app to anyone.

I canceled my subscription with the app but it keeps trying to charge me over and over and my bank keeps notifying me. Not the best experience.

There’s no free version which is so disappointing, a little ironic that an app to help you save and track money is just another subscription 🙄🙄

So I decided after researching that I wanted to try this app. Went and created user/password and then it asks me for my phone number to verify. Put in my phone and click - ERROR - but it does send me the text! I just can’t do anything with the number they texted me because I can’t move on after the error message. If it can’t get this right…yikes! Look elsewhere.

Since April, I haven't been able to update one of my accounts in the app. It's in a constant loop. I can't reconnect to the bank, delete it, or do anything else. Support doesn't work and they can't solve the problem.

No way for me to contact help. I’ve used this app for almost 2 years and now I can’t login to the account that has paid for all the bells and whistles. When I tried to make a new one I also couldn’t log in to even get help. Contact me devs. The sign in button is dim and cannot be pressed either logging in or even creating a new account with Apple ID

The app said I was getting a 7 day free trial and then charged me up front and now refuse to refund me. Beware signing up for a trial if you aren’t sure you want to keep the app.

**An update after a few months: Now, I can't even edit my transactions without an error message. This is ridiculous. I wish I could put zero stars** I've been a user for 2-3 years and the app started off great. Over the past year and a half, they keep rolling out updates that consistently make the app function worse and worse. The sync to my bank is no longer working (it now picks up one account but not the other). It will randomly change the labels for my budgets. I'm not sure it's even worth keeping at this point. Save yourself the headache and choose a different app.

The hard part of tracking finances is that there are unexpected things every month for our family. I love how this is flexible and gives you all of your committed money for the month at a glance on one screen.

Liked the app, good setup, easy to use. I could see using it long term if it worked properly. Attempted to use for two months, and transactions that I recategorized CONSTANTLY revert back to previous category. Even after waiting for them to go from pending to posted, transactions would still revert to previous category, even when rules were not instituted. Impossible to use as a budgeting app when some transactions had to be categorized 3 or 4 times. Refund process has been difficult.

I switched to PocketGuard after Mint closed down, and had high hopes for the app. Indeed their basic month-to-month budgeting tools function well, can be automated to a decent extent, and provide useful insights about where you are in the month. The two issues that have caused me to stop using the app are as follows: 1) While their institutional syncing works well on the whole, if you do have an issue it puts all of your past transactions - all the work you did to categorize and name them - in jeopardy. For example, when my credit card number was switched due to fraud, it created a duplicate account and the “old” account lost all of its categorizing and naming data which I had worked on over the months. This happened again with a separate syncing problem. Which leads to my second issue… 2) The retrospective analytics are not very robust to begin with - you cannot “slice and dice” your data to the extent you could with Mint or other services - but that becomes a moot point when your data is often being reset in the first place. For myself, half the point of using an app like this is to have analytics to look back on, discover trends, and answer specific questions (eg how much did I spend on rent back in 2022?). Without great analytics to begin with, and without faith that my data would be preserved over time, the app only becomes useful for month-to-month, in the moment budgeting. Which, as I mentioned above, it does excel at to a fair degree.

As a longtime Mint user, I’ve been disappointed in PocketGuard’s functionality. There’s no ability to track trends, overtime or even pull basic reports with summary data. I personally don’t find the budgeting feature to be very intuitive.

Liked the trial enough to pay for a year. But in the week since entries are disappearing leaving me to have to go through the app and re-enter/sort bills more than once.

The app started to duplicate expenses, and couldn’t predict chunks of my paycheck. This made using the ‘leftover’ feature for seeing where we are at pretty much useless. Not sure why I had so many issues, as it seemed to be well put together, but this app didn’t work well for me.

This is the first budgeting app I have been able to stick with consistently, and it is really helping me to curb unnecessary spending. It’s not perfect - I would love to see previous budgets not just previous spending, but that’s not a dealbreaker. Just have to make sure to check/keep track myself at the end of the month.

This is the easiest financial program I’ve ever used. It’s completely and prompts good habits and alerts inform overspending categories.

Really good user interface and easy to update and reclassify payments. Unfortunately my monthly totals (insights tab and pie chart) keep summing up incorrectly. Currently at least one category that I know of has been dropped entirely (without me hiding it)

Sometimes when I edit my inputs and then refresh I loose all the categories I changed and it’s a pain in the ***. Plssss update that.

Lifetime subscription was offered with a "limited time" discount. At initial glance the app seems to work ok for my use case, but after working with the application it is clear it did not support Fidelity brokerage transactions. There were no notices on their website that they do not support budgeting brokerage transactions. And their support took a week to respond, so how would I even know that this feature is not supported in the first place without them documenting it on their website or responding in a timely manner? I feel this was deceptive that they did this right after my free trial of 7 days in, and made me feel pressured to make a lifetime decision when clearly their app is not ready to meet minimum expectations. A budgeting app should be able to budget transactions. Other apps do it just fine.

I’ve tried working directly with the app to resolve issues but they literally take weeks to respond and the response is a basic, “we’ve seen your issue and we’ll get back to you,” garbage. The app will not even add correctly. The total amount of money budgeted does not reflect accurately inside the app which makes you think you have more money to add to your categories. I think basic addition should be a firm baseline for a budgeting app. Also, when you correct transactions and charge their category the system will revert them the next time you log on. Makes the budgeting software defunct. My recommendation is to look at other options like copilot for your budgeting needs.

The app’s idea is great but fails miserably in execution. the numbers keep rolling back to 2-3 days ago, and then I put in the numbers manually, only for it to be counted double 3 days later when the app decides it wants to re-update the numbers that it rolled back. Then I have to go back and delete it manually. Id rather use an Excel sheet.

Helpful tracker and even more helpful customer service

I switched to PocketGuard after Mint closed, but the experience has been underwhelming. While the monthly fee isn’t high, the lack of insightful features makes it feel like I’m paying for a free version. It only provides basic monthly spending breakdowns with no detailed insights or transaction-level data. It’s disappointing given the premium label.

I use a credit union and Pocketgaurd & their partner Plaid could not connect to my accounts (I kept getting a try again in a few days message) during the 7 day free trial. I had to cancel because I didn’t want to pay & have them never connect to my bank. Too bad it looks like such a great app (reminded me of mint which I loved) from what I was able to play with before discovering their connection issues.

This app is supposed to remind me when payments are due and fails to do so. As a result I’ve incurred several late payment fees. The app is very difficult to comprehend and not worth installing.

I have tried at least 5 other budget apps over the years. I was surprised to see I have been using Pocketguard since 2018. I have never thought of switching since starting with Pocketguard. I really like the fact it is just for daily spending. I see no point in looking at my investments and checking account combined, and watching my net worth jump up and down with deposits and large purchases in checking. It is easy to use and I would say I have average tech skills. In case anyone cares, I'm female. Early on I contacted the developer for help occasionally. He was always fast and solved my problem. I really like how you can create categories, and split a payment into multiple categories. It is always improving, which is great. I do wish it would total the entire year, not just the month. Feature suggestion! I put my data into Excel to do that. And it could be a little better at remembering categories but no big deal. Overall I am extremely grateful for the time saved and peace of mind achieved. Thank you!

Love this app. I have tried others and it’s the only one that I have been able to use consistently without problems. User friendly, love the ability to attach receipts and itemize into categories. I’ve been tracking every expenditure for 15 months, created a realistic budget so I really know how to plan. Love the ability to download the csv file and analyze further. Super happy with the rollover feature recently introduced. Looking forward to more features being added! I just renewed my subscription and plan to continue using. It’s my go-to app now.

I had to create an account on my phone so I could use the apple account connection, otherwise the app would not accept the SMS verification code and just displayed a loading spinner. The same thing occurs on the desktop version whether attempting with a password or using your apple account.

This app has given me so much insight into my spending. The compilation of data and ease of use is exactly what I need. I tell all my friends about it. Thank!!!!You!!!!!

Haven’t been able to connect all my accounts in months. Some have ever worked, and since last last year some that were disconnected and no amount of troubleshooting has been able to fix. Frankly the other features are useless without ability to get everything synced up. There is clearly an error on Pocketguards end (never had a problem this extreme with Mint) and now looking for something better.

Description of app says that PocketGuard doesn’t require premium but then when you download the app, it forces you to sign up for premium. Turns out it looks like they used to have a free version but now force you to sign up for premium. I wouldn’t have bothered leaving a review if it wasn’t for the fact that the description of the app still says you don’t have to sign up for premium. Update your description to be more accurate.

Trial offer says 7 days. Was charged day 1 for the full year. Not didn’t actually get the trial it showed on the banner.

I usually wouldn’t mind this. But they need to send me a code to verify my number. I typed in my number correctly, & I would not receive a code. I tried many times until a message popped up that said if I’m having issues receiving a code, I should contact their support. Why would I do that? I can go use another app. You should let people just continue to use the app without having to verify their number or email. None of that. Anyway, app isn’t working. Won’t send me a code.

I found PocketGuard when Mint changed. I really like the simplicity of Pocketguard and it’s easy to use. It makes it easy to keep track of categories and I like being able to create my own categories. I also like how there is an app and desktop version.

It’s impressive how feature sparse this app is for how much they charge. This app has provided far more frustration than utility. Giving it 2 stars for the benefit of the doubt that all other similar apps are as bad or facing similar issues. Ultimately if you’re looking for value this app is not it.

Since the update I have not been able to mark my bills paid along with a transaction. It has taken me directly to mark the bill as a cash transaction which isn’t what I want it to do. Please fix! Update: I’m asked to contact support for help in this situation so the problem can be resolved yet I’ve been waiting a week or so and still no response from the support team. That’s even with sending two separate emails to support.

My bank has not been able to sync for a week and when I reached out to customer support (twice) and have not heard back. I pay for the premium subscription and am disappointed it is no longer working.

I’m trying out different budgeting apps to try and find one that suits me. PocketGuard wouldn’t even let me sign up to try it. I wrote to support and they said to try signing in with Apple credentials. That didn’t work either. If I can’t even sign into this app to get it to begin to work, how is it going to be once I start trying to use it.

I paid for premium and once my subscription period is over I think I’ll be cancelling this. I was looking for an app that could replace Mint and PocketGuard hasn’t held up for me. Pros: - You can create your own categories of spending budgets - You can rename merchants and transactions and reassign dates - You can keep track of reoccurring bills and whether you were charged Cons: - Biggest complaint and draw back: The app will show you how you’re doing in your own personal budgets you’ve customized DURING the month, but once that month is OVER you can’t see that data anymore. So if I want to know if I continually overspend or underspend in one budget, that info is gone. For previous months, it will show you broader categories in a pie chart and tell you your overall spending, but it won’t tell you how you did compared to what you wished to spend. I want to see a bar graph of my spending in each budget I created month after month and know which ones I’m overspending/underspending on to understand my habits. - Once you’ve grouped your budgets, it’s really unclear if the number at the top is your estimated total spending, or your actual spending for the month - It doesn’t always remember a merchant and a category I assigned it very well - it’s also bad at guessing what a merchant is (grocery, gas station etc.) - It’s difficult to “budget” savings into your monthly “expenses”. The app doesn’t seem to like assigning a positive balance to it. There is a goals function that you can use for savings but it doesn’t show in your monthly pot of money then. - I’ll reconnect the app to my Fidelity account and it works for like a month and then it looses a connection again. I finally stopped reconnecting it to those accounts.

I’d like to see PocketGuard implement MFA (possibly authenticator enablement)

My wife and I tried 4 other free finance apps (the one built into our bank app, Mint, HoneyDue, and I can’t think of the 4th), and this one takes the cake for us. The others were glitchy (HoneyDue), overly complicated and not customizable enough (Mint) or too basic for us (Bank), but PocketGuard offers a very clean and user friendly interface, while also doing all the things that we wanted our finance app to do. It is very customizable, and the notifications are timely and correct.

I have had the app about 6 or 7 months and have really liked it. I’m an accountant and someone who checks my bank accounts every morning and my goal was to pay off my credit card debt. I’ve done that now and this has helped me do it. I always was someone who used to use excel or paper budgets but my issue was I would lose track because I didn’t want to carry my budget with me. I paid for the premium and I have a few different banks, a few incomes, and I love that you can edit the transactions. I noticed at couple months ago some of the bills were glitching a little but they updated it really soon after that and it has gone back to normal which has shown me that although there are sometimes little bugs they are prompt to fix them. I will continue to use this and do recommend it to people who are wanting to get more serious about managing money.

I recommend this app to everyone! They have taken my recommendations and included them in the app for instance adding an ability to roll over budgeted amounts to the next month. Every update gives more utility and usefulness. I love the fact that they have an option to outright buy it rather than continue to pay a monthly or yearly subscription and for that reason I am writing this review!

I assumed there was a free aspect to this but once I got to the end of the steps, I had to choose a plan, paying for it. Either make the app free, or make the app be purchased. Now I have wasted time trying to use an app that I cannot financially afford right now.

Works way more simple than rocket money, ynab, etc. does and I have TWO jobs which means, have you guessed it? TWO sources of regular income. the biggest reason I got rid of the other budgeting apps I tried out was because you couldn’t have more than one scheduled repeatable income source, which means my projected weekly budgets were not correct and I had to mentally remember to add the income from my other job to every budget because inevitably all the budgets would end up projecting negative amounts in them because half of my income was missing. it’s nice that this app lets me have both of my jobs. However there are two issues I have with this app: 1. this app doesn't have a calendar function. I really like when the budgeting apps have a calendar built into the app so you can open it and visually see what your bills are going to be for that week with your projected income to see if you'll have enough money. A basic check list of my upcoming bills is about as useful as me writing out a list of my upcoming bills on paper which obviously didn’t help me much or I wouldn’t have bothered downloading an app. 2. There’s not an option for a light theme. I cannot stand dark themes, I personally find them annoying and difficult to read because I keep my screen brightness down fairly low to avoid eye strain and conserve battery making it irritating to try and navigate around a dim black phone screen.

