TL;DR: Monarch has some good ideas and is generally well designed, but for $15/month it gets several basic things wrong: the trial is too short, auto-categorization is unreliable, rule priority is opaque, and category/budget organization is unnecessarily confusing and restrictive. Full Review: Monarch is feature-rich and mostly well designed, but several fundamental blunders seriously degrade the experience and make me question how a $15/month, award-winning budgeting app can get some of the basics so wrong. First, the 7-day free trial is far too short and feels greedy. This is a budgeting app built around monthly budgeting. You realistically need at least one full budgeting cycle to understand how transactions, rules, rollovers, recurring expenses, and actual spending behave over time. Seven days is barely enough to finish setting everything up, much less evaluate whether the product actually works for you. Second, auto-categorization needs to be rock solid at this price, and it simply isn’t. Monarch categorized a Baskin-Robbins purchase as a coffee shop. Baskin-Robbins. One of the most recognizable ice cream chains in America. As a coffee shop. That is the budgeting-app equivalent of categorizing McDonald’s as a hot dog stand. Mistakes happen, sure, but errors this basic seriously undermine confidence in the system. The rule system is unnecessarily opaque and inflexible. Rules apparently execute in top-to-bottom order, with the first overlapping rule winning, yet this hierarchy is not made clear in the UI. Worse, there is no way to reorder rules. If rule priority matters to the outcome, users need both a clear indication of that priority and direct control over it. Category organization is another mess. Categories exist within groups, yet the settings UI presents groups and categories together in a flat list at essentially the same visual level, even though they are fundamentally different objects. Group ordering should be clearly separated from category ordering within each group. Reordering itself also seems buggy, with changes sometimes failing to persist, and it is unclear how the order configured there relates to the ordering shown in the Budget tab. This entire interaction needs a rethink. Finally, Flexible budget items appear to be automatically ordered by spending level, with no obvious way to manually reorder the groups and categories. Why? A premium budgeting app should not be making an arbitrary presentation decision like this with no override. Fully unconstrained category and group ordering is a basic organizational feature, not an advanced request. There is a lot to like about Monarch, which makes these shortcomings surprising and more frustrating. The app is close to being excellent, but at $15/month the standard should be much higher. Basic categorization accuracy, understandable rule precedence, reliable reordering, and full control over budget organization should already be solved problems.

I’ve used Monarch for 3 years. It’s the app that help me clear 125k in debt and I am happy to say it has allowed me to accomplish my financial goals. Amazon app and I am so happy to see commercials about this app everywhere. People need to know you guys are amazing.

Everything is clear and concise, but the software needs to include the extra paid features under the base plan.

I feel like I need an onboarding with this app. There are so many things I can and can’t do. And the initial setup instruction is great, but there are so many things I don’t understand how to set up or get to work for me. My biggest help is notifying me in advance of upcoming bills. Well, it tracks some monthly bills but not others. And I can’t get it to track bills that aren’t the same amount every month, like power or water. It would be nice to find an in-depth tutorial on all of the aspects of the app now that I’m familiar with the basics. For reference, I’m not an accountant by any means, but I’ve been doing my own budget for 25+ years. I know how finances work. I just need to know how to make this app work for me.

refresh sucks

Great for keeping track of where money is going and staying on budget. I especially like that it keeps track on non monthly expenses. I purchased a subscription, but if I want some of the newer features I have to pay extra on top of that. Could use a nicer looking interface. Overall pretty good app.

This company is clearly astro-turfing these reviews. Apple, do something about this. Tried the paid plan for nine months. Data was literally lost. Duplicate record imports. Regular account disconnections. Right now I’m stuck in a captcha loop and can’t even access my account. Support is useless. Don’t believe the fake reviews. Stay away. And, Apple, do something here to protect your customers!!!!!

It’s only 100 dollars a year and I’ve already saved 1000 dollars a month after seeing where my money’s been going

Before this app, I was so frustrated and worn down on budgeting. One night I stayed up researching apps that were out there. This one immediately caught my attention. After so many apps not meeting my needs, I was hesitant but then thought, “what’s the worse I can lose in a 7 day free trial,?” I’m so glad I took a chance. This app meets all my needs and is simply amazing!! I have been telling all my friends and family about it!!

Update 1 year late: We still love it. They continue to tweak and improve and provide great new features to make everyday budgeting and long term planning better! Original: We’d skipped from Mint to NerdWallet and looked at countless others searching for an app that would allow us to view and manage all of our finances in one place - and allow us to budget. This is the first app we’ve found that gives us all that and the kitchen sink. The interface is incredible to use, the customization elements are deliberate, functional, and exactly what we needed. This is definitely worth every penny.

$15 a month to even use the app. Wish this was more transparent. It’s also unclear whether your partner would also need to pay this $15 fee (which would be absurd)

I does a very poor job with producing tabular reports, the graphics are pretty, but not very useful for analysis., Most programs have a variety of reports tracking sounding, by group, and categories by month, or spending versus budget in similar fashion. Otherwise program is great and easy to use.

Easy to see

Last update removed the ability click on budget category and see transactions. It only shows the totals and have to sift through transactions to find them. Huge usability issue!

A great finance and budgeting app that looks clean, easy to use and navigate, and focuses on exactly what it advertises. Great functionality and different options to view everything related to your finances. One of those apps where you are happy to pay for because it provides a great service for the price. I tried a few different ones and nothing matches the simplicity and functionality of Monarch.

This tracks everything you need and the best part is the account sharing. The UX is not quite there yet, it could use some customization work like moving things around and more themes, but all the functionality is much appreciated. I think the budget part is a little confusing how to set up at the beginning.

Our bank has a known connection issue with all 3 connection platforms. It’s been a month and still broken. It makes the app worthless.

I thought this was a good replacement for Mont for my money tracking. Spent the next year chasing down over charged service and help tickets. These guys are idiots. Use Origin, so much better and no issues.

Cant live without it

I’ve tried a few personal finance apps and Monarch is far and away the most proactive with integrations and makes it easy to track manual accounts alongside them.

Very useful for people whose finances are spread out between multiple services (bank, brokerage, 401k plan, credit cards, even Venmo, etc) to get an understanding of your cash flow.

Just works, which is high praise. Except that my wife and I have not been able to make her membership work with the Monarch account I started and that’s a big problem for family use.

I’ve been trying to keep better track of my financials but with so many ways money goes in and out it’s more complicated for my brain! This app really really works! It helps sort my Amazon purchases, my retirement funds, my subscriptions and helps me see where my spending habits can be honed. I love the goals which allows me to track savings for big future purchases. I used Mint before but it never worked for me. This really works for my right brain creative style!

It’s given me insight into my spending patterns and habits and helped me increase my awareness around my money and helped me increase my investments and savings. Well worth it.

To an already great app.

Just got the app set up a few weeks ago and I like it better than any other money managing app I’ve tried. It does a much better job keeping all of my accounts synced. The features are intuitive.

Paid for a year long subscription, wasn’t able to connect my credit card to the account. Not a user error considering the connection between monarch and the cc holder never connected even after logging in through monarch. You shouldn’t charge people for a year long subscription that doesn’t even perform the basic task of what your product is built for.

Pretty much the greatest app ever made. Makes our lives so much easier.

The new receipt import feature is great. We’ve nailed our budget down even more with this feature and really helps to get me and my wife on the same page

Not having API access is my only issue. Let me use my data! Overall, I do love the app.

I really enjoy monarch for its simplicity and insight. Monarch makes it easy to track where your money is going and keep up with recurring payments. I have really enjoyed the app!

I'm not sure what changed over the past few months, but this app is so slow now. Opening different menus, reports, changing categories, etc. happens so slowly with no feedback anything is happening. So the worst part is you tap a transaction, for instance, nothing happens, no loading symbol, no feedback of any kind. So you think your phone just didnt register your touch maybe? So you go to tap the same thing, still nothing, tap tap tap. EVENTUALLY it will load, but all those other taps you did? Those were all queued, so once the app finally decides to open the thing you wanted, it also opens up 10+ duplicates of the same thing, which you have to close manually. The slow loading is already a massive annoyance that didnt used to be a thing for the last 3 years I've been using this app, but the experience around it with no feedback, and then flooding you with the same page repeatedly after not responding, is making me want to find a new finance app if the developers can't fix it. It's been happening for the last 6 months or so probably.

I love this app— I switched from Empower and it’s a world of difference: my accounts load and refresh with ease; the customer service is fast and efficient; the interface and different tabs are easy to use; aesthetically it works!

I tried YNAB and excel budgeting but Monarch was the only tool that stuck. So easy to use and provides information in easy to understand and sometimes very cool ways. As a visual learner, Monarch really helps me feel secure with my money.

It’s very inconsistent about how it shows updates. For example, it will tell me that the transactions are updated for an account, but in a different view, it tells me the account is disconnected. Then when I reconnect the account, the net worth jumps up in a spike instead of spreading out over the time that it was disconnected. This is the fourth or fifth issue I’ve had with this app in the year. I’ve had it. I’m looking for other options that offer greater value for the price.

I didn’t find it more useful than the free apps during the free trial.

The amount of times that I would have to reconnect my accounts or that it would randomly not allow me to connect an account for weeks at a time was countless. I’ll just use my banking app instead of paying for a product that doesn’t work.

I love this app, but the update does not allow customizing goal contributions month-to-month, which is a huge issue for someone whose income varies seasonally. I like to budget out about 6 months at a time and would really like to customize a given month’s individual contribution again.

The new receipt feature that lets me automatically categorize purchases is fantastic. Thank you all for such a great app

This is an absolute life saving application. If you can’t link certain accounts, I will say, support makes it seem pretty hopeless that they’ll ever get updated. Other than that, it’s great.

I feel crazy that no one else seems to be having this problem. Logging in and attempting to change account preferences are very difficult on mobile. Frequently met with blank, white pages or never-ending auth redirect flows. It’s also a shame it can’t attempt to pull in full historical data. I’ve waited a week, hoping it would go out and fetch previous years of investment data. Making the switch is a much tougher sell without that.

A couple of weeks ago, a new feature change caused some confusion with how I track my monthly spending. I reached out to the developers to ask what was happening, and they responded the very next day! Once they identified the issue, they were able to fix it quickly in the next release. I really appreciate their responsiveness and how quickly they addressed the problem. I’m so happy that I can continue using this app with minimal interruption. Great support and a great app!

I’ve had this app for a few days and except for the fact that I cannot get MetLife or Sunwest Mortgage to connect to it, everything else did connect and the information it provides is astounding. If I can get those last two items to connect, I’ll be batting 1000.

