Looks very useful although to signup accounts should have a checklist option to exclude specific accounts. For instance CapitalOne is migrating many Discover accounts to CapitalOne. Thus would be useful to exclude specific accounts that will be. Otherwise they’ll disappear from Discover login. However am very disappointed password reset doesn’t work in fact worse it locked my account. Seems was never tested in fact should have been caught by defect tools. What happens is the unlock email just sends the user to the signin page which of course doesn’t have a field to change the password so locks. Is web site 101 that unlock email should send the user to a new password page. Worse is Saturday evening so have to wait until Monday morning to call support. Worse the error message doesn’t give the support number to call to unlock. I had to google to get the support number. Nice.

This app is garbage just like Empower itself

Great app to access company retirement accounts

I have not been able to open this app even once since I downloaded it, it just keeps crashing!

After initially setting up the account I forgot my password, and after that was not able to reset it and log back in despite following their instructions for doing so

I’ve had to call customer service several times, just improve the app and make it user friendly! Look at how easy Target corporations app is!!

Everyone I go into the loan screen to request a loan, the screen continuously has the loading bars and flickers. It’s been going on for awhile now. Please fix

This app lacks a solid user experience to make it easy to work in. The facial recognition login only works after a second attempt consistently. The scroll bar to manage contributions works fine on the % option but trying to define a specific $ amount contribution, it is horrible. After spending 5is minutes fiddling with it, I still was never able to set the exact $ contribution I need. Why I can’t type that in instead of selecting from scroll bar - who knows. I wish there was a way to save my preferred date range instead of always defaulting to the date range since the beginning of my account to current. And I really dislike that on my mobile device I have no option but to use the app. Trying to login to the website via mobile forces you into the app, which means I have to use my desktop to access the actual website. Definitely opportunity to improve basic quality of life functionality on this app.

Not happy with this company. This is the second time that Empower has lost my email address or deleted it even though I was using it every month. I thought about re-registering under a new email address, but I’m done with these people. I don’t run my business the way they run theirs and they just don’t seem to care. Hopefully, my sensitive data and passwords for my account is not being leaked and sold. I’m done!

Every time, after log in, the app force closes. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled several times, my OS is up to date. And you cannot log into the website from a mobile device. It forces me to use the app.

The app % contribution tool is broken. It doesn’t correctly forecast the pay period deduction. Splitting deduction percentages between 401k/roth also is broken. The old percentages remain even when the previous screen asks you to change the percentage. It’s a flow issue. The app incorrectly assumes my wife will retire 5 years before me even though her birthday shows she is 5 years younger and retiring at 67. The app does not have enough drill down capabilities. It’s ok but needs work.

The app freezes. It won’t load things. Over all not a great user interface.

App has glitches after each update saying Face ID is disabled. Checked the settings and it is on. Losing logins credentials all the time.

Empower is a shady company and would work with a more reputable firm such as Raymond James or Edward Jones if you need an advisor. Also this app is TRASH. It’s funny (or ironic) how certain features of the app such as requesting a rollover have never worked…hmm wonder why! If you’re looking for an IRA.. I’d go with Schwab.

FACE ID STILL DOESNT WORK 8/3/26 - 8/26/26 If you set a transaction to automatically change to something else and you did it even once accidentally, you're forever screwed. There is no way to fix it. Completely break your experience by fat fingering the wrong button. The fact that the devs have not thought out this scenario shows a true lack of foresight and turns an otherwise useful tool into a tedious task of data cleanup and custodial duties.

What happened this used to work with Mac IOS now it does not

Update: Face ID has now been broken for months. This has basically led to me not using the app anymore. Love this app for the most part. Over the years, since they bought Personal Capital, they’ve made the dashboard much quicker to update which is much appreciated. Love watching my net worth increase over time. However, ever since the Juneteenth update, Face ID has been broken, shoots an error message. Ironically, if I try to sign in with a password, which also uses Face ID, it signs in fine. But that takes more time and taps to do. The app also doesn’t sync with TSP anymore even after the 2-factor authentication. Please fix.

This app always freezes. I uninstalled it and tried again and it’s always the same or worse

It is easy to use. I love the app

The contribution increases are not taking affect as fast as they are selected. There needs to be a faster process.

I could not create a login as it kept saying I already had an account even though before today I never heard of this app. I gave up and uninstalled it. Garbage!

I love the app but I’ve been having some technical issues with it over the last couple weeks. It started with the app having issues connecting to and refreshing external accounts. Now I can even login. It’s giving me the “something went wrong” error and telling me to contact a representative.