I was excited to use it at first. And it worked perfectly well. Then it starts having syncing issues, shortly after I’ve already purchased the year subscription. According to support, the app is incompatible with my bank. Something I was not told, even though I hadn’t had any issues prior. I was unable to use the features promised for months. And when I contacted support about the issue and requested a refund. I was told to contact Apple support. After following the instructions of their support agent, I still had no resolution. Contacting support again led me here, as I was told to contact Apple support again, because there isn’t anything they could do. Frankly, the app has many major selling points, it’s why I was willing to invest. However, the way customer support has worked at resolving an issue for a customer who payed for a year subscription and only got a month. As a consumer please beware. And if you bank with Redwood Credit Union, just save your money. Support won’t help you get it back. I’ll update once I’ve heard back from Apple.

The perfect budgeting app for me. Fits all of my needs and is super user friendly. I was using Rocket Money before but it was lacking some features that Pocket Guard fills and more. I love it, actually makes me excited to budget and work towards my financial goals.

If you were looking for somewhere to quickly and simply tell you how much you’ve spent in each category and how much you have left to spend in layout all your finances and an organized manner. This is not the app for you. Everything is hard to find and buried the information that it gives you upfront as you open the app is not the information that you need

Love this app I always seem to leave and come right back because I have found another app that lets me sort out my budget for which bills I’m paying for each paycheck like this does .Would be nice to be able to see more of the credit cards in the account section. Where we can see what’s available to spend and not just the statement balance.

This app has really helped me to organize and track my finances in real time. I love the ease, accessibility, and accuracy of the app. Highly recommend if you are looking for middle of road financial planning and budgeting (not too expensive and has all of the basic features).

I subscribed to PG after Mint shut down and have been happy so far. It has most of what I need from Mint and in some ways is more streamlined. I think the UX can be more polished (mostly little things around clearer verbiage, how many clicks is needed to do things like recategorize a transaction, etc). The team puts out updates at a good pace so I trust things will continue to improve. Wishing the team success.

With two days notice, the switched from having a free version, to suddenly all my financial data being hidden behind a paywall and limited responses to my questions. As a company whose mission is to help individuals gain control over their finances, they really should take the own advice. Be wary of sudden changes that will cost you hundreds of dollars.

I bought the year subscription. It worked for about a week and now none of my accounts are syncing. Makes this totally unusable. And I have to wait 2-3 days to get a response from anyone at PocketGuard. Why do you not have a customer service number???

I was a power user of Mint.com and at first this app was disappointing, but they regularly release updates with gradual improvements. They have sent me surveys and respond to me about what I said in them. I definitely feel they are trying to make this a great product, and I definitely recommend it now.

Transactions appear and then disappear, and I get an error when I try to categorize them. These issues make it impossible for me to continue using the app.

you used to be able to use this app for free but now you’re forced to choose a subscription plan if you already had an account before. The only options other than that is contact support, log out, or delete profile. no where does it say that you data will be deleted along with it. this was a great app without the subscription which is honestly one of the reason i downloaded it. it does help a lot with budgeting but $13 a month isn’t worth it let alone $75 for a whole year when the whole point is for me to save money.

Now that they include roll over budgets it’s exactly what I need

It’s a lot to take in at first but after a month or two of it tracking your expenses and making sure you catagorize things in a way that makes sense to you consistently it will become a very helpful tool to have to keep you on track. I am a buyer of the premium on this app but I waited to write this review until after buying it to make sure I experienced both types of the app. In my personal opinion the premium is worth it.

I want to like this app! I paid the $75 so I plan on using it but it is not user friendly. I’ve had several questions and contacted them but no one ever gets back to you. I’m frustrated. I’m not saying don’t get it.. just be aware it might be hard to figure out.

PocketGuard has acknowledged that an issue with their data provider is causing a sync problem with one of my banks. This started more than a week ago. The impact of this issue is that the bank is locking me out every single day due to failed login attempts. The app does not provide an option to delete banks. After asking support how to delete the back and getting no acknowledgement of the question, I discovered on my own that you can log in to the website through a browser to delete banks. However, the delete option is grayed out on the bank with the sync issue. Tech support just tells me they’re working on it, no ETA, they’ll let me know when they learn something, but does not acknowledge my question any deleting that bank so I stop getting locked out while they work on it. This is completely unacceptable. I generally like the app, but it’s not worth being locked out by banks.

I'm really disappointed that you got rid of the "in my pocket" feature. I stuck with this app, despite its shortcomings and frustrations, due to the in my pocket feature, which as far as I know was unique to this app. Now I have no reason to continue using it and I will look for a new one. No, the "leftover" feature is NOT the same.

The app keeps crashing with ‘Request Failed : Forbidden (403)’ error in a red banner on top. Switched to this app after Mint shutdown, regretting the choice.

I forgot to cancel on the 14th day. I actually was going to continue with using the app but on a month to month basis. Once I realize I forgot to cancel I tried to get a refund. I have been denied on all fronts. I feel scammed now I do not want to even use the app anymore. Do not sign up for the free trial, they will not give your money back.

PocketGuard is very good and easy to use. It could be excellent and will deserve a five star if it can give a bar chart for monthly expenditures and report expenditures for customized period.

The app overall is great and their customer support is quick to respond. I love that it helps get basic budgeting answers done. My biggest problem is the lack of compatibility with other banks. For months, my Marcus accounts refused to sync, and even though Pocketguards customer service was responsive, the issue took literal months to fix. Everything worked fine for another two months, and then my local bank stopped syncing, and the customer service gave me the same response. I appreciate the communication and hard work, but when your banks constantly don’t sync with the app, the app becomes ineffective. Whenever the app finally reconnects to my bank, I’ll have to go back and play catch-up on all my transactions while operating in the dark in the mean time. Now, with this happening twice, I’ll just be paranoid when the next time one of my banks no longer syncs up with PocketGuard. Again, it’s a good app, so maybe I’m just unlucky, but when your app doesn’t sync with the banks, it becomes pointless, especially when you spend a large chunk of money on the app itself.

My IP looks suspicious. On both my laptop and phone. No VPN…

The app shows net worth per month as bar plot, which is terrible and calculation is incorrect. All apps I used or tried before show net worth as line or area chart, which is more appropriate. Also the app freezes most of the time while loading new transactions and I have to close the app and re-open it again. Some of its features like “Plan” are useless because it’s so confusing to use.

I really hope that they can fix the glitching. We just installed this a few days ago, both me and my husband are having issues of needing to close out of app because of loading

This app is so frustrating. It is great for the services that it offers, such as budgeting and tracking spending, but when you go to update transactions it gets stuck loading and I constantly have to exit out of it and half the time it won’t reload when I reopen it. I’m frustrated that I paid for the year subscription and now I have to deal with a very buggy app that makes it impossible to use most of the time.

As a career banker and someone with an MBA, I found this app extremely difficult to use. It double counted many things which was an effect of using both the recurring bills category and budget tracking. This was not apparent at set up and I could not get it to right itself, even making recurring items inactive and asking for assistance from customer service, who also was not helpful. At the end of the month, it showed that I had a negative number left in my pocket, which was incorrect, but then when I added a paycheck as income for that period it went negative thousands more…how can that even occur mathematically and in a user-friendly experience? Do not recommend! Going back to the Dave Ramsey app.

This app rarely opens on my phone and if it does it crashes quickly. I’m not sure if it’s not compatible with the new iPhone update, but I’d really like my money back for my subscription if the app is not going to do anything but take up space.

Worked for a month and I decided to purchase the premium version. A week after I purchased a year subscription one of my banks no longer updated. I contacted support and they explained it was something on their end and they could not provide a timeline as to when it would be fixed. It’s been two months now and it’s still not fixed and it’s too late to request a refund for purchasing the premium version. I would not recommend PocketGuard and if you do go month to month so you don’t run into the same situation I did. Regards. 06SEP2024 I wanted to provide an update to my previous review. After working with PocketGuard support for a little over a month, he resolved all issues that I had. I no longer have any connection issues with my financial provider in PocketGuard has also provided updates to budgeting which I couldn’t find more useful I couldn’t be happier to have stuck with the PocketGuard with the help from their team. I highly recommend PocketGuard to anyone wanting to do spend tracking in budgeting. Thank you to PocketGuard in the support team for all their help!!

I find this app to be the best yet in helping me organize my finances, spending, tracking each purchase, keeping everything in one place, and ability to categorize spending.

I am loving this app and I have tried several. All of my banks and credit cards link up to the app without any errors and the interface is very user-friendly. I was already planning to keep the app because of how easy it makes it for me to analyze my spending, but then I got an email from warning me I only had two days left on my free trial and warning me to cancel before I get charged I don’t love the app. That is proof right there of how confident PocketGuard is that they have a quality app, and they are right! Great app, download it for yourself!

I really like the user interface and tools within the app. The only reason u give it 4 stars not 5 is that, I cannot log on to multiple devices at one time, nor can I share my budget. My spouse and I use this together and it would make things so much easier if we were able to share it that way. When I tried using the “share” option in the app, it just send a link for them to create their own individual budget/profile

This app *could* be great. But they have some real issues with getting it to remain connected with normal, every day banking institutes. I suspect it has something to do with 2 factor authentication on my banking side. Obviously I won’t lower security measures to get an app to work. There’s very little by means of support. I of course was asked if I had the correct password, as if I was stupid. Then I was encouraged to change my banking password via pocket guards “change my password” link again like I’m stupid. There’s nothing wrong with my banking login, I can access it all fine. A few days later I received another email from support telling me it was all a mystery & they’d forward it to the engineers. So it’s anyone’s guess when it’ll start working properly. Is pocket guard great? Nope. Is it good? Meh It’s passable at this point.

I categorized all my transactions and then somehow the next day they were all uncategorized again

I've been using this app for about 6 months. It's fantastic I didn't really need an app to plan my financial future, I just wanted to conveniently see what our family is spending money on across all credit cards and bank accounts. This is exactly what this app does in a clear, concise way. Transactions are automatically assigned categories with good accuracy and you can edit them, create your own, and include or exclude categories in calculations. Actually one of our cards was fraudulently used for 2 airline tickets which I was able to notice immediately and rectify thanks to the app. I also wanted an app without a monthly subscription which most other top rated apps have. I paid for the premium app which is a one time, very reasonable fee. One issue is the app really isn't set up as well to track year to date spending. Easy fix though- I have an excel sheet which includes all the categories I enter in less than 5 minutes once a month. This actually leads to another positive though. The app team is absolutely fantastic about responding to issues and suggestions for improvements. I believe they are about to add a year to date feature and just recently Apple cards are now trackable.

I really like this app, however, getting any assistance from customer support seems almost impossible. After telling it to not use one of our accounts and to ignore it, it continued to use items from that account in our budget and planning. I contacted support for help, and after a week of still not hearing anything I guess I will cancel my subscription and remove the app from my phone and go to another app.

I have paid for the subscription. The interface is very complicated. I cannot filter exact days and see how much I have spent that month. If I can not see what I spent and you cannot categorize it automatically what is the point of the whole app? Do not even consider uploading it

I paid for the lifetime subscription. It has been mixing up my bank accounts they are labeled as they would be at my bank, but if you look closely two of them repeat the same account number. So transactions from my most used account are not showing up. I tried contacting customer support some time ago but have received no response.

I just started using this app and I love it OVERALL. The issue I’m having is that I think some items in my budget are being double counted but I can’t quite tell. The confusion lies in the fact that there is a total for recurring bills, a total for monthly savings, and then a list of budgeted items and how much I’ve spent on those items… However, many of the recurring bills are IN the budgeted categories and there is no TOTAL for budgeted items that are not recurring bills. Pretty sure some of these are being double counted but it’s hard to tell. I wish the app would have a simple total for budget (including savings), a total for income, and a total for actuals right next to each other so I can compare each month and see where I am at throughout the current month. Am I not understanding how this works?

This app has been very disappointing. It’s constantly unable to sync up with your external accounts. It’s often displaying sync errors and asking you to reverify credentials, and then when you do, it’s usually unable to sync and asks you to try up to 5 times a day to provide data for a fix, and this usually goes on several days. Then finally it will sync, so you assume the “bug” has been fixed, but then a week or two later, the same issue with the same account reoccurs and you need to repeat the cycle. Don’t buy this App! I will not be renewing my subscription.

When mint announcement came, I searched for a another viable budget app. Wish I knew this one sooner, would of left mint app long time ago. Paid for lifetime membership & don’t regret it. Ease of use, minimal to no glitches, positive list goes on. Running it on iPhone 14 Pro & IPad Pro

This app was really amazing. I used it all the time but it crashes every once in a while and it’s been weeks I cannot add any new transactions. Unfortunately I will have to delete it today

The app initially worked with my bank PNC. But after a few months stopped. The pocketgard support people had no resolution.

Can’t even get logged in! Can’t receive an email from support. Support is terrible!

I was so sad when Mint went away, but this has replaced it without skipping a beat. I even like a few of the features better.

Would be 5 stars if it didn’t disconnect from the bank every week. You have to reattach to your accounts every week. When I had mint it didn’t do that. And of course you cont reconnect on the weekend. So frustrating.

Couldn’t link some accounts. When I tried to manually enter the accounts it wasn’t doing anything. Found it frustrating to just get it set up. 7 days is not a long enough trial period as it takes time to get everything set up & learn how to use. I might have given it more of a chance if trial period was longer, pref 30 days.

I used and liked the app for a few months. It currently does not sync with my bank because if a change they made so I stopped using it.