I love the app and have used it over the last few months to effectively manage my finances across investments and my personal accounts. I do have a feature request though, which is to add smoothing to the net worth and all other graphs. What I mean is being able to select a duration over which to average the amount, so as to account for pending transactions and slight fluctuations, which make the graphing look a lot more jagged. Thank you to the developers for this great app and alternative to previous money tracking apps like Mint!

This is a wonderful tool for personal and family financial planning and budgeting. It is so helpful to have nearly everything in one place. I highly recommend it. I like that it’s paid so there aren’t advertisements

I am having two bugs. One where the website crashes when I try to link an account. I successfully give permissions in plaid but monarch doesn’t recognize it. The other is I am unable to Sign in with Apple on my iPhone even though it works on my Mac. I sent a message to support but they never responded to my follow up and the AI assistant is unhelpful and won’t submit a follow up ticket.

Where has this been all my life!?! Love this app because it really does bring our financial wellness into light and now both of us can be a part of it. This is such a great app! So easy to connect our accounts. Did I mention I love this app. UPDATE: I forgot to mention… I used to have a spreadsheet to track our finances. The time spent having to update each row of accounts was such a tedious endeavor. I dreaded those times and honestly avoided it. But now, with Monarch, I can check this anytime I need to. I can’t say enough good things here. Time saved, easy to read and beautifully laid out reports, and now getting to share this “chore” with my husband with much more ease.

I started using monarch less than 2 weeks ago and I honestly been enjoying a lot! I used to manually track my income and expenses on an excel sheet but after getting off track with that a couple of times I knew I needed a better system. When I found out about them I decided to give it a shot and was very happy with everything about it. The app is very smart about what expenses are what, it’s helpful to track your net worth and the way everything is set up almost makes me want to be more responsible with my money. I truly think more people should be using Monarch

Monarch is great for single users, but if you have shared credit cards or replace cards, expect duplicate transactions that support won't fix. AMEX duplicates every transaction across both cards. Citi duplicates old + new card accounts. Support says it's "expected behavior" and suggests manual workarounds. YNAB solved this years ago. Not ready for family finance management.

For an app that is paid for, the quality leaves a bit to be desired. In this age of AI, to not learn categories accurately and then have duplicates of transactions show up all the time that have to be manually deleted, is extremely cumbersome. I hope they get their act together soon. Otherwise, it will be time to look for alternatives.

Ever since Mint was shutdown, I’ve been having the hardest time finding a budgeting app that fits my needs. I even resorted to using excel which was decent except for all the manual work needed to set up and manage. This app is exactly everything that I want and need in a budgeting app!

Sadly just another app that does Not preserve your financial privacy. The only priority of this app is to collect your personal financial data to sell to data brokers! Be wise and use products that preserve your right to privacy! Monarch is nothing new or innovative! Beware!

I generally enjoyed Monarch, until I found out random bugs happening. Missing transactions, randomly reassigning categories that I meticulously set for all my transactions. I’m using Monarch to track my spending in categories, so I adamantly assign the proper categories to my transactions. I then find out that Monarch has been randomly overriding them after I’ve meticulously set them. I now don’t know which have been overridden, or reassigned, and have no clue how much I should trust the financial information it’s providing me. What’s the point in using a financial tracking application if it’s not going to be trustworthy and reliable?

Please can you revert the change that doesn’t let me see current months spending in reports. I use it to quickly help track my budget. The budget page has so much going on it isn’t really useful. The bar chart and top categories in reports helps stay on track for the current months spending.

Pretty good at monthly expenses and income but useless for net worth and investment tracking.

The current month is not showing anymore and that’s the most helpful thing. Very bad decision to remove it. Doesn’t make any sense

A full featured solid app with abysmal support. Their insulting and dehumanizing chatbot should be deactivated immediately but if the user persists long enough they can get to a Zendesk ticket which will take a long time to be replied to with the lowest quality assistance available to 2026 mankind causing the user to reply and reply and reply to the ticket in hopes they can save this company from themselves.

Please fix bug with cashflow section - it does not show the current month in progress anymore. definitely not as good.

Loved the app when I first got it. I convinced my husband to use it with me and it was going good, but the frequency of an account not reporting accurate amounts, re-authentications, mistagging items when there were rules, and deleting and relinking of accounts made this more work than we were willing to do. It was constant. Hopefully there will be a better version available in the future because it is needed.

I was expecting a budgeting tool that would help me organize, but the categorization and reports that are available really help to manage my funds and for my company.

The last update is causing issues with the Cash Flow section. I have monthly selected but it shows yearly dollar amounts. You have to click on the month for it to refresh into monthly. Also the current month is not shown like before. Only previous months listed. I use the current month extensively but now it’s gone.

As someone who was spending 2 hours+ a month on budgeting by spreadsheet, I can honestly say I expect it will take me less than half an hour a month moving forward. I love that they’ve really considered everything in terms of logging/labeling/shared expenses etc. etc.

This app is terrible at syncing accounts and even worse at support. Even after many months they are somehow incapable of interacting with the third-party financial data providers in a way that resolves issues. I guess they’re just really bad at building relationships and all of Monarch’s customers are the ones who suffer.

We finally have an app that can do ALL the things and keep us on track as a couple!

Monarch refused to fix their issue with NY 529 plans. We are saving for retirement and college. This makes the app 50% useless to us. PLEASE FIX and stop blaming Plaid.

Lately transactions have been missing. I know there were some third party issues and I’m not sure if they are fixed. You could do better on communication with those items. I feel backed up on my finances because monarch has not been able to show me the full picture the last few months.

I absolutely love monarch! My only con about this app is that you can’t budget by paycheck and can only budget by month. The yearly fee is not cheap so you would think it’s a feature they would have. Hopefully they will add the feature when they it i would rate it 5 star!

Frustrating change in app

Honestly app is great at what it does, few apps do better - but I want more out of the integrated AI. Sure, analysis is great and that is an extremely useful tool however, I want it to build and adjust based on request. I don’t want to go through and mark bills for adjustment or manually move things through categories, I want to request the ai to make those changes after discussion. I want to build budgeting with a discussion and be able to dynamically adjust over time - these things are very much so possible with the current state of AI and would make this app significantly better.

A truly refreshing look at finances

Amazing application, takes a few days to start learning its quirks. Took me about 3-5 to learn the ins and outs but once you start learning and messing with it you realize how powerful and how much control you have!

I’ve tried about every wealth tracking app on the market and monarch is the easiest to understand and use. I love the chart of wealth at the top. Perhaps immature of me, but I greatly enjoy the visual representation of progress.

I’ve been shopping around for spending tracking apps recently. Monarch has one of the nicest interfaces but it seems to be randomly losing transactions. Compared to Rocket Money and Quicken it’s just not reliable enough.

I would be lost without this app. It helps me run multi-businesses along with our family accounts. It filled a gap in my financial record keeping that I had needed for years. Thank you! 😊 🙏

I have been using Quicken since the 90’s. So I’ve built quite a history and I felt locked in. After using Monarch for two days I have a much clearer view of my financial picture, and I’m saving the time and tedium of manually processing transactions. Technology has advanced since the 90’s; it’s time to move on. I love Monarch.

I’m sure the app is great, but if I am trying to find financial help because I am struggling with money, why in the freaking world would I pay a subscription. I am struggling. I don’t need ANOTHER thing to pay for. My goodness.

I have reported the same problems 2 or 3 times. App is not applying payments to debt accounts and reducing balance. App has stopped retaining info about paydown goals and does not show it listed and does not reducing balance. App does not want to show my progress at eliminating debt. It is like an ex who hacks your finances and creates chaos so you feel hopeless. It looks good except it doesn’t feel accurate ever.

Far and away the best budgeting app I have ever used. Every feature you could dream of has been added and it is perfect for managing finances with a spouse. The team behind Monarch is constantly pushing updates and clearly takes great pride in their work.

I hate it when your trying to find a good app for something and find an app with great reviews and is perfect for what you need so you down load it just to find out that you have to pay for it. It’s one of the worst experiences and you could just put the price where you download it so everyone knows

They all suck which is exactly the case… ive been using monarch for about a year now and haven’t saved a dime yet monarch thinks ive saved about 3k and there is no way to fix the mess 🤦🏻‍♂️

After the recent update to include AI, everything took a turn for the worst. Accounts barely connect. The AI is terrible and gives incorrect advice. Help chat is with AI and randomly started speaking another language. I’ll be deleting this soon. The AI is making the app extremely slow, the transactions that need to be reviewed are not showing up

I have gotten a lot of value out of this app by doing nothing more than linking my accounts. Value would be enhanced if 1) there was more specificity enable for “other assets”, and if I was better at classifying transactions for budgeting purposes.

Only offer email support that has not helped. No real time customer support.

App is great but the AI feature is so annoying because it basically just tells you what you can already see. What would be amazing is if you could ask it to make adjustments to your budget without having to do it yourself.

I’m kind of irritated I got a year subscription. I do not find this intuitive. The online setup videos from monarch seem to be disconnected and meandering sales pitches instead of helpful step by step advice. I suggest you watch some of this drivel before you purchase, it might change your mind. Got bank accounts connected pretty quickly but if you have investments in something other than the big 8 they list it’s … well, I have no idea how to connect it. Bank account expenditures are automatically categorized but how do I change what they got wrong? No idea. I didn’t want this to turn into a freaking college course to set up.

This app is very thoughtfully designed and a game changer for managing your household finances in daily life while on the go.

I switched to Monarch after Mint was discontinued. I initially wasn’t too interested in a paid service, but Monarch is fantastic for budgeting and doing personal finance at $100 a year. Well worth the price.

I’ve tried my fair share of budgeting apps over the years. Monarch has been the only one that has all the features I’ve wanted. It connects easily to all of our banking institutions, including credit cards. It also has the capability to have rollover funds for larger, less frequent purchases like end of year expenses/taxes. I also like that it calculates our net worth, showing the monthly changes as our expenses vary and investments grow.

Monarch has been a game changer for my family’s finances! I used to manually track expenses using excel and it got to be too much. Monarch simplifies all of those tasks and much much more. Between net worth tracking, the visual displays, and the built in AI tool you will not regret the move to Monarch!

I’ve been terrible at keeping up with our transactions and seeing where all our money goes. The categories and roll over ability for each month is flawless. Would definitely recommend. Yes it’s a bit pricey but worth every penny. Quality is fantastic only thing I’d recommend is an offline form to see your budget you have to be connected or have signal to view the app.

Like everything except the connection to Schwab. Fussy, often doesn’t work and takes too much time every few days. Copilot does this much better.

I’ve been using this app for 7 months and love everything except the fact that it automatically categorizes all transactions. Several transactions have been miscategorized and we don’t realize it until months later when looking back. If new transactions could be flagged or marked somehow, this app would be perfect.