Empower is god awful

I started with 83.00 with my Roth account now I’m up to 8,000 already , and I also needed fast cash and they helped me out , I had the money in about 3 days . I also just up my percentage of deductions and it was super simple just the press of a button. I lead a very busy life so the ease of using this app really helps . Thank you Empower

It is very tricky and do not have much options in the investment category.

I updated app and now am totally locked out if my it says i have the wrong password i know i dont because my phone auto saved my password. This is my first experience with empower and has not left a good first impression

After every few days face login problem. The developers need to be fired.

Does not update for Fidelity and numerous other institutions. If your brokerage firm clears through National Financial Services (NFS / Wealthscape) it will not work ‘customer service’ or the developers send out worthless precanned updates only when you request. They have blamed Yodlee since May and made zero progress. This thing belongs in the toilet. Clueless developers.

Been trying to withdrawal my funds on this app and it keeps getting stuck in a loop when it opens the page to start a request. It just keeps reloading a page that says to download the app.

Face ID has been broken for a while now

I am very disappointed with Customer Service. They gave me incorrect advice, sent incorrect forms, and gave incorrect information about how to complete forms. At another time, Empower sent me an email to contact them about my RMD, when I did so they were not able to establish what the email was about. When I further contacted them about the progress of my RMD dispersal, ( simple question), Customer Service was confusing, unclear, and unhelpful. They are very polite on the phone, however I would like to have correct information that I can feel comfortable and confident that they know what they are doing.

Empower is the best

Empower always makes it easy to rebalance my portfolio as well as offering great customer service and education! I was able to choose from a variety of options for my investments and change them efficiently. When I call, the representatives not only help me but educate me!

Honestly this app has been the most frustrating experience. As soon as you open the app it won’t even allow you look through it without giving all your banking details. Which it won’t allow me to connect and I’m using Chase bank! I’ve wasted every morning for the last week trying to access this stupid site. Online they just refer to their broken app. My employer uses this for our 401k and I can even look at it.

The app blocks login frequently when accessed from a different network, and when it does there is no way to fix it.

Don’t expect to be able to get help logged in to your account if you just happen to not remember your address. Even tho you know all the rest of your information.

Easy to use & representatives are always helpful

Used to be a 5 star app. Lately takes 3-4 times to login with FaceID, sometimes locks me out for the day for too many attempts.

There are constantly issues with balances updating, and even after reporting, they can never seem to resolve them. Now there is a bug that you can’t even log in. I have had an open ticket for almost a year now, every week or so they email to say they are still working on it and have no estimate on when it’ll be finished. Until they fix these major issues with their tech team, I recommend using another app.

The website is great!!

Any financial service that is down multiple times for multiple hours during business / trading hours is a garbage service. Avoid this company at all costs unless you enjoy having to pay for no access to your money.

I’ve used this app for years! I just received and email that there are changes to my account and that I need to sign in to see what said changes are. Nothing! It just sits there like it’s trying to connect but never does. The app is up to date and I have a newer phone. I’ve even tried uninstalling it and reinstalling the app, all to no avail.

In middle of the day, another outage. Please let me remove my money from here!

Used to get in fine until update that forces multi-factor auth. Now can not get in at all. Text message never occurs and call back fails (no texts or calls never happen). No option for email verification. Stuck and can not get in.

It’s extremely concerning that there was an update on this app 5 days ago and no one has been able to login, yet EMPOWER hasn’t felt the need to fix this. They also don’t allow you to login via their website so I am completely logged out of my account right now. Aside from the current (and completely baffling)issues.This app is too clunky and difficult to navigate. I’ve been using Fidelity from my previous employers for the last 15+ years and their app blows this one out of the water. So much more user friendly and intuitive. This app makes it way too hard to look at the simplest, yet necessary, info. You can’t easily see how much you’ve invested per year or pay check, growth per year, company contribution or really anything you want to see in one screen or dashboard. You can’t even go back to the previous screen or menu easily. This is by far the worst financial app I’ve ever used. Truly terrible design and functionality. Why anyone would CHOOSE to use this company to manage their money blows my mind. I will begin lobbying my company to move out retirement plans to a more competent and capable company. What a joke.

My goodness Empower is by far the worst banking institution that I’m enrolled in! Every other day I experience some technical problems with accessing my account. Whether it’s from mobile app or online using a browser. So bad! Stay away from them!

App always closes

The app might have nice features, but the font is too small to read on my iPhone. Support confirms you can’t make it bigger. If you’re trying to cater to senior citizens on how to manage their retirement, don’t you think you should make the font big enough to be readable?