1. Please add other periods 1yr and YTD vs just one month 2. Weekly reports doesn’t seem to work 3. Developers engagement much better during the trial period so enjoy the honeymoon phase of the free trial period

I loved Mint. I used it for years but like many I was left wandering the web finding a new financial planning tool after Mint’s questionable business decision. I thought YNAB was too complicated and other planning apps are subscription based. I stumbled on this app after searching for “Affordable Budgeting Tools” I thought I could manage with the free version of the app but I was shocked that they limited the number of accounts that can be linked to 2: one credit card and one bank account. For some this may be manageable but I had student loans and investment accounts I needed to link as well so I sprung for the yearly plan; if it’s good I’ll swap to lifetime. If it doesn’t, I’ll drop it. So far, I’ve gotten a rocky impression. My first 2 links must have been flukes because linking all my other accounts has been nightmarishly slow. This app doesn’t use Plaid which is like the go to service for linking financial services. Instead it uses some other method by Mastercard which fails on the first try. I’d give the app a 1 but the developer was wise enough to include Plaid as a secondary. I’m still linking accounts after a couple days; usually it takes a couple hours to set up my finances on a new platform. Overall I’m not impressed but I’m hoping they can change my mind before the year is up.

Buying the annual membership for this app was the worst mistake of my life. This app has CONSTANT SYNCING ISSUES with banking institutions rendering the app worthless. I noticed my Amex account not syncing since the beginning of March however I decided to be patient to see if devs would fix the issue and they never did. After looking at these reviews it appears other users have had the same problems and the developers have been aware since March only to add insult to injury. The app does not function as advertised and I’ve requested refund. I’ve contacted support for PocketGuard and have received no response. Please don’t waste your time this app and go look at Copilot or YNAB for budgeting.

Out of all the budgets apps I’ve had, I like this one the best. Trust me I’ve downloaded them all, I’m a zero based budgeter so a lot of apps don’t allow for paycheck based budgeting and this is one of them. I like this one because it auto calculates your debt payments to what works for your budget. Things I wish this had: •linking Bills - some bills fluctuate, I wish there was a way to sign in to my electricity acccount and have it auto populate how much I owe so I can see everything In one place. • income budgeting, there’s a place to input your income but since it’s AI I was hoping that it would calculate or let me select which bills, debt, budgeted items, I wanted to pay with that paycheck. For $80 bucks I just wish it did more

I downloaded the app on a recommendation specifically because the prices were a good value, $80 for lifetime access. However it seems that a few months ago the prices doubled for everything. Now $80 for only a year and $150 lifetime. Big difference!!

I’ve been using this app for about 6 months and it’s incredible. The free version has everything you need to track your expenses and categorize your purchases. I highly recommend to anyone wanting to get control of their finances.

Only reason I paid for this app because their roadmap supposed deliver rollover budgets in January, now it’s mid may and we still don’t have feature available. Regretting now for paying for lifetime subscription, should have gone to simplifi.

I wanted to like this budget app and I actually preferred it to some others. However, after my free trial ended, 2 out of my 3 accounts stopped syncing. Not only that, but I went to re-sync it, something in their software triggers a security notice at the bank and the bank locked me out of my account. Ironically, the best tool you have is to NOT purchase this app. I have requested a refund because this app is actually unusable for me at this point.

Ok, I admit that I’ve only spent about 2 hours with the app trying to get things set up and understand how things work. What has become obvious from the start is that there appears to be no tutorials available whatsoever on how to effectively implement this tool. PocketGuards YouTube channel shows one promotional video. How are people finding the help they need to get set up?

As a premium user of PocketGuard, I've found it to be an invaluable tool for managing my finances. It offers excellent oversight of my accounts, helping me stay on top of my spending and savings goals effortlessly. However, there's one persistent issue that has been bothering me for quite some time now: the inability to connect and display balances from my Robinhood investment account. No matter how many times I try to refresh it, the integration simply doesn't work. This problem has persisted since I became a premium user and hasn't been resolved despite my efforts. Overall, PocketGuard is a fantastic app for financial management, but the ongoing issue with Robinhood integration detracts from its otherwise stellar performance. I hope the developers address this issue soon to provide a seamless experience for all users.

You can only add two categorized budgets for free and to me, that defeats the purpose. It doesn’t even tell you that until after you’ve completed the first three or four steps, where it seems like everything will be good and fair. Been trying to find an app to replace Mint but so far, none are nearly as good (for free).

I love that it is customizable for categories, and whether or not a transaction should be counted. The budget is simple and easy to see where the money goes, and where you can make adjustments. The updates from bank accounts with merchant info and the ability to split the receipt into multiple categories. Just a well thought out and user friendly app. Only suggestion is to make it available to adjust a future budget, i.e. the coming month. That would make it easier to plan for certain expenses. Still love it! Helped me budget for a big purchase without as much stress, and it is helping me save for future vacations and extra house payments (4/28/24)

Their sync tool makes it to where some banks, like PNC, won’t actually sync and cards like AMEX need to be re-synced every time you log in (which takes 5 minutes). Their customer service team blames it on AMEX but Mint, Credit Karma, Intuit, and several others don’t have this issue. They’ll refuse refund even just a week later.

They trick you into selecting a “trial” instead of making it obvious that you can start a free account. I cancelled my account to try and start again and now it’s not allowing me to open an account. What a waste of time

I switched to PocketGuard like a lot of people when mint was integrated with credit karma and they didn’t offer budgeting anymore which was my primary use for it. PocketGuard works really well and is user friendly. I wish there was an option for quarterly, bi-monthly, or annual budgets. I have a few and it can be frustrating to get an accurate depiction of my finances and monthly spending. Hopefully that’s something that is in development.

The latest update has made the app buggy and slow. My categorizations keep getting reset!

I don’t get all of the good reviews, this app is one of the worst. The UI is from the 90s, all features require a subscription, and those features aren’t actually that good. Lastly, they way they connect your data means that Plaid is taking your information and selling it. See the $58 million settlement for Plaid. I’ve requested a refund, through Apple and their customer service.

Disappointed that it doesn’t synch with Apple Pay like Monarch does. Would consider switching back if it did. Synchs with all the other bank accounts and loans nicely.

I’ve been pleased with the user interface as a recovering Mint user trying to move on. I can’t give PocketGuard 5 stars though because it’s missing some obvious features. They seem like possible easy fixes so maybe there’s hope! Pros: Mint Import, split transactions, manual cash transactions, nice monthly trends, Web access, Wise account connects (using Plaid link). One time purchase (find in iOS for $80), shared user for Budgeting. Cons: auto categorization is poor - most of my transactions have to be manually changed (supposedly it will learn tho as I creat rules. The worst part is that there are NO SuBCATEGORIES?! The graphs are nice, but you’ll need a lot of custom categories or just general overview with no subcategories, seems like an odd miss for a tracking app. Also no multi Currency (unlike Wallet and Spendee), rollover budgeting still in roadmap, no iPad oriented App (unlike Buddy and Wallet). Accounts are sometime not updated - it seems like it does not have manual refresh for all accounts?

All the budgeting plan charge you monthly. This is not a free app. Don’t even bother downloading.

My biggest problem with Pocket guard is that when I go to check my accounts, I can’t view them all on one page, I have to scroll down to see them all so I end up writing them down on paper which kinda negates the advantage of having them listed on an app. Secondly, I can’t check my latest transactions in each account. The transactions are listed but it is not easy to see which account they were made from or what category they might belong to. Thirdly, I find it would be more helpful to have my accounts listed in ranked order from greatest to least. Fourth, the option to log out should be on the main screen, or at least at the top of the drop down menu. I miss Mint.

Literally spend FOREVER, sent three emails and deleted several points of detailed data in order to cancel this free trial before I was charged and YOU CANT! It’s a scam. Period. They claimed I needed to delete the subscription from apple (purchase on the App Store) but the only thing purchased through app was the FREE trial. They charged the subscription on my card. Nothing listed as even possible to refund because nothing was purchased through apple. Deleted EVERYTHING from the app, followed all the cancelation instructions and email THREE TIMES to insure I was all set. Silence. Listen, this is a scam.

This app promised several updates that kept getting pushed back. I was very patient in waiting for them to provide the updates they promised. However, when I finally reached out after months of waiting, I was told they still were unsure of the expected updates. I asked for a refund and they were unable to process it. I was told to go through Apple. However, Apple said that I waited too long and they were no longer able to refund me for the subscription. Long story short: don’t believe PocketGuard when they say they are going to make updates. And don’t wait too long for them to make these updates before you request a refund!

3 weeks ago, perfectly valid TD Bank login credentials started failing in this app. It’s useless.

Making you pay for another subscription after paying $75 for one year is insane.

I have an American Express card and recently it’s started to disconnect from pocket guard and is the biggest hassle to log back into. I also noticed that at least once a week my transactions are moved out of the “Budgets” I assigned them to previously, so I have to go back and do it again. It’s a good concept of an app but there are many bugs that make it frustrating. I’d also like the ability to see from month to month where I’m at versus just one single month… rename certain transactions differently.. several things like that that just don’t have the customization.

I’ve always been a Mint user but found PocketGuard and haven’t skipped a beat! Really like the functionality of this app with the best support team!

Purchased the full version, worked for a month until it had sync issues with credit cards (Mastercard and Amex). They rolled out Plaid to try and fix the integration, however this has not worked. In discussions with support they have responded We hate to tell you this, but American Express credit card doesn’t allow our data provider to build a sustainable integration with PocketGuard, which resulted in the issue you face. Resolution turnaround is unknown.

I don’t know what verification service they use but it didn’t work with my bank couldn’t use the app unfortunately, maybe if I change banks in the future i’ll try again

There are simpler ways to do about things that I had expected. Sort of give more options to the users who wants it. For one, there is no easy way to access any categories that I made without getting deep into each layer. I like to just categorize into whatever category I made but thats so so hard to access. Second, for each category, there is no ‘money in’ tabs and ‘money out’. So i dont know how much I received money on a particular category or so since there is no distinction. Third, I like to see my spending details by month. I selected January then I saw my self made category and clicked it and I was presented with all the items that are in that particular category up till this day. Fourth, if I don’t include a certain spending in any category, it will automatically put it into its own generated category (which is fine by me) but it is not shown in the ‘overview’ tabs which is very frustrating. I was giving this a try but now Im just contemplating into going back to just an excel sheet. I used Wallet by BudgetBakers before and I liked it except the fact that it can’t import csv pretty well w/o its own issues and some minor bugs. I just want more choices to those who wants better control of their finances instead of expecting the app to do it for them. Everyone is different.

If you have read online as I have reviews in Jan 2024 that there is a free version, there isn’t. Apparently they saw all the prior Mint users (like myself) looking for a new budget app and decided to drive greater profit off it. If I am gonna pay, there are better options out there based on my research like Simplifi.

The app stopped syncing with my bank more than two weeks ago. I contacted support and never received a reply. Completely unacceptable for a subscription based service.

The only suggestion I’d have for improvement is to be able to categorize or add notes for multiple transactions at a time. Really like the app otherwise.

Switched over from Mint. Chose this app because lower cost then competitors and said they would create rollover budget in January 2024. However they did not create it and said to create a cash transaction. I will not pay and keep this app if there is no rollover monthly budget. Everything else seems it’s okay

I came across PocketGuard when looking for a replacement budgeting app after finding out Mint was being shuttered. I had been using Mint for over 7 years and had got used to it. Although I was skeptical that I could get used to a brand new budgeting app I quickly found PG to not just be as good as Mint, but better in almost every way! I like that they offer a one-time lifetime purchase as I despise monthly subscriptions. The best feature in PG is the recurring income and bills. With Mint I often had problems remembering those quarterly or yearly bills and they’d throw off my whole budget. With PG I never have to worry about forgetting them because they’re always scheduled. It’s also helpful to be able to see next month’s estimated bills and income. Highly recommend PocketGuard to any fellow budgeters!

App no longer updates accounts, tried refreshing, resetting, the web version fails to login. No access and seemingly no support. Having just purchased a yearly subscription, I’m regretting now going month to month so I could cancel. If the service doesn’t have dependable uptime (web or app) why would I pay for it or use it. Very displeased.

Looking for something to use instead of mint and found PocketGuard. The UI is gorgeous and colorful but what’s the point when it doesn’t work to connect a single bank? Also there’s not a single free option

EDIT Updated Review (updated to 4 stars): My issue below has since been resolved. I was reached out to by support on February 5th, through the review that I left, not by my original support requests. Once I provided my account information they were able to find my support requests and they were able to send a refund to my credit card. I then purchased the lifetime option for PocketGuard plus and have not had any issues so far. I give this app 4 stars because it works as advertised. The loss in a star is for my issues with contacting customer support and the inability to cancel a subscription online, which almost every subscription service allows you to do this day and age. I opted to purchase the lifetime option so that last point should no longer matter in my use case. This current customer service issue is probably because of the current influx from Mint shutting down, so hopefully it will be a non issue going forward. Original Review (1 star): The app itself works to my liking. However they have charged my credit card for the annual cost, which I never signed up for and support has been impossible to reach in my multiple inquiries. I signed up for the free trial/monthly subscription. Before the end of the free trial I logged in and followed all of the instructions on the website on how to cancel the subscription. My intention was to then purchase the lifetime option. I sent multiple messages through the website portal, and to the direct email. The only thing I have received is an automated response saying they will get back to me. Meanwhile, my credit card has now been charged for the annual cost of the app which I never agreed to pay (I signed up for the monthly subscription). I again sent another email to support about the issue and I have still not received a response. At the time of this review my first message to support was sent on January 25th through the message tab on the website and my last email to them was on January 28th. I will be more than happy to update my review if this gets resolved.

I just signed up and found out that the price has doubled in the last few weeks and the non yearly full purchase is no longer available. After contacting customer service at least five times with no response, I dropped this app like a hot potato. I can’t believe they charge anything with the poor service and random high pricing. I decided on Monarch and they seem great. Good luck if you choose this app and before you sign up contact customer service and see how long they take to get back to you.