My husband got us started on Monarch and at first I was skeptical. Why are we spending money to track our money, but it has really helped us see where we are spending irresponsibly and then make changes. We are saving for a house so knowing where we can cut costs and see our spending habits is a game changer!

Best budgeting platform, super easy to use and see all my metrics

Compared to other apps, it does everything I want. A lot of other apps I used has tiny issues, e.g. Fidelity full view or credit carma. They had issues importing one or two of my accounts such as Morgan Stanley Stock Plan or HSBC. But Monarch does all of them right. Feels so good to see all things again.

I used to like Mint. Everything else I’ve tried since never satisfied me. There was always things missing or clunky. Until Monarch. It’s literally perfect. I’ve never had a moment where I thought “man it does not do that?” Nope. It does it all and does it in an easy to use and intuitive user interface. Well done. Non reason to look at any other option.

Just like the mint I used to love

I was lost after mint closed down until I found Monarch. They are the first and last app I check every single day. If you were serious about your money, you cannot do any better than Monarch for personal wealth management.

Nice app. Just know that every time you open the app, you’ll suffer through a “dashboard” which is really just their marketing ads on trying to sell you services. Is quite annoying. Might want to find another app before you spend time setting up this one.

I’ve tried a bunch of personal finance services, and Monarch is by far the best. I use it every day and am happy to pay the subscription.

Great app that keeps track of everything. I like the layout and how granular I can be with my budget. Best budgeting app out there and great for tracking all things financial.

I like how two people can upload their own accounts so each person can have ownership, and host the whole picture can also be seen. I like how you can see all transactions that come in. The accounts stay connected for the most part. I’ve been using it for about 8 months now and I like it so far. I do wish there was a way to order the accounts by balance rather than the order they happen to be listed, like I did when I used Copilot Money. It’s is easy to update the manual balances.

Unfortunately I have to update my review. I cancelled my Monarch subscription months ago when they stopped supporting access to my bank. I cancelled again when they sent me a reminder in May. They charged me anyway. I have contacted customer service but received no response. I’m left either no choice but to dispute the charge and replace my card as they clearly intend to keep stealing money. Very sad.

Been a paid user for +2 years. Low signal? Old iOS? You’re out of luck. They will have a giant screen come up that completely locks you out of using the app and the services YOU PAY FOR until you drop everything and go update their app. You’d better hope you’re not on an older iPhone that doesn’t have the latest iOS because they’ll 100% lock you of the app until you update. That’s something so bad, I almost expect Mint to do that.

I kept telling myself that I needed to create a budget, but I just couldn’t get started. My daughter told me about Monarch and encouraged me to give it a try. Monarch wasn’t overwhelming and walked me through each step. I’m happy to share that I now have a budget! Thanks, Monarch!

At first, there were a few glitches to work out with getting bank accounts synced and everything but eventually i worked out all the kinks and I have been really happy with the app. They are an ethical company and even send you an email letting you know your renewal is coming up. It has helped me a lot with knowing where my money is going.

This ghetto ratchet pathetic app deserves to be banned from the App Store. They are forcing you to go off app into a web Brower to unsubscribe or update any payment info. Making any changes to payment virtually impossible and avoiding apples cut of the $$$$. Take this app down now. It is horrible and violating your terms of service.

Figuring out how to adjust some transactions or payments so they aren’t in the wrong “category” is a little finicky sometimes but otherwise it’s an amazing app.

This app is great when it works! I have had issues with it logging duplicate purchases which takes a lot of time to correct. I sent a message to their customer service over 3 weeks ago and still have not received a response. The latest issue I have noticed is it has not been alerting me of new purchases for me to review. This issue also requires extra time to go back and check. I have used this app for over a year and overall I am happy with it. Just make sure you are checking all transactions for duplicates or mistakes. There seems to be no customer service.

Made my life so much easier! It organizes my financial views like my brain works - like if it was reading my mind and understanding what matters for me. Loooooove it! My only criticism is the new forecasting feature as a very expensive add on. It should be part of the regular package.

Why am I forced to update the app to use it? None of my other apps require updates this often, including my banking apps, so it isn’t a security thing. Please stop forcing me to update this thing.

This app has changed my financial life for the better. Using this app and my financial advisor guidance has allows me to save 5k in the past 3 months. Before then I had nothing in my savings account. I recommend this app to everyone. The best way to get the benefits of this app is partnering with a financial advisor as well.

As soon as my free trial ended and I gave them money, half of my accounts stopped working, and were unfixable despite all support told me to do. It defeated the entire purpose of the app.

Monarch is superior in most ways. I recommend it to my friends and family. It links accounts better than competitors, its user interface is better, its net worth tracking is better. Overall better user experience. One complaint, the budget section is pretty useless, that’s because they do such a good job with the cash flow section where you can visible track each of your categories that actually going into budget becomes kind of a chore when you can monitor the overall category spend simply from the cash flow screen which is what most people care about. 10/10 recomend.

I’m not a fan of the AI tool or the budget tools (never really used budgets) but I overall I am a fan of Monarch. I use it to check on transaction activity and on account balances. Sometimes there is a slight delay in the balance (a day or two) and sometimes there are connection issues with financial institutions but overall for being able to take stock of my activity and current-ish balances is very helpful. Massive plus is the ability to share the account with a spouse. Love that feature. It helps us keep know where our respective money is, not in a controlling sort of way but more of if something happens, I know where to look way. This is very helpful.

I love everything else about this app. It’s got a great desktop and mobile version, account setup was easy and it’s visually pleasing and easy to navigate. My husband and I can finally both see our complete and up-to-date financial picture in a way we can both appreciate instead of me just tracking in Quicken and printing reports for him that he’ll barely look at. When we’re out of debt I would give it 5 stars and will love using it. Currently we’re getting out of debt though. Simple monthly budgeting functions like applying your debt payments to your credit cards and loans in your monthly budget, applying extra income to a loan or credit card account and accurately tracking the final balance is just not possible. I’ve tried so many ways to make this work and each “workaround” I’m given by the internal AI (which is another really nice feature), is so labor intensive you might as well just be using a spreadsheet. Yes, they have a “debt payoff plan” with a simulator showing pay down strategies using both snowball and avalanche methods. But this does not integrate into your monthly budget easily, which defeats the whole purpose of a budgeting app in my opinion. Unfortunately I’ve already paid the annual subscription and I don’t think I’ll get that back, so I may just have to make this work somehow. But if you’re on a debt free journey, I would SKIP THIS APP until you’re out of debt. This seems to be an investment tracker and monthly cash flow tracker ONLY.

Don’t waste your time with Monarch. I used Monarch for 6 months and they sent me a free trial offer to try their new Plus account. I did the trial and decided the features of the Plus account did not justify an additional $100/yr. They told me I couldn’t go back to my already paid for subscription without having to pay for an entire year again. I still had 6 months left on my subscription and instead of downgrading my account to the plan I had already paid for, they cancelled my whole account and told me I would have to buy it again. Horrible customer service.

Starts working fine, then accounts stop updating, the bot blames plaid and the financial institution. But no fix.

I’ve been a Monarch customer for several years, but I’ve decided to cancel my subscription. Over the past few months, I’ve noticed a decline in the service and feature improvements. Things got worse in April when they introduced a two-tier system that wasn’t available to Apple subscribers. To add insult to injury, when you switch to direct billing, you can’t access the monthly subscription for the higher package. Instead, you’re forced to go straight to the $200-per-year option (plus tax). The base package is still available as either monthly or yearly. Overall, it feels like they’re trying to extract more money from customers while offering fewer features, and that’s disappointing. I’m not sure what’s going on inside the company, but it looks like they don’t have their business in order. It’s too bad, because they started well, but it’s time to move on to a different service.

I couldn’t be happier with this budget app.

For years I created my own spreadsheets that I often procrastinated to do. Monarch has helped me take this burden off my to-dos and now I have live cashflow and budget tracking. I only have the standard subscription. Tried plus but didn’t have a need for the forecasting and small business tools. I’ve been able to identify savings for myself and have used the goals feature to out more money in savings.

The original mint.com app and website won users over from Intuit Quicken in part from how it elegantly handled transfer transactions between accounts, such as credit card account payments from a checking account. In Aaron Patzer’s original product, this was automatic. Monarch, otoh, has to be trained to do this, account by account— and if the transfer transactions signatures change in the slightest, it forgets this training, and reverts to booking credit card payments received as income, and the corresponding checking account transactions as expenses, wrecking cash flow reporting. So I’m effectively back to Quicken 98 behavior, in 2026, with the added bonus that I pay annually for the privilege of having my financial data online to be mined. Reconsidering my options now.

I started using Monarch in January. I didn’t use every feature, but I did use the budget and the goals feature. I just wanted to make sure I understood what was going in and coming out of my account. It worked great for me. It helped me feel a little less anxious about my finances. Now, like any other ill-advised company, it seems that Monarch has decided to focus fully on AI. It seems like every week I find a new transaction that was missed by the rules feature. I constantly find duplicate transactions that my budget look like I spent twice what I thought I had. The worst is when I transfer money between accounts. It thinks that I’m getting more income, even though it’s pretty clear that $300 came out of my savings into my checking. The trustworthiness of a financial tool to give you good data seems like it would be vital. Unfortunately, I find myself directly, checking the numbers and transactions in my banking app because I have stopped trusting Monarch to tell me the truth. Worst of all, it seems that Monarch opted me into AI analysis of my finances even though I specifically hit cancel every single time I accidentally clicked on that stupid AI logo. I don’t trust the slop. I don’t want them to use my data to train their models. I can’t trust the basic features. I can’t trust them to not mine my data. I can’t trust the budget feature. Why am I paying for this? I have contacted support and added suggestions to their built in suggestions feature, but at this point I’m giving up on Monarch. I feel like I wasted my money.

My husband and I use monarch to have visibility across all of our accounts and help us better budget and save! It’s been so much easier than spreadsheets or checking our accounts at the dinner table to make sure we were on track! I love that we can sync our accounts for auto updates and set our own budgeting goals! As someone who hates budgeting this has made it soo much easier!

This app is much more like a money spend tracker than an actual budget. It’s passive, it lets you work off of projected income (so it will let you bounce a check, because you never know how much money you have available at any given moment). Worst of all, it’s not really compatible with credit card usage. Let’s say you spend $300 on groceries on a credit card. You categorize the expense, but it never tells you how much you have available to pay on your credit card. It’s bonkers. Not a real budgeting app, imo. It’s fine if you want to see like, how much do I spend on groceries every month, but not really designed for managing money.

I had downloaded this app and plugged everything into it but never really made any sense of the way the app flows. It is about 3 days behind the other budget app I was comparing to. I was going to cancel because I do not like the UI at all here compared to others. I would love a refund of my yearly subscription like you said you’d warn me before the charge. Seems predatory.