For the price PocketGuard is a great way to easily track your spending into either preset categories or new categories that you can make as needed. As long as you stay on top of marking transactions you can easily see how much you are spending in various areas and make adjustments as needed.

The app itself works great. It’s the customer service that is lacking. I have been emailing nonstop for a week with no reply whatsoever. I got signed up for the one year I think. I was charged in the bank, but there is nowhere I can find to see the actual subscription I have been charged for or how to control it. There’s nowhere in the app that says this is the subscription you have this is when your renewal date is or anything.

I as addicted to Mint and leveraged it to help tackle debt and control spending. As a single mom with a house and two kids, my finances have to be right. This tool is phenomenal and the product team is very approachable and friendly. In My Pocket is an awesome feature. Only suggestions for me after a couple months of near daily use: ensure the tab icons can be tapped to autoscroll back up - by nature some tabs have long scrolls so a quick jump up is helpful. On the donut chart and line chart for current spending it would also be helpful to show the diff dollar amount against 1 month ago spending, not just the full total from last month end against today. Really well done folks.

I’ve been using YNAB but need to find a different tool that’s more focused on just tracking spending. Pocketguard is not the one. It does not allow you to create broad categories and automatically assumes all inflow is recurring. Navigation is confusing. I would move on to a different software.

App looks good, unfortunately it does not support multiple currencies and becomes crazy when a transaction is downloaded in another currency, showing the amount in dollars (eg. a transaction of MX$1600 is shown as US$1600, which is almost 20x more).

They will charge you and you have no recourse. Their support email addresses are literally fake and undeliverable. When we tried to cancel our subscription there is literally nobody to talk to or email or get a hold of. Along with that the app doesn’t even function properly or have a computer interface.

It’s a great looking UI, and seems like great features. The problem is it just won’t register one of my regular paychecks I get monthly from the link with my bank. It gets one but not the second check. Because it looks like I’m over budget since it can’t see my full income it won’t let me make a budget or any goals. I’ve submitted questions through the help messaging and emailed and no one responds. I’ve had it for a couple months now hoping it would catch up but no such luck. So I’m not going to pay for anymore months on an app I can’t use. Good luck to others!

Writing this review in hopes I receive a response from the developer. The app is double posting my transactions. I try to delete but in able, try to hide one and both go hidden and then shows my bill not paid. Looking for assistance from the developer.

I used to love this app. Tracking was amazing but over the last few mo thank keep getting issues with updating or it deleting my info. I tried to connect my bank I don’t keep getting error messages then it tells me I got to wait 24 hours to check again. Or Info not updating at all. I’m over it I will spend my money else where. PS. I ran out of daily available attempts because your system wouldn’t allow me. When I tried it would say oops try again and when I didn’t said I ran out. I find it funny that some one could respond to the review but no one has ever emailed me back about the issue I contacted you guys about. No worries, I have already cancelled my subscription and found another app.

The user interface for this is just okay. I was able to successfully connect accounts. Unfortunately it looks like they decided to cash in when Mint went down and there is no longer an option for a lifetime subscription. I don’t need yet another subscription in my life. I’m out.

Repeated errors when connecting account. Removed the app and reinstalled. Same issue. Then was blocked for “too many attempts” and told to wait 24 hours. No thanks!

Can I just start off by saying I downloaded and tried using so many budgeting apps. I did lots of research to find the best rated apps and tried them all. I found this app and I will never look back! I needed a budgeting app that would track my spending, track my savings goals, and clearly show me where I was going over. This app does it all. I also do a lot of transferring money from one account to another, I’ve had trouble tracking this on other apps. PocketGuard let’s you easily hide transfers so they don’t confuse your budget. Same goes for credit card payments or other random charges I don’t want counted towards my spending or savings goals. The app also gives you a breakdown of your month with pie charts and statistics. It also lays out all the information I need in a clear way that makes it easy to understand. My husband and I both love this app and plan on using it for many years to come.

I will update the rating once syncing with regions mortgage actually works. It’s highly annoying to always have a “sync error” with no way to fix it. And why does it label ALL of my debit expenses as food?

Better than mint in my opinion. This app fits my needs perfectly. Keeps my budget in check, and helps with future planning.

I've been trying to keep better track of my finances and better prepare for bills and the like, but I've found it difficult to keep track of what happens when and make sure I don't miss any little charges. this app is exactly what I needed and has been a huge help!

So helpful to track multiple accounts at once, and visualize budgets.

This app isn’t free, when I went to sign up I had to choose a plan and both of them cost money, they were not free! In the description of the app it says it’s a free budget app.

I’m currently trialing a few finance/budgeting apps, and so far Pocket Guard is pretty good. It’s features and functions are easy and allows for a satisfying amount of customization (though I could use even more). Where it is falling very short for me is the inability to link my AmEx High Yield Savings Accounts. The bulk of my cash are in these accounts making it tough to reap the full benefit of the app. Other apps seem to have this same issue, which is odd given I had no issue linking my AmEx credit card. If I didn’t bank with AmEx, PG would be would be a no brainer for me to continue on with.

I regret paying for this. Too many financial institutions are not supported. The limit on the number of accounts you can add at one time (even with the paid version) makes the setup take several days. The lack of a credit score tracker is noticeably absent. Also, the interface could be a lot better. Overall, PocketGuard is not terrible, but you’re paying for a service that Credit Karma and Empower do for free. If you’re looking for a single app for all your financial data this just isn’t it.

I downloaded the app hoping to just pay a one time fee with no subscription. As it is advertised in their app page. Web search’s turn up that they’re doing A/B price testing and playing around with subscriptions and pricing models. I’m good off that. I’ll be going back to the old ways of tracking my budget until I can find a simple one time fee that doesn’t require subscription and milk my budget for more money. The irony in the sales tactic is thick. Now I’m just disappointed that I gave all my financial information to some organization that doesn’t have my best interests to begin with.

App forces you to provide a phone number to get a confirmation code. I went ahead and did that, even though I prefer not handing out my number. Never received the text with the code, so couldn’t proceed. Tried resend button, but nothing. Then killed the app and started over with same result…

I’ve tried all the budgeting apps and felt that each one was missing a key feature that others had, but none had everything. I was just about to compromise and settle for one, but luckily I tried PocketGuard! If you took only the good features from all of the different budgeting apps and packaged them together perfectly, then you’d have PocketGuard! It has really helped me to see my spending habits, especially as a recovering “swipe now, worry later” kind of spender. Never trying anything else again and their prices are also much more affordable than other apps! One feature I’d love to see though is the option for credit card payment due amounts being included as a bill. That way I can budget for money leftover after bills + cc payments needed. I know this isn’t useful for those that don’t carry balances, but for those of us that do, this would make budgeting so much more accurate. Say you pull the minimum payment amount from each statement as they’re issued (since the amount can vary month to month) and it would show up as an Upcoming Bill and also deducted from In My Pocket. I’d also like to see the ability to mark smaller payments throughout the month as amounts towards the minimum payment amount so it shows the remaining. Thanks and excited to see future updates!

This app is by far one of the best. Love the goals and debit payoff. No other budget app has it. A few things tend to throw everything off tho. 1. Not being about to mark as and “early pay” for the next month. A lot of times my pay post early in my bank, so most of the time toward the end of the month. It post the income in the wrong month that it should be in. 2. Rollover option should be available especially when trying to save up for goals and budget caps. 3. A better 3rd party partner for small banks/connecting accounts. Most of my transactions come from a smaller bank doing everything manually kind of takes out the purpose of the app. These are the only things me from keeping my subscription. I’ll always check back and keep an eye on this app, though just to see if they have any good updates.

Several days before the free trial ended, I sent 3 emails to cancel my subscription and yet got charged for the life time subscription. They are so hard to reach and have terrible customer support and make it very difficult to cancel once you give them your credit card information.

Former Mint user here. Thought I would give PocketGuard a try and avoid monthly/yearly payments. Unfortunately, if you have a Fidelity Cash management account, your transactions do not counts towards any budget/spending analytics. So the app is almost useless to me and I spent $100 on a lifetime subscription. Worst part is, I’ve reached out to PocketGuard support several times and haven’t heard anything back for over a week. I’m incredibly disappointed, and wish I had known what I know now. If they could fix this issue and/or actually respond to me, I would not have such bad things to say.

I like this app but the “in my pocket” feature hasn’t worked for me. I’ve contacted support twice because my income is recognized in my transactions but not in my “in my pocket” estimate so it always says i’m like thousands of dollars in the negative. I have received no response from app support after contacting twice so I’m a little frustrated that I paid $80 for an app and the main feature is fully unusable.

So, I bought this and when I discovered some issues I tried to cancel. It’s been 2 days of pressing the cancel subscription button in their app and nothing. Feels scammish. Finally found the support email. We’ll see.

i’ve had this app for a bit and i can honestly say it’s perfect. the budgeting graphs are accurate, the bank accounts sync almost instantly, the tags system is quite handy; it’s overall a great app!! if you have the means, i would recommend the premium subscription!

I’m glad pocketguard has the best U.S bank connectivity out of all the budgeting apps I’ve used. I also love how the UI/UX is modern and minimalist. Problem is that I can’t access Pocketguard while traveling for business in Asia. And thing is I travel a lot. The only way to use Pocketguard is to turn on a VPN and then manually refresh my bank accounts to get the latest data which is a big inconvenience and that’s what stops me from paying extra. Other budgeting apps don’t have this problem

I made the switch from Mint with it coming to an end and I appreciate there not being ads and being a little more user friendly. I wish there was an iPad version of this app. Reoccurring bills only being able to be tracked under bills or have them tracked individually in a budget line is inconvenient in my opinion.

I came over from Rocket Money because many of my accounts were not able to connect to Rocket Money. The good news is that all of my accounts connect to Pocket Guard. The not so good news is how Pocket Guard shows monthly budgets. I’m currently renovating my house and I’ve been transferring and spending savings. Pocket Guard doesn’t have the level of automation that Rocket Money does and so it is treating transfers and withdrawals as expenses effectively double counting. Rocket Money does this for you, which is a time saver. I hope pocket guard enhances expense categorization. I paid for a lifetime membership and I’m starting to regret it.

I love the app and it has all the features I was looking for in a budgeting app after switching from Mint. Only thing that would make it perfect is a bit more variety and content in the home page widgets. There is only one option which is not the best one for seeing all the information from my home screen as there are no numbers.

This app has an In Your Pocket feature that is EXACTLY what I want from a budgeting app. You put in your income and expenses (with plenty of options to reflect the different types of both), and then you get to see what’s left “in your pocket.” If you want to know how much money you have to spend on ancillary purchases, that’s what this tells you. It’s the perfect thing to help you determine if a current purchase—for which an entire budget category doesn’t make sense—is reasonable or not. I highly recommend this app!

Forced me to add payment info even though there is a free version and then gave me no option to cancel my premium subscription.

I’ve tried Good budget, Every Dollar, Mint, YNAB… made my own spreadsheets… this is the best app I’ve found. It’s intuitive and makes the most sense. It isn’t dogmatic - several budgeting apps are very opinionated on how you should budget- this app lets you budget in a way that makes sense for you. Recommend.

Amex has serious issues connecting for multiple days. I loved the app but I can’t connect my primary payment source it’s worthless. I even paid for the lifetime subscription. Very disappointed.

I really want to like this app. In fact, I would sign up for the lifetime membership except for one issue where only a subset of my accounts in one bank show up. I asked support for help and they will not get on the phone with me. Rather, they want me to email them bank account information. This is insane - if they are ok with sensitive information being shared by email, what else are they doing with my account information? My bank literally warns me every month that I should never share by email the information that support is asking.

Support is non existent, you pay 35 bucks a year to get crap support. Bank accounts don’t sync or have syncing problems. Just keep saying institutions under maintenance for weeks. What do we pay money for?

I purchased the annual subscription and then my accounts won’t sync anymore. Tried manually refreshing, deleting, and reinstalling and now my accounts haven’t synced in 3 days. Was good until that point. Please fix.

I have been having intermittent sync issues with my accounts for months, and now my primary checking/savings accounts have not connected to the app at all for 6 weeks. I contacted support and was not given any information beyond basically ‘this is a known issue and we’re working on it.’ After several weeks with no updates, I reached out again and got essentially the same statement. This app is useless without the functionality of automatically tracking transactions. I was finding the app really useful before the constant syncing issues, but I’m highly disappointed by the lack of urgency and communication in getting my account back in working order.

Absolutely love this app. I am wondering if one day we are able to have main categories and sub categories for tracking expenses. Would that be possible?

I would be ashamed to have been the company who developed this. I feel extremely badly for the people who were trying to wrangle their dev team to produce something of quality. Most usability elements were completely tossed out of the window. Use Emma or Co-Pilot. Emma has separate spaces for business owners and Co-Pilot has great widgets. They really demolish this product.

After I downloaded this app, my boss got a scam email claiming to be me saying I had “changed my bank information”

Longtime Mint user here, given the circumstances of Mint shutting down I’ve been on the hunt for a new budgeting app that allows me to gain insights into my money. Here are top things I did not like about this app. 1. My account aren’t organized. I’d like to be able to see a collapsed view of my checking and savings amount but also be able to see them broken out. On the accounts view tab I would see a credit card then a savings account then a checking account from another bank- just no organization. 2. There were a few credit cards I was not able to link. Using the premium version to limit all of my credit cards is critical for me as it allows me to gain a complete view of my finances- especially with subscriptions on certain cards. 3. Cancelling the subscription is NOT the easiest. I was still within the 7 day trial period to cancel but I still have wasn’t sure if I wasn’t going to be changed since I signed up on the web

I selected “sign in with apple” when I signed up, then later tried to log in on my Mac, in the Safari browser (everything up to date). It loads forever. Not impressed.