Great web tool, but the iPhone App Constantly freezes after 10 seconds. Makes it completely unusable

Monarch is great. For the first time in a long time I have clarity over all of my finances and a plan to eliminate debt and build wealth.

I’ve really enjoyed using Monarch, the transaction tracking is great to see spending trends of where you might need to cut back, and the account sync is awesome to see everything in one place.

It is a good app to track personal expenses and budgets.

Hmm. I installed it on iPhone and iPad., but when I looked for it on my Mac, I noticed it wasn’t there. It was using a web app! If web apps are so “fine and dandy”, why did you bother to make a separate iPhone and iPad app, but no Mac app? The mac is where I intended to use your app the most!

Monarch has a clean interface and is helpful for visually seeing accounts, balances, debt, and overall spending in one place. I especially appreciated the visuals and the ability to share the app with my spouse so we could both have visibility into our finances. However, for us, it felt more like a financial tracking dashboard than a true financial planning or strategy tool. It did a good job showing where money was going, but not necessarily helping us build a clearer roadmap for where it should go or how to improve financial stability during a transition period. I think it works best for people who primarily want visibility and organization rather than deeper budgeting guidance or collaborative financial planning support. Overall, it’s polished, easy to use, and visually appealing, but we personally needed something a little more proactive and strategy-oriented.

Enjoying the app but my credit card transactions are showing up twice for every purchase in the cash flow view of the app. Going to accounts everything looks correct. My review can change if this is fixed but if the cash flow and budgeting are inaccurate then what’s the point of spending money on this app. Please fix! I want to use your features

As a financial advisor, I’ve explored dozens of apps and have found Monarch to be the best. Co-Pilot is only able to be used on IOS (as of now), where Monarch can be used anywhere. It’s intuitive and easy to use and has really great reports that visually demonstrate spending habits and flows. I recommend Monarch to all of my clients.

Use to use Mint which was an amazing Finance Management tool which turned into Credit Karma which is not. After lots of research, landed with Monarch which has exceeded expectations particularly Budget Tracking and keeping tabs across my various accounts. The goal setting feature is also great allowing linkage to certain accounts to allocate a %.

Great app but would be better if backup and forecasting were available

Have to put your card info in to start the 7 day free subscription to even use the app. I hated the app so I unsubscribed on the apple subscriptions and yet after the 7 days it took my money! Requested money back and no response!

My husband and I signed up for this service to help with budgeting and to get a more accurate, transparent picture of where our money was going instead of relying on spreadsheets. Like many people, we have multiple bank and credit card accounts, and it seemed like every other day we were getting notifications that one of our accounts had disconnected. It became frustrating because by the time we had the opportunity to troubleshoot and reconnect everything, our budgeting data was already out of sync, making it feel like we were constantly taking steps backward instead of improving our financial health. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing connection issues and the amount of maintenance required to keep accounts synced, we decided to cancel our subscription.

So helpful to see all the things and categories

Loads of features bells and whistles but unfortunately messes up syncing which kind of makes it pointless. You need to go back and manually change everything after you resync otherwise all your history becomes incorrect. Also limited investment tools.

In today’s day and age you need to have a reliable way to get in contact with your customer service besides resorting to begging an AI thing to get you a real person and having to message them on Instagram

I like the app but I wish your investments could be accounted for as savings so your cash flow doesn’t look like you aren’t saving money.

Pros: My initial review was a little too soon, I gave it five stars initially because feature wise and user interface wise it’s exactly what I want. I tried several different programs and when this one is working correctly. It is by far the best. So we’re just going on features alone. This is a five star app. Cons, and it’s a biggie! If you can manage to sync all of your accounts, this program is flawless as I mentioned above. Unfortunately, the time you save using their awesome features is gobbled up by the amount of time you are going to spend syncing and re-syncing, deleting and syncing again. It becomes such a cumbersome nightmare for me that I’m not likely to renew next year. And there is a little to no Customer Service whatsoever, unfortunately. If you click on “help” you get to speak to what would probably be ranked as the worst Ai large language model you’ve ever used. It’s more or less useless. You’d be better off downloading all of the information you can find from their website and putting that information into just about any other large language model like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude, and you’ll get much better answers to problems you encounter.

I used to use Mint religiously, and when that sunset, I was very concerned about what I was gonna use - I tested out a bunch of the other apps out there and none of them stood out quite like Monarch Super easy to use Great product Customizable Big fan!

The subscription is far too expensive for the value provided. The AI categorization is unreliable (tagging Apple as utilities), and the UI is disorganized and confusing. Furthermore, the reporting tools and charts are very limited. The only redeeming quality is the number of supported banks; otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it.

I downloaded the app and got the subscription. The app has a lot of features but is not intuitive and takes excessive amounts of time to try and learn. I went back to my excel spreadsheet as it does everything I need for free, and takes less time than monarch did. Excel is WAY better for my CPA as well.

Love the features. Takes a bit to learn set up but well worth it. I consider it as integral as a password manager these days.

If you’re sick of how squirrels Rocket Money has gotten, this is the one. Only slightly more complex, and it can do a LOT more.

I was hesitant about sharing financial information with an app but after reading a lot of positive experiences I gave it a shot. It notified me of a recurring maintenance fee charge on an old checking account that I no longer used. If it wasn’t for this app I would’ve lost hundreds of more dollars before I even realized it. I tested out several other apps but the ease of use and features like being able to tag or add notes has made budgeting a breeze. my previous app had to be entered manually and I want up having way too many categories which made it overwhelming and time consuming.

I wanted something where I could track my different accounts easily in one area, but it doesn’t seem to track all my transactions unfortunately. I also don’t find the budgeting area nearly as intuitive or useful as every dollar. Editing is also more challenging in the budget.

Not consistent follow up and sufficient advise as to upcoming billing. They like to pretend that they assist you. I cannot recommend this service.

When it comes to a financial app like this, the accuracy of the numbers is very important. However, the app always shows incorrect data even when using a fresh link.

Slow and feels buggy, pedestrian interface and graphics. Not what I was looking for, unfortunately. The display is not sized well for iphone— which is weird since that is undoubtedly where the majority of users have it. Still in trial period looking for better options.

In order to upgrade to their Plus subscription, you must go to direct billing. You can’t do that unless you cancel your Apple billing. Great, but if you are a couple months into your subscription, you have to wait 10 months to upgrade? What kind of idiotic business decision is that to prevent customers from giving your more money. Time to find a replacement.

Amazing

I understand pending transactions are subject to change theoretically but it never happens in day to day spending. My hundred dollar grocery bill isn’t going to magically reduce. I needed this app to be able to track multiple cards and the fact that it doesn’t include purchases I am just making in real time makes this whole thing useless. They kept pending transactions for the cash flow page but now you have conflicting numbers to juggling. Add a little asterisk or notification to the account balance that it includes pending transactions and is not accurate. Bizarre the default choice is to just keep them invisible. this app can’t keep up

I’ve tried different money/budget apps and Monarch money is the best user friendly and informative app there is. I always come back to Monarch money. Try it, I highly recommend this app for your finances!

My husband and I are opposite schedules, do trying to keep in touch over expenses in the past has been difficult. I watched some reviews on various apps and found this one to work perfectly for our needs. We now can easily adjust spending see with each other has spent money on know how much certain bills were, and we can budget and plan together to put money aside. I love how I can automate our checking account any paychecks we get and any spending on our credit cards etc. can automatically be pulled into the account and I don’t have to manually stuff. I highly recommend recommended for families trying to stay organized. The money is worth the ease and stress-free budgeting.

I’ve been tracking my own finances via a very fancy excel grid for years. Every Monday. At the top of the year, I lay out all my expected income/expenses broken down into months/weeks. and every Monday I pay the bills due for the week. I switched to Monarch because my finances have just become too complicated now w/ 401K, stocks, etc and I really really like it. The recurring transactions doesn’t quite hit the mark. It’s probably the feature I don’t find useful. It just needs a much by better calendar view and payment schedule/reminders.

When Intuit sunset Mint Money, we struggled to find an app that matched the performance and ease of Mint, but Monarch comes close. The set up is a little labor intensive but it’s worth to get a complete financial picture with budgeting, spending reports, net worth and liabilities. The program saves me a lot of time at tax time with deductions and reports.

I love using tech to track my finances, and having tried many in the past decade - Wave, Rocket money, Mint - this is by far my favorite one. It allows for customizing the categories, great UI, and really nice breakdown everything. I go in once per day just to make sure my transactions don’t pile up and make sure my budget is on track. It’s been amazing for our money tracking as a family.

We used Mint for years, but when it ended I have loved Monarch even more, it’s worth the price. Saves more than the cost in a year.

I was initially impressed with this app but the more I use it the more frustrated I become. It’s practically impossible to export any useful data from it so forget about using Excel to do additional analysis.

Not sure how much it correlates but after downloading this app no more than a week after my bank account information was stolen and someone tried to open a credit card in my name

They hid the “manage subscription” button on the website version of monarch on my phone (aka in app and on my laptop I could not get to the manage subscription button under the billing tab)

I use this app daily for checking my spending, planning and budgeting, and more recently scanning receipts. This is easily one of the most useful tools i have.

Would give this 5 stars if it actually worked with various investment platforms - my Va529 doesn’t connect, my WeBull doesn’t connect, Fidelity connects but isnt intuitive, etc. retirement planning isn’t possible. In short, not good for investments. But - when it comes to managing your cash flow - there isn’t a better product on the market. I’ve tried them all. This one stands out.

If you cancel a monthly subscription, they’ll give you 50% the next 3 months, FYI. Anyways, it was so annoying to cancel I actually found it to be almost shady. Monarch subscription didn’t show up under my normal Apple app subscriptions list, and when I asked the app’s AI assistant for help canceling, it just kept loading. It also makes you toggle to a web browser (the direct in-app link managing your billing kept loading but never loaded). Could just be buggy, but interesting how it’s mainly buggy around cancellation.

I’m a few years in to Monarch and it’s one of the ways we track spending & hold ourselves accountable to both spending and savings goals! Easy to integrate with other platforms and accounts and the dashboard views are awesome.

Best money tracking app out there. I used to use Mint and loved it, but this is even better than that.

I was looking to replace Mint and the Quicken and find Monarch super easy and helpful. Now my partner has joined and we can see our finances together even though we haven’t setup joint accounts, it helps us get a truer picture of where we’re at

This app is really good but allowing the customer to set the start and end dates of a monthly cycle would be extremely helpful.

Unfortunately too many institutions get disconnected. Not really useful when you try to consolidate your assets in one single tool.

This app is fantastic for me and our household. I use it to keep on top of our budget, ensure we are meeting our savings targets and following our investments. It’s a great way to get the whole picture in one place. App is very user friendly. Really like it. Recommended for sure!

It’s so easy to use and allocate expenses using this app straightforward, and helps also follow expenses on credit cards

I have used other money software but Monarch beats them all. Easy to use and very detailed. All they need is a monthly report that shows trends by category or groups. Very impressive software for the price.

On the positive side, the bank account integration and ability to rectify connection issues really beats the pants off YNAB. It’s also quite pretty and I wish I had had more time with some of the investment and budgeting aspects. But on the negative side, Monarch just didn’t fit with my specific needs, particularly around cash accounts. Transfers to a cash account require two entries on separate screens instead of being able to choose the account I’m transferring with in the one transaction screen. (Same problem I had with Copilot, FWIW). The other thing I rely on a lot in YNAB is being able to initiate a cash transaction using Shortcuts. Monarch’s Shortcuts support is barely any and nothing related to transaction entry.

I have a lot of transactions and transfers that make an average bank statement look like a nightmare. Monarch does a great job of tying all of those accounts together, using rules to apply them to specific budgets and categories, and helping me keep track of what’s most important: spending less money than I make. I recommend this app to anyone I know that could use help with their budget. If I experience any issues with this app, it’s typically due to an API that Monarch has to leverage to poll data (Plaid, MX, Finicity, etc). Accounts using MFA often fail and have to be updated on a weekly basis, so the app requires more manual intervention than I would hope for. Outside of that, I have few quarrels with the app. I rigged up the Goals feature to calculate them backwards and track loans to friends/family, and the Rules feature makes most of the budgeting nightmares far more streamlined.

My husband and I use this app to congregate all of our accounts and expenses and it makes our life so much easier and financially smarter. I Highly recommend!

I came to this app after hearing that Mint was disappearing. I have been comparing it to Mint, and so far, so good. I haven’t fully adopted the app yet, but I’m getting there. I am still comparing some features to other budgeting apps that I have used and or am currently subscribed to, like Marcus (by Goldman Sachs) and “Copilot Money” (a fairly new budgeting app). Let’s see how this goes.

When mint shut down, I was upset. But I found Monarch which is better for a number of reasons. Here are my top 2: 1. You pay for it. Sure, it's a cost, but YOU are the customer, not advertisers like in Mint. 2. Sankey graphs on the web - the best way to visualize money flows hands down. Not on Mobile, but part of the whole value. They're great.

Took a bit to set up and learn but it’s exactly what I was looking for in a budget app. I had used a similar one previously and kept wanting to have the features monarch did. I waited so long to transition because I was lazy and didn’t want to link my banks and make categories. That was silly.

I really loved mint except for a few things like you can’t totally change the budget categories. I saw Monarch is from the developers of Mint. They made it way better!

As someone relatively new to financial tracking and budgeting, Monarch has been incredible for fostering confidence and financial literacy. Streamlined, no nonsense, never overwhelms, intuitive interface. Would recommend :)

I’ve been a loyal Monarch customer for several years. This app has been a good budget tool with reliable account connections. However, Monarch has always sorely missed planning features like goal planning and retirement planning. As of an email this evening, they finally released these features, only now I’d have to pay an extra $100/year to access them ($199 total). That is a crazy ask for a feature that should be standard with a standard $99 annual plan. Sure the new “Monarch Plus” gives a free Will creation and a few business-specific features, but no one asked for that. Budget forecasting and planning are standard features that no one should have to pay extra for. It looks like new Monarch subscribers can look forward to future upcharges for any forthcoming new features. Just wait for the new “Monarch Plus with AI” product coming next month. Monarch, you messed up. Look elsewhere for your budgeting software.

Unbelievable how bad the pre-determined categories are. How hard is it to google the name of a merchant and know what they sell? Also so remarkable hard to collaborate with your spouse. So diasspointing

Monarch does not do a very good job pulling updates balances from accounts. It will say it refreshed but it does match the actual value. Also even if it has correct info (e.g. how many shares I own in my Morgan Stanley account and the share price, it still shows the old total investment value). Clearly a bug. Overall seems pretty buggy and will have to often delete my account from monarch and re-add to get the accurate value.

I tried to add my bank through the app and the web. Although my bank is in the drop down and I have the correct bank info I got stuck on matching the pictures. I also tried the troubleshooting page. I could not find a way to speak to a live agent. Not worth all the effort.

Loved the app retirement planning should have been a core feature not tied to business on plus most likely will switch

I am so happy I can see all of my accounts in one place. I can budget and set long term goals.

They promised new features for months taking feedback from the community of paying customers. When push comes to shove… they slam the new features behind a paywall three times more expensive than the current product. So long monarch you have ruined the trust and goodwill you had.

For visualizing and keeping track of everything it’s amazing. I do find some flaws of it, though that I think they could definitely improve. Making rules and goal setting. These are honestly very cumbersome. You can only automatically track income for goals. You can’t auto track expenses. So for example, if I get my paycheck income on my checking account, I would have to attribute that income to my goal. But that’s not realistic because I would transfer that money to my savings account or my investment account. But you can’t link a transfer to a goal. You also can’t see transactions on investment accounts right now (it’s in beta but it doesn’t work). I also can’t make a rule for transfers accurately (they need to allow the rules to say “from account” and “to account” because just filtering “account” isn’t specific enough), nor can I set up my savings as an expense without having to manually input those expenses as a contribution to the goal. I hope this makes sense but basically TLDR transferring money is not a forte for this platform. I do like that it says transferring money doesn’t have to be tied to the budget so that’s helpful but I do wish there was some way to actually link the transfer information. I don’t want to think of a transfer from my checking to my credit card as an “expense” and then an “income”. It should just be a transfer that I can attribute to both accounts. Honestly, I’ve gotten rid of my goals because they just became too annoying to deal with and if you do a rule where you put a bunch of transactions linked to a goal, you cannot mass change it or revert it so you also have to manually fix it if you accidentally do that or just delete the goal. Basically what I am saying though is that saving money and tracking savings in your budget is not flushed out enough because now my savings I have to consider as an expense because I can’t accurately categorize transfers as a saving. If I could say “transfers from X account to Y account contribute to my goal” that would be great, but all it is is “transfers in X account”. I don’t want ALL of the transfers contributing to the goal. Sorry for the rant but it definitely is something that I think should be more fine tuned. Unless I am missing an entire functionality.

I’ve been running a small business for 7 years, and this is the first feature set that allows me to clearly see both my personal and business finances and process tax accounting. A huge win!

Forecasting is a core feature, stop gating. If you want to have a product for business fine, but make it a different app.

Once you spend the time to set it up, it’s so good and simple.

This is a pretty nice tool to consolidate all spending in one place; however, this app requires pre-existing budgeting discipline. I would not recommend to someone new to budgeting - going over budget in one month does not carry over into the next month. This makes long-term budget or tracking projects longer than a month a little less straightforward. This is fine for someone already experienced at budgeting short/long term, but if you are trying to learn financial management basics, use a different tool.

It’s helped make tracking money super easy, if you are on the fence give it a try. You can link various accounts into this app.

We pay a premium for a premium product. You begin to add new features to a premium tier that we paid to fun the development of. Also that is paired with business features that I won’t get any value from for multiples of my current premium price = terrible.

As a long time fan of mint the similarities are wonderful but too much gets lost in the weeds as the app tries to get innovative. Finances are complicated enough, can we please just get a straightforward app? The automated expenses are surprisingly not user friendly (esp considering mortgage payments). Slick graphs without numbers on them seem good for the graphics team but less so for people just wanting to track their money and seeing it easily in one space. Simplify please!

I’ve tried several financial tracking/budgeting apps over the years, and this is the first one I’ve stuck with. Intuitive, clean, easy to change categories or make adjustments, the rules actually stick - highly recommend!

They really need to update their game on syncing all your accounts in real time. And pending transactions should show up instead of not being counted.

This was a great app, but locking forecasting behind an absurdly priced Plus tier with other irrelevant features is a joke. Will be looking to move away as this is a very bad sign the company has no clue how to segment their product.

Love how visual things are and how easy it was to connect accounts. My biggest issue is that you spend time categorizing your recurring transactions…. But there isn’t anyway to include them in your budget. So you have to manually add all your recurring items as individual budget items. It feels unnecessarily complicated and disconnected. I would love to “add recurring expense to budget”.

I downloaded this on my iPad. On sign in I selected with sign in with my Apple account because that’s what I thought I used for my login credentials. Lo and behold, that’s not the case, as it prompted me to buy a subscription or start a trial (I already pay for this app). At this point I realized it must not be under my Apple account but simply under my email. Unfortunately for me, there’s no way to sign out or otherwise go back to the login screen without starting the trial, buying a subscription, or deleting the app, re-downloading it, and selecting login via email. Absolute madness.

Adding new features that should be in the base app behind expensive pay walls, very disappointed in the ethics of this company, especially after they got caught running fake ads last year for features which didn’t even exist. I cancelled my subscription there are better options

I’m concerned that Monarch is working to increase fees by rolling half baked features into Monarch Plus and charging $200 for it.

Monarch has been great for us. I've recommended it to friends and family. But now, there are two things that drops my review from a 5 star to a 2 star. First problem. They have decided to gatekeep new features to Monarch behind a new $299/year tier, 3x the price of the now "core" product, despite them promising the features to everyone. I would not have sneered at a mild price increase as compared to the competition it is a premium product. But $300/year is absolutely nuts if we even want to look at forecasting or investment analysis. This is the writing on the wall for Monarch, as now they have ZERO incentive to bring any new features to $99 subscription tier. Additionally, transactions are now arbitrarily changing merchants. The original statement is the same as it always has been, they seem to have some AI changing the merchant for reasons? This messes up transfers and any other transaction rules that were set EXACTLY right a few months ago. Even if you have rules this AI process will IGNORE them. Why have rules then??

Been using Monarch with a financial advisor for the last year. Core features have been pretty good. Have appreciated security-minded and ad-free experience. Participated in beta and by their own admission, they rushed out these new features and behind a $299 paywall. Forecasting should be part of Core or a slightly higher tier but not a tier that includes business functionality. I really wanted to like forecasting but rushing it out in the basic state and then charging extra for it has changed my view of Monarch.

STOP BEING EVIL! The reason for a consumer to pay a subscription fee is you get support and product/feature updates. But you take our money, use it to build new features, then hide it behind an ADDITIONAL paywall. Despicable.

It takes a bit of effort to connect everything and label everything at first, but well with the effort and the easy buttons and step by step walk through make it easy. I appreciate the visuals and how much customization of dashboard views there is. I could build my own AI variant of this, but I prefer leveraging all the well through features, security, and maintence this app offers.