Setting up my AmEx was a nightmare and took almost a dozen times (finally, at some random point, switching to Plaid which worked perfectly). But they have stupid limits on adding accounts so now I’m locked out for 24 hours until I can test more bank account connections to see if they work. I’m willing to pay if it connects to everything and works well, but with my testing being limited by an artificially set restriction, I moved on to another app (and paying them instead).

Why is there no iPad app? It's almost 2024, this kind of disregard is unacceptable and ridiculous.

Been using this daily for the past few months. It’s changed the way that I think about and handle my money. Support has been super helpful, updates are frequent, and the app has an incredible feature set.

Just tried it and paid for a month. Within the same day I realized that it wasn't for me and I'm out $8. See below why. If you have 9+ institutional accounts then it's a pain. Only 9 will update in a 24hr window. I had added two accounts, deleted got premium, and re-added, and this resulted in 2 getting double counted. Treasury Direct also had trouble connecting, I tried twice to connect, and this too resulted in it counting twice. Because 3 accounts were counting as 6, it made it a pain to add more accounts. Things got worse when. AMEX was trying to refresh more than once I'm a 24 hour window. AMEX would said error refreshing, and then I tried to fix the connection, Pocket Guard would say everything was OK. I wish I had known about the 9 institution limit before paying for the monthly subscription. Felt like a bait and switch. This was a deal breaker for me.

Plan page needs to have descriptions get a full line to themselves and the money should be below as a fraction of spent/budgeted: $122/$400. Also, the plan section lets you create a goal or budget at a section with Edit section, but then the new item appears at the bottom instead of in the section. There should be a way to shut off get out of debt for once you are out of debt or for those who do not want help. Great summaries and charts… but no way to dig into the data… clicking a chart portion should have a place where you can review transactions. It isn’t easy to see what account a transaction is coming from. Besides goals, there should be funds that float cash from previous months and have no date associated with them. The app is great about estimating the cost of something that changes over time, but if this month it’s $26 and next month it’s $30 I have to change my budget since it isn’t a fund (EveryDollar offers funds). Also it doesn’t support Landscape mode in a usable way.

While I’ve tried all other budget apps, this is by far the best out there. Very clean at reconciling and learning from past behaviors. I love that no matter what Harris Teeter grocery store I go to, it appears as Harris Teeter, not Harris Teeter store !785!, or whatever. The In My Pocket, which I wish they called, Left to Spend takes some time to learn, but it’s great once you do. Only ask is try update the UI. While I’m not a fan of Mint, it looks much more current like my bank app. If you could update the fonts, get rid of the grey and use white with dark screen at night, that would be great! Otherwise keep up the other updates. Five stars!

After problems syncing I got a quick response from the developer and it’s working great. Went from a 1 star review to a 5.

I signed up for the plus membership so you have to pay the 9.99/month. After the first month they reset all the in-app features to basic subscription. Despite continuing to pay for the plus membership I was promted in the app to subscribe to the plus membership when I opened the app. I was also not given access to the premium features and a message would pop up saying I needed the plus membership to use those features. Definitely will NOT be recommending this app. It’s a scam.

I am not overly disappointed but disappointed all the same. This app offers all the same features my bank does. Only able to see reoccurring payments or transactions. And only able to use that data for bills. There isn’t a way to add other bills that are not automatically paid monthly. This will not work for my budget planning needs. I do like how safe the app is with my data.

Great overall app. Coming from Samsung to the iPhone this app is a little annoying at times. Every time I go to the transactions list, it shows the animation for swiping and I have to wait for that before interacting. Then if I open one to change the category and save it, I’m back at the transactions screen and have to wait on the animation again. This didn’t happen on the android version and I could move much faster through the transactions.

This is an awesome app for keeping track of your finances! It’s very intuitive, and I love the zero-based budgeting approach. I also love that they offer a lifetime one-time purchase option for the premium version. This app has made managing my personal budget so much easier. I recommend this to anyone who is wanting to get a better grip on their monthly spending.

The only reason why Mint, YNAB, and the other budgeting apps with tens of thousands of reviews are rated so high is because those users have never tried this app. PocketGuard blows those apps out of the water with the ease of use and features. The only thing missing is support for Apple Card but most apps don’t have that yet so no big deal.

Absolutely love this app so far. There are a couple tweaks I would like to see, and the mobile navigation could have clearer paths to get to all the features, without having to just hunt all over, but overall it’s really great! I prefer using it on my desktop as I am more old school but the iPhone app works well when I am on the go.

Have to constantly sync amex multiple times daily. Don’t bother.

We are new to PocketGuard and while we are still learning we are astounded by it’s ease and love seeing everything in one place. Vlad at the help desk has been quick in response. We are on our way to staying within our budget since we can look quickly at all of our spending categories and see what we've spent so far each month!

I paid $34.99 for the year subscription after the 30 trial it went back to basic stay away Update Apple tried to get my money back and the developer refuse to give it back.

Hi there, I’d canceled my pocket guard subscription and I’d prefer being taken off of the week trial fee as well.

I’ve Ben trying to set up my budget for the past hour. It’s literally impossible. Despite having plenty of money in my accounts this stupid app thinks I’m -2,000 in my accounts. Why does it think I will buy $1,000 worth of plane tickets every month just because i recently bought a plane ticket??? Why did it assume that cash i till out of an atn is a ‘recurring bill’?? The first time user experience is absolutely horrible. I was really exciting about automating my budgeting that I’ve been doing manually with another app; but this is impossible to set up! This app needs a consultant to help the developers make it more ‘idiot proof’ because I’m so frustrated I’m about to give up and just delete it after less than an hour.

Been using for about 1 year. I love the app. Took me a while to square my spending away, but this is a great app to help keep track. Customer service is extremely helpful and very responsive. Highly recommend.

The ease of use and simplicity are impeccable. The app has great promise, but there are a few things that are not helpful: Account management- cannot clearly tell if you’re in the trial period or if you actually have the premium service. If you have the premium tier you can’t tell if you’re monthly or annual. Bill name- cannot update the merchant name. I had to delete the bill and re- add it because I had a misspelled word. Budget planning- my monthly paycheck comes at the end of the month and I use it to plan the next month. I can’t tell if the app recognizes that. It looks like it wants to count my March paycheck for March bills but the month is over. Thank you.

I have used every budgeting and spending app offered since 2003. By far, this is the most straightforward and user friendly app I’ve used. I hope it never goes away, I’ve paid for the premium version to get the absolute most out of the app. My 81 year old mother now uses the app, she also loves it. I reference the app multiple times a day, I can easily reference what bills are still outstanding without use of a calculator or downloading an excel file, although I can if needed. I can easily show my husband our spending trends and cash flow. I have gradually added more to the app and we are now tracking net worth. It is a breeze.

The categories mix purchases into the billing category if you have both from the same company. The Ipad version is a tiny screen iphone version. The account worked for a while and is now broken. You are much better off with a budgeting template for your favorite spreedsheet. This is just half baked, occasionally functional and very frustrating to try to get to work.

Downloaded pocket guard and input my income and expenses and when I got to the page where you can input your goals, it told me I did not have sufficient income even when my Income was 900 and my expenses were 700. Tried three times but got the same result. It said I needed more income and it gave me a negative amount. No good. I deleted the app.

This app is a really cool idea and if it worked well I’d continue my paid subscription. However, there are a couple big issues: - It’s really slow - almost unusable. This seems newer. When I first started using it it wasn’t this slow. Just scrolling through transactions is so tedious because it freezes and then scrolls way further than you want - It doesn’t always catch when your accounts are out out of date or not updating. For example, I have one account that just won’t seem to update any transactions from the last 6 months but PocketGuard isn’t showing any errors with the connection. This type of ‘silent’ failure to update really takes away from the value because I can’t trust what I see in the app. -There also seems to be pretty frequent errors with accounts where I have to remove and re-add them or re-enter credentials. This is probably more related to the external accounts and their security but it’s still annoying. All in all, I find myself using the actual bank apps more than PocketGuard due to these issues even though I’d prefer to have it all in one place and use PocketGuard.

This app has been exactly what I’ve been looking for when it comes to budgeting. I love that I can see my spending patterns on a monthly basis too. I did decide to purchase the lifetime option, and love that I can change transaction dates (especially for end of the month transactions) creating my own categories, and being able to split my transactions. It gives me a much more clear and accurate view of my spending. The hashtags has been great too so if I’m paying via credit card I can know what that specific I transaction was for. All in all, I love this app!

This app has potential but it’s so flawed at this point that it’s virtually useless. Many many transactions are duplicates so your budget updates are always wrong. Some transactions are repeated two and three times. I written to the support email several times but I always get the same bot response. These developers have a good idea but a terrible execution. Which is too bad. I really wanted a portable budget app that gave me ACCURATE updates on my spending. This app does the very opposite.

There’s no way to view pervious months budgets. Also, how do you save for things like car insurance that’s paid every six months? Support said to make a manual saving goal but because it looks like my budget is overdrawn from car insurance I can’t make any savings goals until my budget is balanced! I like that I can customize categories. Syncing with bank is nice but takes several minutes to sync just a few transactions.

It is being very helpful in tracking expenses. The only downside is that it runs 1-2 days behind the time of the actual transactions. By the time the weekend is over and transactions load on Monday night or Tuesday, it’s hard to remember what we spent on Friday and why. I wish it was more real time, like a banking app. However, I think for the most part, it is helping us.

Every day when I open the app I have to manually remind the app to refresh my bank account data to the current day. It used to automatically update around 5am daily. Also, it’s taking longer and longer (upwards of 3-5 minutes) for the data from the bank to cross over to the app. This used to happen within a few seconds. I have downloaded the most current version with the same issue.

Great job, this app is a great. I will like to request the developer to allow more flexibility when searching for transactions out merchants. It only allows up to 5 months. Some of us need up to a year. Thanks 🙏🏼

You can't sign up using only your email address, it has to be LinkedIn, Google or Apple. Feels very intrusive, I'm deleting it before even using it because of this.

I constantly have to contact support to get missing transactions to show up in this app. This app is supposed to make budgeting easier, but as of right now it’s too glitchy and unreliable to do that.

Biggest complaint is the frustratingly long time it takes to update your accounts. It takes days for it to reflect past transactions whether they’re income or expenses. The app itself offers plenty of features but it’s not very user friendly. Adding some tutorials would be nice. Getting rid of the Find Savings tab would be nice as well. Overall this app just throws a lot of information at you and doesn’t really show you how any of it is connected very well for you to actually manage your budget properly. You’ll find yourself trying to go back and forth between tabs and various options just to do a simple task.

I paid for the lifetime and wasted my money. On the snowball debit plan … if your credit card company doesn’t participate in plaid you can’t do it. The only way to add it to your debit snowball plan is to add it as a cash account. And then the app thinks you have that money available to spend. I want to pay my credit cards down and can not use a credit card to pay another credit card. Which is what the debit snowball thinks you can do. SMH if I could I would give this a 0 for a review

Tried linking my credit union. Got a text with verification number. App tries to connect with my correct log in but fails. App fails to allow user to enter verification text info as a scree never asks. App fails to allow user to connect credit union…tries to connect then fails. Look around, there are apps that are much more “user-friendly” and work.

They also send you unwanted emails, as many as they can! With no way to unsubscribe :)

I’ve literally never written a review for an app before, but I had to because I felt so strongly about the quality of this app. I used mint for a long time bc it was free and got the job done, but recently, Mint stopped supporting my bank (USAA). So, I was on the market for a new budgeting app and stumbled upon PocketGuard. I have to say, I’m extremely impressed. I love the ability to save for my goals without having to think about it. I love how it calculates my estimated monthly income so that I don’t have to do the mental math when it comes to budgeting. I love the notifications it gives me when I spend too much on a particular category. I love the customizable budget categories (not an option under Mint). This is truly the greatest budgeting app I’ve ever used, and I’ve been budgeting my money very persistently for about a decade now. Also, the customer service is probably the best I’ve ever come into contact with, across any business or platform. You have a question? Email them and you’ll get a response back within 24 hours. In fact I emailed them once with a question and received a response back within 30 minutes. Overall, this is a fantastic budgeting app and I couldn’t recommend it more.

Overall I love this app- once I figured out how to use all its functions, it’s easy to maintain and keep track of expenses and budgeting. The main change that I’d love to see to the app is having a way to track infrequent large expenses that don’t fit neatly into budgets such as car maintenance, emergencies, yearly vet visits, etc. I’ve used this app for over a year and don’t see the need to change anytime soon!

Macro vs Micro - App focuses on month to month budgeting, you can not future budget ahead, only for the month you are in. Would be great if we can get a more holistic view of financials over a given period and get more macro data. What does that past year look like? 6 months? What about the next 6 months? Trends and projections would be powerful. Goals is messed up. I want to set up goals but not have it pull from “In My Pocket” Also, it takes a very long time for my bank to sync. It’s been 17 days since my it has updated. I’ve reconnected and refreshed many times. We need better connectivity and near-real time syncs. I bank with Lending Club and I was told the Native connection does not work and have to use Plaid which is suboptimal.

As helpful as you make it, this app allows user to easily create and edit categories in order to track spending patterns. Exactly what my family needs!

There’s currently only LinkedIn (???), Google, and Apple. Get using a 3rd party for security reasons, but don’t understand why you can’t just add Microsoft and/or just add MFA. Was excited about using this, but not going to signup until more options are added. Disappointed.

There was supposed to be a 7 day free trial if you chose to try the app... I tried but had issues connecting my bank (not their fault). So I decided to delete my account and cancel the subscription, then come to find out that even though I had the app for 2 days I was charged the full year's price. Very nice of an app to do that claims to want to help you manage your money.. 🤮

I like the concept and visual design of the app but where it is lacking is the intuitive design. When I try to mark a bill as paid, it should be easy but it isn’t. A pop up appears telling me to create a new bill which is redundant. Canceling this subscription.

I paid for plus to be able to access the debt payoff plan. I’ve added a few accounts, but am no longer able to add credit cards or loans. The whole point of the payoff plan is to help me understand the order in which to payoff debts by using snowball or avalanche method through the app. I’m not able to get the full picture since I cannot add all my accounts to compare APRs and balances. Continually getting error codes 170, 940, and “contact your administrator if error continues” errors.

There is only three choices of how to sign up for this. I don’t wanna sign up with a third party company. I want to sign up with a email other then the companies you have chosen. I guess I’ll go with someone else that will let me.

Visually appealing and easy to understand your spending. Easy to categorize spending and add income. I’ve been looking for an app like this for a while and am glad I found this. I like the pie chart feature and how up to date my accounts are. Please stay around to use forever! 😂

Good value and does a lot but definitely a little hard transitioning from YNAB to this. One of my most missed features is sharing the budget with a partner- I haven’t figured out how to do this or if this is a supported feature yet.

I’ve been loving the app. Super-easy to use. Handy budgeting and categorization of expenses. And the customer service is top-notch!

I really want to love this app, but the thought of onboarding all of my info from my cell phone gives me great pause. I would love to be able to set everything up from my computer then monitor and make adjustments from my phone. It is a great app full of useful features. I will still use it for a while.

Tried using mint but it would never sync quickly with my bank and the layout wasn’t very intuitive. Been using PocketGuard for about a month now and absolutely love it. It syncs with all my accounts super quickly and has a ton of customization options for your budget that make it super easy to track any sort of spending.

We love it. I just wish it were a little cheaper, and maybe had its own built in savings. And I little easier to understand. New at this still- we’ll get there!

Finally! An app that let’s me track my expenses real time…and accurately! I have tried 14 other budgeting apps in the last year and each one had something buggy about it, or the process flow didn’t make sense. I used to use Mint but there are too many problems with syncing transactions, etc. This app does all the things I expected the other apps to do and has other cute features (icons for each budget). I’m sticking with this one from now on. After playing with it for a few hours I bought the annual subscription which is reasonable compared to the other apps I’ve tried. My only request is that the Spending and Budgeting screen should be easier to get to once the app opens, since I use it daily to make sure I’m staying within each budget category.

Mint was so frustrating because transactions took forever to update and would continuously have to remap accounts and reassign transactions.

Seems like a useful app but I wouldnt know bc I haven’t been able to connect to my bank for weeks. Ive tried contacting the support team like 4 times and no response. Boooooo. Will just delete.

This app looks like it has everything I want. Then when installing, and reinstalling, and again reinstalling, it wouldn’t set up my income correctly. No amount of troubleshooting or FAQs could fix the problem, so it looks like I’ll be moving on to a different app.

So far, the app looks like it can be super helpful. Unfortunately, it’s super difficult for me to start using in the middle because the app starts your budget over at the beginning of each month. So if you’re jumping in midway through a month, it’s hard to figure out how to give the app insight into your current financial status. To avoid a headache, I recommend starting to use the app at the beginning of a month so you can work from a clean slate.

App and website did not allow me to create account with my own username and password. Do not want to log in with LinkedIn, Google, or Apple.

Would have given a 5 Star if all my accounts would connect.

I kept talking about keeping a budget for years but kept making excuses. I originally installed mint, but as pleasing to the eye as it is, it is not as simple and intuitive as I'd like and months passed without recording anything. So when I decided to finally start, I deleted the app and looked again and this Budget Planner was my first choice. I was surprised by how quick and easy it is to use, intuitive, with a customizable yet simple interface, and mostly, informative. Easily budget customizing, custom finance categories implemented, subscription-manager, expense tracker, the app works like a switherland clock. Pocketguard is an extremely good budget planner for everyday

Also historical net worth is often wrong. Rest is great.

*UPDATE* Been using the app for a few months now and multiple transactions from my citi card are frequently missing. It is an ongoing support issue that has yet to be fixed and makes the app useless. I’ve tried multiple other apps for budgeting (Mint, YNAB, Quickbook, etc.) but found most to be either too complicated or more focused on working down debt. I wanted something that could: sync my accounts, keep track of transactions, and help me limit spending on different categories- and this app has been perfect for that. Positives: Learning to use the app has been quick and easy, able to add multiple bank accounts, credit card payments are automatically excluded from calculations which helps organize transactions, easy to re-label transactions to different budgets, I can see the free version being sufficient for a lot of users, paid version is a reasonable one time fee instead of a yearly subscription. Critiques: Would prefer the “spending & budgets” category as a tab on the bottom instead of the “find savings” tab (which is basically an ad you can’t get rid of even with a paid account), difficult to set up multiple “goals” if you only have one savings account, only able to set a budget for a month- would be great to set a yearly budget for big things like travel, home improvement, etc., difficulty adding one of my bank accounts (resolved by adding through website instead of mobile app), and this is very minor but aesthetics are a little dated. Being able to choose your own colors, light vs dark mode, updated icons, etc. could really go a long way. Overall, I highly recommend this app and am planning on staying with it for the foreseeable future.

I love using PocketGuard for tracking my day to day spending and making sure I have enough to cover my bills. It’s fairly intuitive and is better for day to day tracking than things like personal capital. However, there are a couple things that don’t work quite right or as expected. Firstly, pending transaction are taken out of your “pocket” but can’t be modified or attributed to bills. It can take quite a while for some transactions to be marked as cleared, which means that often times my “pocket” is wildly inaccurate, since it’s counting large bills like my rent effectively twice. That kind of defeats the purpose of the tool. Secondly (and this may have more to do with the financial institution), but there are certain accounts that are listed as addable, but simple aren’t. My savings account, for example, hasn’t been able to sync for 6 months and the error is just a vague “something went wrong.” Mind you it syncs fine on other budgeting apps. So that’s disappointing.

I really like this app. It has really helped us see where our money is going. I do wish their was an option to turn off auto categorizing of transactions. I find myself searching all transactions for errors almost daily. If i could turn it off I could rest comfortably knowing they we’re always correct. For example, we sometimes buy gas at a location and sometimes we just stop in for a drink. The app puts this stores purchases in one category always. Not a big problem, can just be time consuming. The app is completely worth it regardless.

Please do not install this app! It took me over 2 years to stop the spying and malware this app causes!

I was really excited to start using the app. I go in to create an account and the only two options are to use google or apple to sign in. Both times it responded with error insecure password. It would be fine if I could just make an account through the app. Very frustrating.

I absolutely love this app. I have been using the free option and it does so much. If you are wanting to set goals or attach receipts then you would need to get the plus but honestly it’s really inexpensive.

It’s a pretty great app! I am terrible with money and this has made it A LOT EASIER to track my expenses and see where my money goes. And it’s been pretty revealing! It’s made a huge differences in how and where I spend my money! Am gonna use this app for a long time going forward!

Wish the one time payment wasn’t so expensive though.

This app was almost the white unicorn of budgeting tools I always wanted. Unfortunately the lack of one feature makes it unusable for myself and my family and that is manually entered transactions to be reconciled. Other apps allow you to enter a transaction when it occurs, and will either automatically reconcile it from the bank if it matches, or give you the option to reconcile itself. This app requires the transaction to clear the bank first, which can sometimes take days. The app implies that it’s showing you your actual working balance sans upcoming bills, but a holiday weekend of transactions hitting on a Tuesday will show you it was way off. Fix that flaw and I’m a lifetime subscriber, but until then I have to use something else.

This app has made it so easy to see where our money has gone and is going to go. My new husband and I decided to share accounts and we were struggling to relax into that after independently controlling our finances for so long… this has made it so much easier! I had to contact customer support one time and they were incredibly prompt and helpful. I knocked off a star because I wish it was able to do the following (but would have only knocked off only half a star if it was an option): 1) I wish you could choose to carry over unspent budgets to the next month. ie If I underspend this month on ‘home’, the budget is bigger the following month to purchase a more expensive item. 2) I wish it could learn and adapt. We pay two bills to Banfield Pet Plan each month that come up as BP. When we buy gas from BP, it goes into bills because it think it’s the same. So a couple of times a month, I have to manuallly change names and categories - sometimes I have to re-enter the banfield bills and then, when they are paid, they don’t register as the ones planned. This is a niche and minor issue but slightly annoying nonetheless. 3) I wish it was a little more prompt in identifying new transactions. Sometimes the banking app will detail transactions as no longer pending and it’ll take a day or two for them to appear on PocketGuard. These are minor things that I’d like the developers to consider BUT overall I love this app!

I don’t have anything negative to say about the app, it works as efficiently as the person feeding it information and making adjustments here and there. It’s smart, but certain things have to be edited by you, which is completely expected. If I start using it more diligently, I may even like it more than I do.

My husband and I love this app so much! ❤️ It helps us keep track of our finances and unwanted subscriptions. We will continue to use this app from here on out for our household

Seems like a great app. Won’t stay connected to Citi so a bit useless for me.

I have enjoyed using this app. Their are a few problems with keeping accounts from not working at times but every one of these apps have the same problem. This has been my best experience with a budgeting app so far. Helps me keep track of spending and gives me great insight and capabilities with tracking my budget.

Never had any problems with this app until recently. Keeps having issues syncing with my bank. I think this app needs an update.

A lot of bugs for months and now is reverting all old incomes and bills deleted. Contacted support and they are not interested to investigate. Very poor support and app! Premium canceled!

App is well designed and extremely helpful, though there’s room for improvement. A number of banks are not able to sync (Apple card, Ellevest) which causes for inaccurate info, the desktop application is exceptionally slow preforming, and there are a few features that could use tweaking (like the ability to recognize transactions and associate them using ‘to’ and ‘from’). Still rating 5 star though, because it is the best money management app I’ve ever used and I find it very user-friendly.

Firstly didn’t even prompt for trial but straight away deducted $7.99 for monthly subscription. Later when i tried to cancel subscription then there was option for free weekly trial along for around $2. App was laggy , every time I entered amount it would still say “please enter amount” and had to re-enter. I would be very happy to have my money back. Cancelled my subscription on less than 2 hours of purchase.

Great app ! Helped me when I was overwhelmed when keeping track of all my bills. Only complain is that sometimes it took about a day for the app to update how much money I had in my accounts. Other than that it was perfect !

This thing won’t connect to any of my investment accounts. No 401k, no brokerage, no crypto. Doesn’t connect to my mortgage account and one of my auto loans. Spent all that time setting it up, paid the $25, and it’s useless.

Can’t explain in words how helpful this app has been in helping me keep track of all my expenses and all of income, cash, cash app, Venmo, my car payMents and the way it’s affecting my budgets and what I should and shouldn’t be budgeting for.

Better interface, nice and simple. Able to see all bills outgoing and income in one pie. Used to be free, now cost $$, will wait to see if it goes on sale. Would highly recommend!

I downloaded it and you can only add 2 expenses in the free version monthly. So, in my opinion, it’s not worth it if you dont wanna pay for the premium version.

While it makes sense to scroll and read that this app isn’t free. It makes so much more sense to crate the “in app” purchase option so people could know, it’s not a free app.

I’ve used mint and every dollar. Every dollar is very clean looking, PocketGuard takes some getting used to. BUT, I’ve got to tell you, after taking a few days or so to get my feet wet to truly understand this app and learn how to navigate my way through it, I love it! My favorite features: – upcoming bills. It’s a feature that I have sorely been missing,Knowing what bills are coming up and when is key for making sure I’ve got enough money in the bank to avoid overdraft payments. Super easy the way I have it set up, on the overview page I have a section that includes all my fixed costs for the month, easy to see and easy to categorize. Makes it super easy to budget what I have left over. - hashtags.I love the hashtags, never been easier to see how much I spent on back to school stuff , on my recent vacation, etc. -Love the easy comparison from one month to the next to see if I spent more than less than the previous month in a particular category. There’s more, but suffice it to say that I found the app that works for me. My only qualm is that I wish you could customize the color scheme. I’d like a lighter color scheme.

Highly recommend this app. It is amazing for keeping track of your money and how it’s spent. I liked it enough I took advantage of the 4th of July special for the upgraded version. I have multiple sclerosis and my cognitive functions are sometimes impacted, so being able to see and track everything in one app is a great tool. I had connection issues for one of my accounts, emailed support when it didn’t correct after some time and the customer service took a day or so after my email (I think?)

I’m used to looking at our monthly budget in 2D, and if I wanted to do any sort of analysis, I would have to do all the work, taking hours. This 3D app does the majority of the work for me so I can step back, look at where my money is going, and start making better decisions. I haven’t even seen everything it can do yet, very excited

Hello! Love the concept of debt pay off. But Apple and my local credit union are not options. Should be an option to have manual entry and update these types of cards monthly or as needed.

The streamlined application shows a lot of intuition. However this is overshadowed by your unstable APIs and account connectivity issues. For example, when trying to connect to Citibank returns a false error because there is nothing to do on cities website from a required connection. The problem is on PocketGuard side but you have to dig to find this information. Also no way for user to report bugs and there are plenty. Connection error Sign into your financial institution's website and complete their required actions before trying to connect to your accounts. (108)

My bank is on the list, but when I try to connect to it, it gives me a connection error. Leaves the app in a pretty poor position for a budgeting app. Heard good things about it, but if I cannot use it I cannot recommend it.