Monarch has rolled out a new “plus” version for an addition $200 per year. Forecasting should have been a feature in the core product. Also now the app has ads when one of their core marketing claims is no ads. Very disappointed and might look into a new finance tracking app

Not bad for tracking basic transactions. The issue is that they will continue to ask for more money without actually shipping complete features.

Monarch is a decent aggregator and was heading in a direction I liked, but with the new Plus tier subscription it now gates core features like retirement planning behind a $299/year price tag and lumps them in with business features. Thats quite expensive compared to competitors in the retirement planning space and it sets a bad precedent where I don’t trust that future development efforts will be equitably distributed to those on the $99/year non-Plus subscription.

What a waste of money on an early subscription. This app has a lot of issues and honestly feels like it’s still in beta. After I resubscribed (and there’s basically no value in the free tier), I had to manually disconnect each account and add them all over again. The sync frequency is also very poor. I still have to rely on other apps like Copilot to get faster updates. I raised these concerns with customer support, but didn’t receive any meaningful explanation.

I loved the feature of being able to see transactions at a glance. It had worked so well for us when we started using it. Then come the duplicate transactions, that not happened once, but multiple times. At first I’d manually fix it, but then it got to the point that I was expecting duplicate transactions in the future and to not trust the app. If it didn’t have this duplicate transaction issue, I’d still continue with this app.

The app is the greatest investment I’ve made and it makes tracking and managing money so simple!

I’m very pleased with the features and product this far. I’d love to see a way to scan in a recipe as a PDF!

I used Mint for many years and was very sad to see it go away. Monarch set up easy, seemed more intuitive and had professional role access which is huge for our business. I love the reviews, AI queries, professional reporting, slick UI, flexible labeling. 6 months in and I couldn’t be happier.

$12.99 might not seem expensive compared to a meal at McDonald’s, but one thing I really hated about the app was how delayed the sync with my bank accounts was. I could make a deposit, and the app still wouldn’t update for hours. If I’m going to waste time refreshing the app, I might as well just check my bank and credit card accounts individually instead.

Mint’s cash flow charts were still superior than what’s Monarch right now (April 2026), which has poor scaling. Monarch cannot connect to my work’s 401k AT ALL (lifeatwork portal) and it hasn’t been able to maintain a connection to my Nordstrom card for over a year.

I’ve been using Monarch for a bit now, and it’s honestly one of the better personal finance apps I’ve tried. The first thing that stood out to me was how easy it is to use. What I initially thought was a pretty useful product, helping me to organize my finances and manage a budget, has turned into a nightmare. For the last 4 months, Monarch is hallucinating transactions. I spent a lot of time reviewing my statements and working with my financial institutions to verify that the transactions don’t exist. I’ve been going back and forth with support, a useless person named Juvy Ann S, for a month, with no info and no fix. I never get more than one response per day, and sometimes there are multiples of days between responses, causing this to drag out without resolution. All I get are empty apologies. I’m done being patient. I need a fix or a refund. Let me ask your this: How do you trust a product that creates fake transactions?

This app has been immensely valuable to my wife and I. Customer service was great for a billing issue we experienced due to my mistake

It shows too many incorrect duplicate charges

The fixed, flexible, and goal budgeting features have been an absolute game changer! This is the first time I feel like I actually have a handle on our finances and financial health.

My wife and I moved to Monarch after Mint got sunset. It’s been even better! I love the budgeting and forecasting tools. They make managing monthly budgets a breeze.

I do not like that the income/spending bars are not a better representation of your money. The spreadsheet I made and still work with shows me progress better than Monarch. The random glitches are annoying like not showing me my “to be reviewed” bar but the space is there so I reset my app for it to show. Some accounts need manual refreshing and new access constantly Altogether though I really love this app

I was looking for a relatively cheap option to budget my monthly income based on categories because I got too lazy to keep entering everything into my spreadsheet. I love that monarch does exactly that

I really like this app because of its features and overall practicality. It does take a little time to learn and explore, but once you get familiar with it, it’s extremely convenient. Being able to see all of my finances in one place instead of jumping between multiple apps is a huge plus.

Like the app and it does a decent job auto sorting charges. I like that once I fix the category it will continue to do it as a rule. However, it’s not smart enough to pull paychecks or bills from the end of the month (ex. Jan 29th) to the next month if those are early or fall before a weekend. Messes everything up and I have to auto sort it all which gets exhausting. Same goes for having to reconnect my bank every month. I know that’s probably not Monarch’s fault but I probably won’t renew my subscription because of it.

Unable to add payment. The card I added says declined but nothing hits my bank, no decline. I tried contacting support in app but get nowhere. I'd love to signup and give it a real go but I'm blocked right at the front door. Too bad

I would have given 5 stars, but lately I’ve been getting crashes, fails to refresh, and general bugginess that is unacceptable with their price tag. I’ve got the latest iPhone - how can you guys not be QAing your changes. We don’t need new features we need reliability

I work for a company that provides service that I have a monthly bill for, but that I also receive a biweekly pay paycheck from and Monarch could not differentiate between a recurring expense from a same company as I get a recurring paycheck from the same company. Highly disappointing.

I like the program, but it’s really stupid when I want to use the AI assistant the keyboard Block it, and there’s nothing I can do why don’t you put the screen that I typed in at the top of the keyboard won’t block it something to be able to move the keyboard

It has some cool stuff like the Amazon option to categorize your transactions but fails on dealing with data. I imported my statements since it does not load into Older than 3 months and the. When I synced accounts, all my categorizations are gone. Support is not available. It is changing rapidly. I just wish they would focus on SOLIDIFYING currents features before releasing shiny new ones

This app is supposed to help you with financial planning and budgeting. It even offers to help you find unnecessary subscriptions and expenses to cancel. That makes it very odd that the entice you to sign up for the free trial, and then they bill you with no notification or message that your free trial is ending. If this were truly a good and useful app, they would notify you, and then you would opt in to paying for the app because it’s that good! Instead it’s just a hypocritical marketing scam that signifies the exact problem they tell you they will help you solve.

I loved the intuit budgeting app that they disabled and haven’t been able to find anything that compares until this. This is a a lot more detailed and I get the budget the way I’ve wanted to for so long. It is worth every penny!

I use Monarch for personal since the ending of 2025. Once my digital consulting firm went into starting phases of building, Monarch was no question in incorporating it as the financial tool to actually help my business keep organized, track all business + personal simultaneously = NO APP SWITCHING, NO CONFUSION. Building accuracy during the starting phase of any business is one root indicator if it’ll be successful or not. I have no doubts the way I have incorporated Monarch will help my business’ finances structured to success. 🍀

The app is so user friendly that it has made me really enjoy budgeting! Usually I get so frustrated with the budgeting apps because they never seem to work right, but we’ve used Monarch now for almost a year and it’s been seamless, and has really helped us identify where our money goes, set goals, etc.

A must for everyone that wants to know where they spend their money and better manage it. Well worth every penny.

I love Monarch so much. My budgeting has improved ever since I got it. Their team is responsive via email and takes feedback well. I can’t stop recommending them to everyone. It’s so damn good.

Over many years I’ve searched for an app which combines account integration, transaction tracking and powerful budgeting and this is it. Putting aside the Sankey Diagram which seems to be their main pitch, the budgeting tool is fantastic compared to similar platforms and the Amazon addin to gather order details and apply coding based on the product category is incredibly useful if you or your partner order frequently from Amazon. While there is room for improvement (the full web interface is much stronger than the app IMO), I am amazed at the usefulness and clarity the platform provides.

When accounts are synced, the account balance is updated and accurate, but transactions take up to 24 hrs to sync to match the balance of the account. A help ticket was opened with product support and they dismissed this as an issue. The claim of only having to use this one app and not multiple apps to keep a curated stat on your banking is false until this issue is fixed.

Please make reports as in the web version in the application

I’m a software developer and typically like building my own micro applications so I can manage my own data and limit features to what I use, but monarch is such an amazing app I couldn’t image ever replacing it. I’ve tried all of the finance apps and monarch is the most pain-free IMO

Great app but need the ability to split transactions into different categories

This app is great. It works. It’s simple. But still really powerful. Hopefully it gets even better and sticks around for a long time. That’s why I am doing my part and writing a great review. I use it to track my subscriptions, credit card balances/transactions and also to scan in receipts and tag business expenses for end of year reports.

I want to love it, but it’s frustrating. I keep wanting to do things on mobile that are only available in the desktop version and only finding out after wasting time searching for a feature. I’ve also had issues with my API connections constantly dropping and needing to reconnect thru a different data provider, then needing to take an extra step to transfer the activities and edit history for all those transactions. I also can’t figure out how to make my budget the same for all future months and have needed to manually add a budget every month. I only want to think about my financial questions, not waste brain power just making the app work consistently. Should only offer reliable API connections to begin with and work on creating a more consistent experience across desktop and mobile. I also don’t appreciate all my help needs being forced through AI and conversational/agentic design black holes. How do I talk to a human being at Monarch? Aside from these key issues I enjoy using it and find it much less slow and buggy than Rocket. However, I may cancel due to the admin overhead needed. I wish I could get a partial refund after automatically being put on an annual plan.

I signed up for a one week free trial and cancelled before it was up. I was still charged the $99.99 yearly fee and there is no one to talk to re se the charge. Please tell me who to contact!

I’ve tried just about all of the personal finance management solutions. Monarch takes about the lease TLC to keep it going. I want something to give me a nice Birdseye view of my entire financial picture and this does the trick!

I have been a YNAB fanatic for years (and I do like that system), but it was starting to become burdensome to keep everything reconciled, and we were no longer in a position where we had debt to pay off. After getting Monarch set up, it has blown me away with how hands-off it is, yet it creates a whole picture of your finances. I feel way more in the know, and it feels like my financial data is empowering me instead of burdening me. The ability to compare this month’s spending against an average month at a glance tells me if I am on track or not. Also, the built-in AI assistant is great. Honestly, nothing bad to say about this app.

Overall I love this app, however I’ve had some issues where when I try to open the app it just shows blank screen and not signing in. I have to restart multiple times for the login to initiate. Also the recurring transactions don’t allow me to split 2 transactions from the same provider into different budget categories like Verizon internet or phone so I always have to double check my bills to see when I’m due for either. Other than that minimal issues with interface and budgeting program.

As the title suggests, I wish to track my 401k with human interest and that integration has been “working on it” for a year. Everything else is just lovely.

Great app

This is the budgeting tool for ex-Dave Ramsey $0 balance budgeters who live in the real world and need to give every dollar a job but may not put them to work each month. The budgeting flexibility and automation is top notch and shareable to multiple users. The ONLY issue I have—but a big one—is that the synched bank transactions do not import in real time if they did this would be the best tool by far on the market. Monarch support (which is really helpful) says it’s my bank that doesn’t release the pending transactions. My bank shares pending transactions with every other banking software I use and says they do for Monarch too. I’ve also checked with friends who use monarch and bank at different banks and they have the same problem. That said, I signed up for the year and it’s helping me stick to a budget and reach our goals so I’m keeping it, it’s just a little slow.