What attracted me to this app was that it would tell you how much money you have left over after all your expenses were paid. I had hoped this would be the one and only budgeting app I would ever need. Well where do I start? First off, while it automatically updates my chase bank info, it doesn’t automatically update my Navy FCU. I have request a code, then wait for this app to let me enter the code which takes at least a minute. Once it has the code then it takes about 20 seconds or more to update. All other apps continue to sync whereas PocketGuard gets amnesia. This is a big fail which the company really needs to work on. The second issue I have is the app predicting how much and when my next paycheck will be. I get paid by the law firm on the 15th and 30th of every month but if the day falls on a weekend then I’m paid on the Friday or Monday. You can’t program the app to adjust for this. Second, hours paid changes depending how many days are in a month. I.E. 30 vs 31st vs 28. While my hours are consistent, the payout varies according to the calendar. Simply put, some pay periods have one extra day or less a day or even. This app doesn’t account for those variations or allow to to program that algorithm. In comparison to Mint, Experian, NerdWallet, and WalletHub, PocketGuard ranks in the bottom of my list. So far down the list in that when I’m done with this review, I will delete it and not recommend it to anyone.

This app looks like exactly what I want out of a budget tracker (I need that ‘ACTUAL money available after bills’ snapshot in my face so I don’t forget what I actually have to spend, not just what my account balance is) But it’s getting stuck when I try to link my bank account! 😩 I can search my bank, it comes up and I login in and then it’s forever loading. I want this to work I’ve been scouring other apps and nothing seems like it will help me that’s a free app. 😭 Customer service perhaps? Help!

This app is great to help with budgeting and seeing the bottom line on the amount of money you have across accounts. Everything was working great except after a few days some accounts repeatedly aren’t syncing or are behind several days. Otherwise it’s a great setup and easy to use, but accuracy is lost with accounts not syncing right.

It has some cool features. Especially ones that I need to pay for. But I can’t because it complains of unknown product identifier. So basically it’s useless.

Without landscape it’s useless.

Way too expensive for this tool/app. Big paywalls and no way to see what actual benefit these added tools bring behind the wall. I can get other subs for way less and your competition will crush you. Wish it was different but I won’t be the sucker paying these fees to help manage my finances. Very ironic.

A simple and easy to use app to make it easy to manage my money? Sounds too good to be true. Yet I decided to give this app a try. And at first it was working great! Then all of a sudden, it stopped syncing data from both of my bank accounts. I’ve tried to get it working, but I keep getting an error message. If this can’t be fixed soon, I’ll have to delete the app and look for something else.

I think this app is great overall. Compared to other budgeting tools this is the best one I’ve used. I would even consider upgrading to the subscription, but I have serious problems with how it connects to my bank. My bank requires MFA to connect and so I am constantly needing to re-authorize in order to link the account. First, the notifications are annoying because I’m reminded of the issue multiple times a day. Second, I never had this issue when I was using Mint or another app for budgeting. I don’t know if this is a bug, but this is very frustrating because I like the app a lot in every other aspect. I think MFA is important, but I would rather have to do that to log into the app, and not have that be the cause of not syncing between the app and my bank.

I’ve tried dozens of apps to get my family finances under control, and this one finally worked. My wife and I love it! We’ve been using the free version for about 3 weeks, and we’ve already managed to cut over $500 in spending that we didn’t need. And we’re finally feeling like our finances are getting under control. To the developers — thank you so much for making this app!

I have been using this app for a while now. Then I decided to upgrade to the subscription. At that moment the app begun to freeze, Unable to work on it for days. Useless unfortunately because I think this could be a great app. Customer service not useful at all. Been asking for help over a week now and no real resolution has even made available to me

I like this app generally. Easy to use and can help provide a comprehensive financial picture if one doesn’t experience bank-connection issues.Also really love the feature that other apps like Mint do not have of being able to save a retailer to one category and never worry about it again. However I have not been able to link to Citibank even though I’ve tried repeatedly with the right password.The password checks out, and then it goes to a screen that claims it’s connecting with the bank but sits there for more than five minutes. I’ve tried to connect at least 10x. Reached out to customer service and they told me I didn’t use the right bank password (and that I should “copy and paste”) as if I’m an idiot. Not a fan of this response as I had paid for a monthly upgrade. Will not pay for a full year and will discontinue use since this prevents me from actually seeing my entire financial outlook on that app.

All in all it is very easy to use. My only dislike is that you cannot adjust the bucket that pending charges go into, that can set you behind on where your budget is.

I’ve had this for about 2 years and I absolutely love it. It’s really simple, and has a great way of breaking down my monthly expenses so I can track everything.

Love the app! It’s exactly what I needed with nothing too complicated. The plus allows for budgeting and it’s worth it. I’m able to keep an eye on everything and write notes on transactions. I would give it five stars if it wasn’t for its duplicate transactions. It keeps scaring me and then when I check my bank it’s only one transactions. It’s also easy to hide it but it’s really annoying. Everything is good then all of a sudden it’s calculates something twice. Please fix.

This app was great until it stopped syncing with my bank. The UI is clean and easy to navigate, and the app automatically categorizes my bank transactions mostly correctly. Its not 100% accurate, but at a glance it gives me all I need. I cut my spending bu at least $600-800 this month while the app was functioning. Unfortunately now It wont sync while either of my banks even after trying the web app, rendering it essentially useless. I really hope you guys can fix this soon.

Let me tell you- all of the previous reviews are old. I’ve been on this app for the since 2019 & will honestly be here until I die. Hoping it lasts that long. 🙏🏽 I’ve been searching for a way to understand my spendings between categories, month over month & watching my budget. This is everything & more. I love the personalization that I can add my own catergories, mark a specific merchant as something once and never have to touch it again & even exclude things like transactions between my accounts. This is the app if you’re anal about how you spend your money & it even helps if I want to budget for let’s say shopping. I love it. Please note I am a premium user & to me it’s worth it. But I’m sure the free version is equally as good. The other apps mint, your bank, random ones only work if you have a goal. But for me, I want to know where, what & compare my spendings month over month so I can see how I’m doing. Or if I need to stop spending! Anyway highly recommend. And two last things- 1) they’re IT or support literally responds within 48 hours. You’re never left hanging and no question is stupid. 2) the app is constantly evolving. It’s not the same as it was two years ago, it’s better! If there’s a bug, report it! If you have a suggestion, suggest it! I love all the latest updates & it really helps me think of how I’m spending my money which was my ultimate goal. Thank you!!

I reaallly want this app to be my go to budgeting tool. It has the best UI/UX of any app I’ve ever tried, it’s so great to use. But unfortunately it just doesn’t sync up with your card transactions very well. I have “pending transactions” from over a week ago that are definitely not pending anymore on my credit card. It also labels pending purchases with the incorrect vendor. I think PocketGuard has trouble with transactions that have tips? For example I went to a restaurant a week ago, but PocketGuard still says it’s pending and has the wrong merchant. It seems to mix up the merchant with previous purchases. Along with this, it’s missing some transactions from last week. Mint doesn’t have this issue, all my transactions are there, none of them are incorrectly labeled as pending, and all the vendors are accurate. There’s so many thing PocketGuard does right, but I can’t justify using it for budgeting when the transactions take forever to correct itself. I would gladly pay for a subscription if this wasn’t an issue. When it works, it works really well. Maybe I’ll try again in a couple of months and see if anything improves. I really hope it does!!

This program is difficult to use. My wife and I both use it on our joint account, but our “in my pocket” amount rarely matches. It jumps around wildly over the course of the day as well so we literally never know how much we have. It’s difficult to figure out how to handle things like using your bonus from last month since finances reset every month. It’s also difficult to figure out how to handle periodic expenses. Mint tells you how much you have left and how many days remain, so while it doesn’t give you a “daily number” you can easily divide cash remaining by days remaining. Mints balance matches for my wife and I and doesn’t have wild swings throughout the day. We feel much more confident using that program which just very simple math without any weird issues. It’s easy to see where money is and where it went. I can not recommend this program.

Not all banks or credit cards are supported by this app, therefore not all financial accounts can be added to your profile. Pointless, in the case. Downloaded and deleted the same day.

Downloaded the app and wanted to try it out but it can’t even connect to my bank to get started. Disappointing

As others have mentioned, the connections with banks/accounts are infuriatingly bad. I have not been able to connect my Marcus by GS account for a year. Support told me that this was because of a problem on Marcus’ side, but Mint handles it just fine. The features are good, but at the end of the day who cares if the features are good if you can’t get the data in. Improving the connections should be the development team’s number 1 priority in my view.

Once you link your accounts, you will frequently experience emails from PocketGuard with “Houston, we have a problem” that states one of your accounts has been disconnected. If you’re lucky you can reconnect it, but chances are you’ll keep getting an error. There are some accounts, like my retirement, that won’t even connect for a first time. It’ll tell you wrong credentials, even though I’m literally copy and pasting them from the account settings of that bank. If I can’t connect my accounts or if they won’t stay connected then I consider it unusable. Definitely not worth the paid version, at least. It’s a bummer because the analytics and budgeting features are easy to use and understand. Oh well, onwards.

As many people have said it that the app is very good. It logs for most parts of it accurately all the expenses better than other budgeting apps. However where it lags really behind is that they have not figured out a good partnership with the major banks and credit cards on how to get the synchronization perfected to be able to download the transactions seamlessly. I have problems with PNC and American Express. These are two bigger reputable institutions. I hope pocketguard really talks with those institutions and gets this fixed. If they can get it fixed which I don’t see why they can’t I will surely give them 5 stars. It’s like the restaurant has a very good atmosphere but if the food is bad somebody may not want to go back. Similarly the app is super good however if the synchronization keeps failing time to time people are going to have to decide and leave because without the transactions being able to be downloaded the app is no good which is so good in other ways. Please please fix. I am counting on PoxketGuard to come through it. Thanks

Worked great and I liked the app for about 2 months. Now it refuses to sync my accounts no matter what I do.

The app has not synced transactions in 10 days, which makes it pretty useless. I, too, have had no response from customer service and have since moved on to a different budget app.

I paid for the plus membership to create my own goals, but out of nowhere my transactions stopped refreshing. I manually refreshed my linked accounts several times a day but nothing worked. I contacted customer service 3 times over two weeks and NEVER received a reply. I am so upset that I paid for a product that just stopped working and no one would respond to my emails/messages, so essentially I wasted $25. Save your money and pass on this app.

My transactions have not updated since the last app update. I have sent 3 emails in the last week to no response.

I’ve had this app for a few months an absolutely loved it until it stopped updating my banking information. Now it feels useless!

Best billing app I’ve had very easy to use

I downloaded this app just to see what my spending looked like and I discovered a 1000 fraudulent charge on my credit because of this app!!! 5 Stars!!!!!

Tried setting up the app but got 6 error messages before I was ever able to connect my bank account. Will be deleting the app before I even got to try it.

And no one is responding. Oh well!

This app was working great for about a year. However, my bank recently implemented some two-factor authentication security measures, and now PocketGuard is no longer able to link to my bank account. I have gone back and forth with support, and they have been unable to correct the issue. I would like a refund for my subscription please.

So I’m a very skeptical person when it comes to believing that the app is going to be true to not selling your information or gaining too much access to your bank account or even having to wonder if your money is safe but I went ahead and I put my account information and it was great. So I decided let’s do it again for my other bank account but my other bank doesn’t even exist in the system I thought all banks were going to be excepted but apparently not. So if there’s one thing I would like for the developers to change that would be it. The fact that they don’t have my bank in the system is kind of dumb. Ok now I know a lot of people probably haven’t even heard of my bank it’s probably something that only exists in my area but still I wish it would be in the system. I use Apple Federal credit bank and I typed it in but nothing showed up. So if you (the developers) could start adding some smaller branch banks in to the system that would be really helpful to linking my account and accurately being able to make a budget and use the app like it’s supposed to be used. But since you don’t have the bank that I use in the system I can’t really use the app like it’s supposed to be used for because after I got married it turned out that my primary bank account ended up being Apple not BB&T and it’s not in the system so how am I supposed to be able to use this app if I can’t link my bank account to get accurate numbers on my budget goals and spending allowance? So if you (the developers) could make that change to adding smaller branches into your system that would be more than appreciated and helpful. Thanks

This app is ok so far but it needs some work. Please add a feature where we can add a due date for things that are billed every 2 months. For example, I have a bill for renters insurance that is billed every 2 months. The app has the option for me to select it but when I tried to put the next bill due date in the app, it won’t let me select the date that is 2 months from now. Please fix it. Also transactions don’t always show up although the banking info is correct. Once the app is more user friendly I’ll update my rating.

I was looking forward to giving this a shot but I’m unable to even link my Ally Bank account so this app is essentially useless for me.

PocketGuard does what I need it to by bringing all my accounts into one place. The hashtag feature is great when I’m trying to track a specific thing that may be related to multiple budget categories like #VR stuff :) The notifications are a hot mess though and there is very limited controls. Also, I’m paying for a subscription here, can you please disable the ad notifications for your find savings section? It’s not helpful and I get no value from it at this time. What I’d like to see is individual control to enable and disable notifications as needed for bill reminders, late bills, large deposits (payday), going over budgets, etc.

I budgeted with pen and paper and it didn’t match what Pocket Guard pulled together for my initial budget, seemed way over estimated. Now it’s in the negative but I know I have money to spend...how can I adjust to make it accurate? At this point it seems kind of useless.

I really liked this the first few weeks. Now I’m just over it. This app never refreshes my account summary despite doing manual refreshes. It’s still stating I have 1700 in my checking and has said that for 6 weeks despite numerous paycheck deposits and bills paid. Going to delete and find another budget app that’s superior.

Once again an app that does only half. You’ve got to buy premium if you want this to do a budget. Deleted.

First, thank you to the developer! This is the app so many have tried to be but failed in the deployment because of complexity. This is a really simple clear roadmap for your budget and it can help with those pesky subscriptions that we all forget about - excellent app!

The newest app version has taken away the best feature- showing you what is “in your pocket” on a daily & weekly level. Now it only shows big and bold what you have left for the month. This is near useless. I got this app so I could do daily budgeting, which is now ruined. Please change back or allow the swipe feature that allowed you to change between a daily, weekly and monthly level view.

Not very ironed out yet, but a good entry into the budgeting space.

I automatically delete all apps that dont have landscape view

Every time I try to use the app I have to continuously keep connecting my bank and I did not know this when I paid for premium. I asked for a refund because I’m not going use the app anymore and they refused. I’m confused if I no longer like the app shouldn’t I get a refund? Thought this would be a good app but wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

So I’ve looked at a lot of budgeting apps. I downloaded maybe 10 and this is my favorite of them all. It’s free and while the pro version is a bit too expensive, I can confidently say it’s the most unique and easy to use app with lots of great features. (The free version)

Heard about this from my SO, it’s easy to use & free. The only reason I gave 4 stars was bc I couldn’t add store credit cards onto my Pocket guard account (an error popped up). Also, I had a spending goal but under goals, I wasn’t able to write that down (ex: I want to spend $100 on groceries each week). This isn’t too much of a problem for me, bc I can keep track of this myself. I just wish I could add my store credit cards. Also, my SO said he couldn’t add his Apple Card so I guess store credit cards not connected to major banks don’t work. However I still think it’s a good app and user friendly.

First off, your product teams and developers are just inconsiderate and maybe lazy. Why would you make a user stare at a grey screen for 2-5 minutes when linking accounts? Why do I have to stay on that screen. If I leave, the app times out and I have to start over, staring at a grey screen wasting my life. Also, when your app asks for the confirmation code from the account you are linking, don’t you think the user will need to leave the app and check and email or text? Oh you did think? Then why does your app freak out, end the account linking process and make you start over, staring at a grey screen? Just plane rude. Delete, too much waiting around for errors on connection or doing nothing helpful.

Very misleading, acts like everything is free but it is not. You only get very few features when free. Will have you fill out several pieces of information, upload pictures, complete several steps then tells you it costs money. Anything you save they take almost half! Stay with Mint!!!

So far I am loving this app! I just wish I could set up budgets for all of my expenses but the app only lets you do 3 budgets. After that you have to pay. I may eventually purchase the upgrade though. It’s probably worth it, but the basic works great for now.

For me, this is the first budgeting app that doesn’t feel like a pain to check every day, because the format is so streamlined :D I appreciate how it shows all of my transactions for all my accounts in one real-time feed, gives a breakdown of expenses in a pie chart, and says how much money I have left to safely spend this month. I love how simple the format is, because too many bells and whistles discourage me from using apps.

This was my favorite budgeting app for the last year and has been super helpful in me keeping track of my spending. I even bought premium. However, the last few months the app doesn’t capture all of my transactions, which has made my budgeting difficult since it is no longer an accurate representation of my spending. Sadly, until this problem is fixed i will have to look for another app.

Pros: -graphs and pie charts showing spending, income , and what was spent on -easy to set up -dark mode with cool colors - let’s me adjust dates on transactions which is nice because my paycheck for a month sometimes comes in the next month which can mess up my data - auto savings as well as auto saving from each pay check - a lot of categories to choose from for transactions - merchant history which allows you to see past monthly spending on one category Other things these are the best for me CONS: - I don’t know why some transactions aren’t showing up and it really screws with my income vs spending graphs -can never connect to Sallie Mae - auto save isn’t consistent at taking out money as indicated Overall I love this app and for the past 2 months I’ve run into the problems stated in cons. I don’t know why it’s happening I contacted support and they’re taking a while to get back to me. If these things could be fixed this app is the best among the others in my opinion. But these flaws are defeating the purpose for why I even use it :/

It forces me not to waste money and the fact that it is able to connect to my back account seamlessly, just makes everything more accurate so that I know how much money is coming and going!! Definitely download it!

Best app I’ve used to keep my finances straight!

I really wanted to keep using the pocketguard app. Great design, showing prominently how much I could allow myself to spend for the week or month. I spent hours categorizing my transactions so the app could group my expenses properly. But none of that mattered because a core function of the app does not work. A couple weeks after setting up the app, I started noticing that the app was missing multiple transactions from multiple accounts. Meaning that the budgets and quite literally all the calculated data in the app was incorrect! I reached out to app’s support team but after after weeks of back and forth, the only solution they provided was to use a feature of the paid version of the app to manually add the transactions as cash transactions and then delete the transactions when they fix the problem at some undetermined time in the future. I was even willing to go that route, but the support person could not give me any timeline when the problem would be fixed. In short, the app is broken to the point of being unusable with no fix on the timeline. A further point, they said the issue is with their data aggregator’s problem with my account issuer and that the problem is affecting a large number of their users. The accounts are with Chase, one of the largest banking networks in the states. I don’t see how the developers can keep soliciting app downloads and subscriptions when they have such a major flaw with the app that affects so many of their customers while having no timeline to resolve. That’s very irresponsible so this is definitely not a developer anyone should trust with their finances. If you’re using this app, please verify your transactions against your account statements so you don’t overspend based on the app’s incorrect data. There are other budgeting apps available that are far more reliable.

A lot of my accounts have some type of error where they won’t sync up and bring up my balances anymore which is rendering this app useless but I can’t find anything comparable to keep all my bills in order

i really like this app and have been using it for a while, but today i go to log in and all my account features had been restricted. i figured my subscription ended so i resubscribed. yet my account still says “basic” and my features are still limited. until they fix this bug it might as well be a scam.

Would like to be able to fully adjust all transactions. Does not offer split transactions.

The app is simple to use but has duplicated multiple deposits and withdrawals in my transactions, which makes throws my budget amounts off and makes it a hassle too use.

Loses transactions and needs constant babysitting. If you trust the numbers it gives you, you WILL overspend.

The tools are here. The sync works. The concept works. The program that tries to give names to your transactions is just terrible. I come back to this app about every 6-12 months to see if it’s been scrapped but it’s still chugging along misidentifying transactions. Heaven help you if there’s 2 or more bills from a similar lender if you want them classified differently, or if a utility decides to have a new accounting firm processing charges that changes the name. Then they blamed me for the mess that their software created. If it would just let me give out unique names if and when warranted then I wouldn’t have an issue.

Stopped supporting my bank 😫😭😢 Can no longer use it .....

Works as advertised. What is frustrating, and out of their control is that major banks are cutting their connection off due to privacy. Asked for a refund and was told to go to apple which does not give me an option for refund. If you bank with a major bank..fair warning. Their are connection issues that currently have zero resolution.

This app is what I’ve been searching for. I read about it online for a few days and then went for it. Tried to connect my bank MULTIPLE TIMES, only got an error message all of my info is correct. I logged out of my normal bank account to log back in for verification. Once I read the reviews and seen that this issue is common, I just deleted it! I hope this app can be fixed, I really want to use it.

PocketGuard is a very helpful budgeting tool, BUT ONLY if it’s actually working. My spending information is currently a week out of date, which means the app is of absolutely no use at all. Still waiting on a response from customer service to get this resolved.

I absolutely love this app! I used to use the prism app but they started to have system issues and when I tried to address them, I would be waiting over a month to get a response. So I tried this app called Pocket Guard. I read a bunch of reviews on a what everyone considered “The best finance apps”. This one stuck out to me the most. They really thought about the user interface and how the consumer would have to use the app. I thoroughly enjoy discovering all the features and information this app provides. I don’t need to use any other app once I set everything up. The customization of categories is such a great feature that I opted to pay the annual subscription rate. Great job Pocket Guard! 👍🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love pocketguard, but too frequently there are errors that make it impossible to use. I get the same Error 940 "Puppetmaster" error all the time which prevents the app from connecting with my bank. It will sometimes work for a day or two then be in error again for week or so after. Customer support didn't really even respond to my e-mail, just an automated response asking for more details when I literally sent them a screen shot, and it's their own error message. I was considering buying pro, because when it works it's awesome and has literally helped me prevent overdrafts and stick to a budget but it doesn't really work very often. Aside from the broken bits, my recommendation would be the ability to select a date and see how much will be needed for bills in that time frame. It currently only shows end of month, but I always end up needing to bust out paper and pencil and manually (navigating away from the app logs out, so can't even use the calculator app at the same time) add figures to see what I need by next payday, as opposed to month.

Please reply to my request for help. I can’t use the app til you help me. All of my Capital One expenses from end of January and first two weeks of Feb are duplicated, so I can’t tell where I am in my budget. App has been great until this. I’m a paid subscriber.

This app is great if you want something very basic to track your expenses. Bank accounts sync flawlessly, and it is easy to make a custom budget and track purchases. Where it needs work though is in the integration of the “Spending Limits” category into the rest of the app. For some reason they have 2 separate categories for “Bills” and “Spending Limits.” I am sure most people, like me, primarily use the “Spending Limits” portion which is not really used for any data integration in the rest of the app. I would like to see “Spending Limits” integrated into the “Overview” tab and future monthly income accounted for in the “Overview” space. It would also be nice to see some changes made in the “Insights” tab. Ideally, “Spending Limits” would be broken into macro categories and these macro categories would comprise the pieces of the pie chart under “Insights.”

I pay for this app and it was amazing in the beginning, but now it won’t accept my banking information, does not refresh for weeks, and is generally useless to me now. Support is helpful to have it corrected for about a day, then all of the glitches reappear.

Overall this app is great, but with a major bummer. One that kind of ruins the app for me. Pros: - Organization - Customization (categories, notes on individual transactions) - Spending analysis - interface Con: Can’t edit pending transactions, which means the data at your disposal is almost always stagnate. This is a serious problem. I was primarily using this to keep me on track with how much “free” money I have at any given time, replacing the google sheet I was constantly updating. I’ve already paid for a years subscription but if the inability to edit pending transactions doesn’t change (in any way - e.g. don’t count, add hashtag, change category) I don’t think I’ll continue using this.

No split transactions. That is a huge problem. No way to balance your budget. You can set spending limits, but those numbers are not calculated. Total income - bills - savings goal - spending limits = monthly budget. There are Issues tracking savings transactions. If I transfer money from checking to an external savings, the transactions will show up as spending in the checking account and income in the savings account. Me transferring money to myself is not spending or income, and it messes up the totals in the income and spending categories. There is no way to fix that other than not including the transactions in the tally. If those issues are fixed, I will give this app 5 stars.

I am a Plus user and I love the UI/features, however there are some flaws that make me want to use a different app for budgeting purposes and cancel my subscription: 1. I do not get reminder notifications for upcoming bills even though I have notifications turned on for the app. According to PocketGuard you are supposed to receive a notification 3 days before my bill is due but I am not getting that. Also there is no setting for this reminder, you cannot adjust how far in advance this “reminder” occurs. 2. This app does not seem smart enough to handle credit card bills. Every credit card bill is variable, therefore what I paid last month will not be the same this month. PocketGuard acknowledges this by saying “this bill fluctuates”, however there is an issue with this. When you create the credit card bill from the transaction of you paying it, it will input how much you paid for that bill as how much it should be every month. When the next month bill is due, if I pay a different amount PocketGuard does not recognize that and will tell me my credit card bill is over due, when it is not. This could just be a bug, but still very annoying and I expected better from an app you must pay to use all its features. 3. Transactions from my debit and credit card are really delayed. Any transaction (even pending ones) take 3-4 days after they appear on either account to even show up on PocketGuard. This is not a bank issue as the same accounts are used on the Mint app show up right away, so why does PocketGuard have an issue? This delay causes me issues with budgeting and defeats one of the purposes of the app, tracking how much money is in your pocket each day. Complaint #3 is probably my biggest gripe, as the first two may just be bugs or just something that can be improved on.

Very few months a different credit card company or bank stops working with this app. Sams club is latest that doesn’t work along w capital one and synchrony bank.

Worked great until it stopped syncing with my bank account. Now it’s useless, and I feel like I wasted my money. Thanks for nothing.

The sync with Capital One does not work. The latest update did not work and worse now I cannot sync even manually. The issue with Capital One has been for a while now. I like the app and have paid for a year subscription but I have to reconsider this if the app does not work with a major banking institution.

Error given when I tried to setup my account a year ago. Developers said they fixed it numerous times but it never worked. Here we are a year later, still not working. Simmons Bank.

I really love most of the features of this app but there is virtually no customer service. I had trouble linking two of my accounts and reached out twice to customer service but haven’t received any response, after three weeks, even though I purchased the premium subscription. Although I love the features of PocketGuard, I can’t take full advantage of them because I couldn’t import all of my accounts, which means I don’t have a full picture of my finances.

Used many finance apps including Mint and Wally. This one is by far my favorite in terms of UX, meaningful insights, no adware, and graphs. Also have used hash tags to track monthly spending. Only problem I have is it syncing with my checking account. It has 99% of the transactions expect for bigger items such as income and mortgage so graphs are not accurate.

I found this app by accident because I’d been using Pocket Money and the new owners absolutely destroyed everything good about the app in their latest update. This is so far beyond everything I was using before. Gorgeous user interface, intuitive, and just so amazingly convenient to have all my financial account balances available at a glance in real time. Also, a lot of transactions from the bank have weird descriptions that make it hard to determine who it was actually to. I LOVE that PocketGuard allows me to batch edit a particular payee and put every instance of it in layman’s terms. Stellar work, guys.

I’ve been researching a lot for a good budgeting app and this one is by far the best. I like the layout, colors, they budget page and it tells you how much money you have left to spend that month/week/day. I’ve never bought an app before but I bought the plus version of this one!!

The staff at PocketGuard really seems to care about the user experience and feedback. Wonderful app thus far and I’ve tried many.

I’ve reached out to customer service twice now. First, two weeks ago, and more recently 3 days ago. I pay for the Plus version and I’m yet to receive a response :/

I find that I am continuously getting signed out of my bank accounts, which means I am not getting up to date info about my finances. This is quite frustrating, and I have received no comment from customer service on the issue.