Awful interface, could not get in to app, and customer service was unhelpful with refund, after Apple Pay was unable to refund, they gave me the runaround and then ghosted me. Waste of $100

No joke, using Monarch has changed our financial lives. The monthly budgeting alone is a game changer, but it's also really helpful to view & manage our whole net worth in one place. It seems like on the lay six months the auto-categorization of transactions has gotten worse, but not enough for me to consider something else.

Came over from Mint and this app seems to have the best UI than the others. There is a learning process and it’s not as intuitive as Mint, but it does a pretty good job. I’d give it 5 stars if it were free or less expensive. Otherwise there are some operations that don’t work smoothly and for something you pay a subscription for you think it’d be a better. Update: I have been using this app a few years now and it has saved my family much more money than the cost of the subscription. The ability to easily and accurately track our spending in real time has helped us become much more aware of unnecessary expenses. The UI has improved and watching our trends year over year is encourages us to stay on track and focus on long term goals.

I have gone through 20 different budgeting apps to find a replacement to Mint because Credit Karma totally nuked it. I have had no problem linking accounts to Monarch, but always have problems with Rocket Money, Credit Karma, etc. I hate to pay for a subscription, especially for a budgeting app (seems kind of against the idea of good budgeting). But I did and it has been well worth it!

This is by far the best money management app all around.

I was devoted mint user. Not happy at first due to customer service. But it’s really improved.

It feels like the app is working less smoothly recently and there are just too many additional things being added that it’s gotten busy. Focusing on the core user experience and performance there would be appreciated.

The app isn’t very user friendly or intuitive. Most linked accounts are synced regularly, a few do not sync-Chase Bank has not synced in over a month. Monarch’s manual input option for transactions on those unsynced accounts does not update the reflected balance. I don’t think the app is adding value, rather just adding more stress. I was expecting help with budgeting to tackle liabilities and regularly connectivity to linked accounts. All this app is good for is seeing your accounts in one place.

App icon customization not working

Maybe this works great on standard checking accounts but I use a brokerage account for most of my financial needs. For some reason this confuses monarch. I get duplicate transactions all the time and I have to manually categorize everything. Definitely does not live up to the hype for me

I switched from Mint to Monarch. I was initially skeptical about the pricing, but it quickly showcased its value. This app is well designed and shows you an overall picture of your financial health. The reporting is great and the categorization is fantastic. Being able to have two independent household members is great. It handles credit card transactions without duplicating charges. Overall, it’s a great app and would recommend to anyone who is serious about getting their financials in order.

There are just too many connection issues for this to be worth the money. None of my investment accounts will stay connected. Also, it’s unable to recognize recurring transactions. I have highway tolls that I paid once two years ago that keep getting flagged as recurring, but it doesn’t recognize my Spotify streaming service as one.

After using Mint religiously for 10+ years I was devastated when they announced they were doing away with the product — that was until I found Monarch. Not only was there an option to import the 10+ years of history, I also found Monarch to have all of the features I love from Mint, but more importantly, a ton of new features I absolutely love. I’ve shared Monarch with many friends. If you’re looking for a budgeting tool and financial tracker, look no further.

Exactly what I was hoping for and more. My only issue is not their fault. It is PayPals. This product does everything it claims and more. Do the trial and then buy the annual. Worth every penny.

I used to calculate my net worth manually into a homemade spreadsheet. It took me about 25-30 minutes. Monarch has automated 98% of it and I am able to check in monthly to see how my net worth is doing. This app has paid for itself just in the time it has saved me for the net worth calculations.

The recently added extension which automatically categorizes my Amazon and Target transactions is a game changer. I used to spend a good hour per month sorting our Amazon grocery purchases from home stuff from books… no longer. Well worth paying for a subscription.

I used to use mint. I run the finances for my family. We also have 2 Businesses we run through the app. It is efficient, effective, and saves time. The software makes categorizing purchases a breeze. This also has a family member addition so you and significant other can monitor progress together.

Is just what are you looking for, sometimes is a bit slow about synchronization with the credit cards but other that super helpful.

Really enjoying using this app and the ability to track all my expenses and accounts into one singular place! Getting insights into this has really helped me understand my spending and has allowed me to budget better

It’s disappointing that they are not able to leverage adding new connections with their vendors specifically when they have subscription services.

I tried this app at a friends suggestion but for over a week I’ve been unable to connect to my primary bank. I’ve reached out through support several times and no one has gotten back to me.

Monarch is hands down the most comprehensive budgeting app I have ever used. I switched from Rocket Money to Monarch, and haven't looked back!

This budget app is extremely helpful to keep track of all your different lines of money, in and out, savings, loans, mortgage, investments etc. one stop shop for me and hubby to look at and discuss.

This is the best budgeting app I’ve ever used! It’s particularly easy to categorize and edit transactions, get an easily digestible view of what your recurring transactions are. Overall, I love how the lack of friction makes it easier to stick with the habit of consistently using it — coming from someone who struggles with self-discipline. My wife and I have used it to make some well informed decisions that at this point are saving us about $100/mo, which makes it well worth the price. Highly recommend!

The layout is great. Execution, no thanks. About every few months, i get about 50-100 doublicate transactions, and it blows up my whole budget. Some items are doublicated, but sone arent. It takes about 45 minutes to clean it up, but its never perfect. Also, when a transaction goes from pending to not-pending, they system oftentimes forgets what category you out it in, and changes it to a random one. So you have to constantly check that the system hasn’t undone all your work. ive started leaving my transactions un-reviewed until they are no longer pending.

Highly recommend! I needed a money tracking platform for a side business and I also have a gazillion credit cards. This has credit cards helpful for budgeting. It’s also easy to create your own categories. He couldn’t recommend it more.

Easy to set up and once set up it encourages you to look at all your financials once a month

I’m a paying customer and they have embedded Facebook tracker in their app. I don’t feel comfortable with this. I’m sure plaid and others sell your data. But something about paying an app generous amount of money and them having trackers from one of the most aggressive/creepy data collecting company feels wrong

Monarch is my absolute favorite app for my budgeting and finances overall. I’ve told everyone in my circle to start using it because it’s totally worth it. However, the last Goals update is terrible. I’m sorry but I really enjoyed the standard basic goals tracking before the bells and whistles that are not only confusing, but bugged af 😂 I reported many issues in the beta version and I wish there’s a way to get out of it and go back to the old method. You guys are doing great! I will be an affiliate for Monarch one day

I’ve been tracking my finances for years but it’s never been this fast or accurate. I set up my account very quickly. I never miss a transaction. And I manage everything with a few clicks on my phone.

I am impressed how Monarch grabbed all my expenses and put them into reasonably good categories. I was able to do some customization and I’m pretty familiar with it after a month. I’m really liking it so far.

I love the Every Dollar app, but it couldn't track my Apple charges. So, I searched for another app and found Monarch. I didn't expect much, just tracking all expenses in one place, but it exceeded my expectations. It's an amazing app I enjoy, accessible both from the app and online, providing great information. Just wow 🤩

I’m still on the free trial. The UI is beautiful and I’ve put lots of energy into setting it up but I won’t continue to paid subscription if the app crashes every time I try to move $ between categories based on my own preference rather than the suggested option.

Started off perfectly, Now it duplicates transactions(not all) which destroys effectiveness of product. Not sure how to fix. This is a response to the nonresponse from Monarch. Sent me a link to submit my concerns which of course does not work. What now?

Been using this app for about 3 years. It’s a great way to see ALL your accounts in one place, to understand where your money is going, to get a grip on your budget. Moreover, the devs are genuinely responsive and continue to make improvements. Yes, it’s not free, but that just means your info is not for sale. That privacy is important.

I have been using iFinance for more years than I can remember, then I switched about a year ago to Copilot Money (what a bloody headache!), started seeing ads for Monarch so I thought give it a try. So far it’s just alright. I REALLY dislike how the Recurring Expenses works. I have multiple monthly subscriptions with Apple and instead of having Apple setup as a merchant/business then adding the 3 or 4 subscriptions as recurring I can’t took me about 2 hours to find out that that’s not allowed?!?! I had to create a merchant for each individual subscription and create the recurring event from there using the different merchants which invalidates my ability to run a report every year to show what is spent and when it was charged. Also it crashes ALL the time I just deleted the app on my iPad and use the web browser to do everything. One thing I really like is the AI Chat bot. Once I learned how to find it, it definitely assisted me with things. With that being said I truly do hope that Monarch allows for single merchants to have multiple recurring events soon! I would have definitely given this a 5/5 if that were the case. Still looking for a single app that can do this plus I can setup bill pay on it and do all my investment trades and purchasing from within it and communicating with the main company to get the requests done. But I am thinking the costs would be excessive for something like that.

One of the most egregious ways to force people into a subscription. I understand that a trial period exists but for someone returning to try out their app after a year it wouldn’t let me even switch tabs or click on a single thing without asking to enter into a subscription. Like what is the point of an app if you cannot use any part of it without a subscription. Very scamy tactics.

I was blind but now I see. Such a great way of visualizing where every dollar is going month to month. Love that it connects to Apple Card, wish I’d gotten this 5 years sooner.

I was a 10 year user of Mint and had come to the point that I couldn’t live without the convenience it gave me in managing all of my accounts. I was super bummed when they shut down. I tried several other free apps, but came to find Monarch was the only one that had all the customization and graphical presentation that I wanted. The price isn’t cheap, but for me it is worth the convenience it gives.

I’ve tried 10+ budgeting apps and this is the one I’ve stuck with for the last 5 years.

I enjoy the app and it has made tracking expenses easy, particularly compared with other budget tools I’ve used. My only complaint at this point is the lack of functionality with goals (especially debt pay down). It gives projections of total payoff date, but doesn’t show when each contributing piece will be paid down. Additionally, you can’t allocate “monthly expenses” to debt pay down.

Monarch is incredible! Worth every penny—It’s the best budgeting app my spouse and I have found. It easily syncs all our accounts and categorizes everything efficiently. It’s helped us realize where we were overspending so we could easily save for our goals. Highly recommend!

This sort of app only works if it can actually sync with your bank accounts. But connections are constantly failing, and sometimes Monarch just stops being able to log in with your bank altogether. Unfortunately, customer service is non-existent and you’re just stuck with an AI Chatbot that only knows the FAQ page. For $100/year, you’d think you’d get a product that does at least the bare minimum

For what I need in tracking personal finances, Monarch does everything. Everything Monarch does, it does well. No bugs, no glaring feature misses, and no forced workarounds to smooth things out. It eases the hard work of tackling personal finances with my family. The website and app work on concert with each other to feel platform independent yet native on each. While this costs money, I would MUCH RATHER be the customer than the product. It is well worth the money. When support is needed, their team is on top of it. If support is needed, it’s likely because of the underlying data brokers. It’s amazing that you have control/options in this space as Plaid vs MX isn’t an option with others. This is the necessary evil with any personal finances tracking tool, and they struck the perfect balance. Highly recommend. They’re sharpening a razor with this product.

It has NONE of the important features that are available online. They need to hire people who can make the other features appear on the app

I never write reviews for literally anything... but this app has served me incredibly well over the past year. Regardless of where you consider yourself to land on the financial literacy scale, Monarch is by far one of (if not) the best tools out there for personal financial management and its not even close. I urge anyone who’s either just getting started on their financial journey or deep in the weeds and looking for a true one-stop shop for all income and expense tracking / budgeting to give this platform a try. It’s easy to use and has a great UI (user interface). Like anything else, it takes a little time to learn how to get the most out of it, but the entire app is extremely user-friendly. You have the ability to track essentially every dollar that comes in and every dollar that goes out. Budgeting, transaction tracking, spending trends, investment performance, and embedded AI functionality that acts as a quick, intuitive tour guide for your entire financial picture — including highlighting trends it’s seeing across your income and expenses. I could go on and on, but the single most beneficial thing I’ve gained from this app over the past year is honestly a peace of mind. Finances are hard. Investing is complicated. And budgeting can feel like rocket science at times. Monarch figured out a way to aggregate your entire financial picture and is constantly improving / expanding the product as they roll new features out to their users. If you’re serious about taking the next step forward in managing your money, I strongly encourage anyone reading this review to start here. And if you’re already far along in your journey but still haven’t found the right tool yet… Welcome home.

This app was suggested from a finance guru’s podcast. He undersold it for sure. I downloaded app, connected bank,& viola learned I’ve been spending over $300 every month without enjoyment. By that I mean they were subscriptions I signed up for and never used post the one week trial. The issue was most had a label that was similar so scrolling through my bank account I assumed it was Apple fees. This app can email you graphs and there’s more to do online with it. I cannot express this enough— try it. Best part, when my free trial subscription was nearing the end and I’d be charged: THEY EMAILED ME! They upfront said it’s ending. And there’s a cancel subscription button in the email. Who does that?! Get the app. Try it. No regrets.

I heard about this app from a financial advisor (who was not sponsored by Monarch) who recommended to someone they were advising in a YouTube video. It peaked my interest because up to this point I did everything longhand in an Excel spreadsheet using many formulas. Nothing wrong with the spreadsheet, but with retirement within 2 decades for me, I wanted to figure out a way to get a snapshot of my current finances plus a snapshot on how I’m tracking towards my financial goals on essentially the same screen, with maybe some added features and ways to customize it like I’ve done with my spreadsheets. I found out Monarch did all the things I was needing and it’s interesting to use the AI assistant who can crunch the numbers and give me trend information. I also like the feature to be able to share access with my spouse so they can better track along with the finances. My favorite feature though is how the app can detect and help you setup recurring bill notices and show you how you’ve spent your income by categories.

I like the reports feature and the ability to track investments. Setting up a budget could be improved. Also, what’s up with having to create a new account every time a link gets broken? With other apps I just need to update passwords, etc. with no need to create a new account.

From all the great reviews I thought this app would be easy to set up. Boy was I wrong. I am trying to add accounts and the app tells me that they are have been added successfully, but they are not showing up in the account list. I cannot figure out how to get help.

I’ll start by saying like many, I don’t like subscriptions. It’s seems like we have more and more monthly bills. So paying a subscription cost for an app to help budget and track/save money seems counterintuitive. If you want reliable money tracking software that doesn’t sell your data Monarch is the way to go. If connects to every account I have tried. There are no ads and I can trust the company does no need to sell my information because their financial model is transparent. You pay a fee for well written and maintained software. So it you want to cut down subscriptions I would suggest dumping some of those streaming services and keep this one that actually helps you track your financial information.

Connection is terrible does not give an update status of bank account it has been on the same status for two days and it still has not changed (the apps says updated just now) but the information is not valid because it doesn’t change. Credit cards link ok but my checking and savings doesn’t link properly.

I enjoy the fact that their tags in their categories and their rules. I would really just love it if Monarch could expose a software development kit or an API or an MCP server of some sort that would allow developers to perhaps build automations on top of this, it is really really helpful for us to be able to automatically create categories and tags that would be really, really beneficial.

So far Monarch has been an absolute joy to work with. The UX is really well thought out. The ability to search, filter, and make updates to transactions is easy. The reports and ability to drill down is eye opening. I also don’t feel like I need to maintain it in the accounting sense. Once they figure out a few issues with the Goals beta it’s going to be great.

My husband and I both set up accounts but were unable to link them. We asked for refunds and could not get them.

My Chase accounts have been disconnected for about a week and haven’t been able to reconnect. I reached out to the customer support multiple times. After the initial reply, they always stop responding and I’m left with the useless app. I’m canceling the subscription.

Best financial app I have ever used, I’ve tried many. Easy to use; really allows you to see where you’re spending money as well as budget at the same time. Highly recommend!

I really like the app as it keeps me in sync with all my accounts and investments and spending trends. I would like some more report formats and a way to look at account balances after each transaction and a report that could show month any statement balances for a specific month. The rest of the app works great and it has a good built in AI to give you answers to question using your account data.

Chose this app for investment connection- frequent issues with connections on multiple accounts. Had to delete and reinstall data-wondering if the juice is worth the squeeze on this.

Generally the user experience is positive, worth having it. 3 items to be improved: 1) some accounts updates have delay. You have to check yourself in the bank’s apps which is inconvenient 2) Frequently asks me to re-login to Fidelity, a couple times per week 3) the app has incorrect categories for income and expenses. I have to manually fix that every month.

I tried Quicken after Mint went away but it wasn’t anywhere close to the functionality and UX Mint had. Somehow, Monarch is 10x better than Mint! You can see your entire financial picture in one convenient place. Highly recommend!

The connections are not stable enough and by the time they break you have already paid for the app and are stuck with a broken product

no matter what, the fidelity connect doesn’t work. it says “success” on the fidelity side but it never shows up in monarch

The connections are too flaky. The recent ‘oops we don’t have that connection’ on a Zion’s Bank loan, a loan I’ve been tracking for over a year now was the last straw. Using new retirement is much more reliable. They obviously are not focusing on their connections and are investing in useless AI tools that are worse than the first version of chat gpt.

Monarch has the reputation it does for a good reason – it's a fantastic platform. Monarch is intuitive to use, has clear, easy to comprehend dashboards, and has a well-thought-out interface, overall.

I really love the app and think they did a great job. There are consistently some financial institution connections that break, which is pretty frustrating.

this app has net worth connected to all my accounts. Updates Everything automatically. Lets me see spending habits. Let me budget takes all of my finances into one app where I can view anything I want from retirement account accounts, savings accounts, value of my house and cars it’s great. I recommend it.

Solid app - not user friendly but functionally fine. 3 months ago the fidelity sync broke, no updates or solution. Odd that I’m paying $15/month for something that connects to only half my stuff. Planning to switch apps

I know connections to financial institutions in Monarch are brokered by services Monarch works with (e.g. Plaid) and not Monarch itself, but I don’t pay an annual fee to those services, I pay an annual fee for Monarch. As part of that fee I expect the service to improve over time. The connections to my financial institutions have not improved over time, they’ve even degraded some, and Monarch needs to push its connection brokers to make improvements.

Its an excellent apps 100% pluss

Been using Monarch for a few months now. I’m impressed with the update frequency and release notes. Props to the product and engineering teams for running a smooth ship.

I want to love this app. The UI is great. But the updates to accounts can take several days, even when manually pushing updates. In order to budget efficiently, you need to be able to see your info sooner than days later. Transactions end up missing. For a paid app and its price point, this is unacceptable. Bummed that this is so problematic because I like everything else about the app but without correct function, it becomes useless.

I used Monarch for about a year. When I felt I had everything under control, I stopped paying and deleted my account. Guess what? After another year without it, I decided to come back because I lost control of my expenses again and ended up burning way more money than I tried to save by quitting.

Used Mint, YNAB, my own excel, etc. This is by far the most comprehensive and a pleasure to use. I get so much enjoyment out of this, being able to see the whole picture.

I like the setup, but the disconnecting that happens from my checking account is really annoying.

With many accounts scattered with differing institutions it is nice to have a one stop shop.

Can’t even link Chase credit card. Makes you commit to subscription before you can even use the app then they bury the button to cancel the subscription in the desktop version. Bad app, bad company.

Have used similar services in the past. They all have issues with connectivity. This one is no different. I’m shocked by all the positive reviews. First account I tried to sync (Fidelity) immediately with errors. And the app keeps flipping back and forth between the mobile app and the browser with neither syncing.

We’ve tried several budgeting apps and tools. Monarch is by far the best! Extremely user friendly, but very in-depth. It makes budgeting easy, and visual. See where all your money is going, and get a plan together. Would recommend this app to everyone who is looking to keep track of their finances.

I have tried multiple budget tools over the years and Monarch is by far my favorite!!!!

I don’t expect the external APIs being used to always work, so this is not I have an issue with. What I am extremely disappointed about is that transactions appear and then can disappear days/weeks/months later without you knowing and there’s no warning. Especially with features like rollovers, these become basically useless if you cannot trust any of the totals you’re given and also have no way of checking it besides combing through the accounts manually. I don’t understand why transactions that used to appear disappear is allowed to happen at all? Why is there no snapshotting? Seems like whatever is synced just wipes away the previous data (which… WHY?!). I am looking less and less likely that I will renew given these baffling design choices.

The chatbot persuaded me not to upgrade my car

I personally found this app difficult to use, it sounds great on the surface and in all the positive reviews but it doesn’t do what I expected.

I try everything looks for something life changing, and this has changed our lives. It save time, and make everything easy and clear.

I was enjoying this app and originally downloaded to help with my financial goals for the year. I signed up for the free 7 day trial, they sent me an email letting me know that my trial was about to end and they were going to charge me $100 which I appreciated the notification. After changing my subscription from the annual plan for $100 to the $15/mo. Plan a day before my trial ended, I was still charged $100 AND $15…. Very disappointed!

I was a long time mint user and after Credit karma bought Mint and I didn’t like what they did so I switched to copilot for the year. I found it to be inaccurate in categorizing stuff so at the beginning of the year, I switched to Monarch and I have to say that it is leaps and bounds better than Copilot