Imposible ti update info and make changes in the fly, loads slow

They charge $150 fee for each request.

Overall I think it’s a good app for aggregating the various assets. However, at of a few weeks/updates ago I have lost the option to use FaceID to open the app and now requires a frequent manual login. I hope that Empower brings back this feature soon.

Empower ruined a great platform for personal finance tracking. The migration from Personal Capital broke my account, I cannot log in anymore. The password reset links do nothing. Their support team refuses to answer phone calls or help personal dashboard users. They entirely ghosted their legacy users. Somehow, they still find a way to spam my inbox with marketing offers daily. I legally demanded a full CCPA data deletion just to get away from them. Save yourself the headache and use Monarch or Simplifi instead.

This latest version from 7/1/26 crashes when my Planmember account sends the single sign-on tokens to the app on launch. Please resolve!

This app is terrible. I’ve received notifications and there is no way to access them in the app. The app forces you to log in using your app even when trying to log into Empower with a browser. And the actual notifications, once you get them are useless

A year or so ago when we were using the old app, I loved it. It was functional, reliable and never failed. Then they merged some things and we had to start using this new/other version and it's horrible. Logins fail, connections lose connection more frequently, and the accounts within the app is more clunky. For the love of all things holy, don't fix it if it's not broken. Let's go back to the old app that worked. This one is trash and the updates aren't helping. After the most recent update, I'm having more issues.

It won’t pass authentication. It keep asking me for data to renew my password or retrieve my login name while I have them and they work on the desktop website

Every time I login this app tells me I have a notification, but once I click it, Face ID interrupts taking me to the message so I have no idea what the notification is and I can’t find where they would be in the app. Additionally the app does not have a place to submit help besides a virtual assistant which never answers my questions.

App has gone way downhill since Empower took it over. Clearly a result of AI garbage code and corporate greed. Takes two taps to get Zillow to even load now, and Face ID doesn’t work. Everyone employed by this company should be ashamed of themselves.

After recent update the MFA doesn’t work for the Personal Dashboard account but it still working for 401K accounts. Very confusing and frustrating! Fix it please!

Who shuts down an app for over 1/2 a day or more making inaccessible to view your finances under the pretenses to improve the app. Even the offices are shut down. Not taking messages. Nothing. No ability to link with someone if something ‘shady’ going on with account.

I check Empower daily. I’ve been having account connection issues for a long time but still have found it mostly useful. Today I updated the app and I simply cannot login at all. They need to patch this up or I’m going to have to jump ship on this app. I’ve been using it forever and it’s only gotten worse with time. Too bad.

Unable to log in

The app worked great until I was forced to install an “update”. Since updating, the app is defunct and worthless. Can’t login. Face ID doesn’t work. The field to manually enter the password is locked and no password can be entered. The help line phone number is also worthless because I am semi-hearing impaired and can’t communicate via phone calls. Please fix the app or delete my account.

Used for several years thru all the name changes and loved it, but Empower is losing its way. The most recent update lost my password, changed the appearance and destroyed the interface on my android phone. No longer usable. Each new update has increased the intrusive ads, nagging, and annoyance. Please go back to previous versions.

Morgan Stanley has been broken since November of last year. My home mortgage account was not linking for over a year, that’s fine, it was a smaller company. But they can’t fix Morgan Stanley’s connection for nearly a year? Makes the app totally useless is major banking partners don’t work smoothly for extended periods of time

This app perfectly displays all the information you need. If you're a beginner, this is the all for you.

The new update doesn’t let you actually RETRIEVE the authentication code that requires you to momentarily switch out of the app and also ENTER that code – so good luck updating any of your accounts. I wish Mint still existed. Empower fails to sync about half my accounts. I have one ticket that’s been open for literally months, and I continue to get emails saying they are “working on it.” Time to find something better.

What a horrible user experience. Save buttons hidden way down where you would never scroll, no ability to hide the keyboard on the social security entry, no navigating to other menus off the left side bar unless you are on the main account screen. I guess android users are getting all the love! LOL

Awful consumer facing interface

The app is terrible for accessing my account. I’m considering closing my account because of the number of attempts and time it takes to gain access.

Inputting beneficiary address info is impossible after special character is included. Cannot ever remove the special character and thus cannot complete beneficiary address info. Reported this to them and a year later still no fix. If you have an App, make it work and fix problems. I’ll probably rollover my 401(k) to another company for this reason alone.

I called to opt out of retirement plan before contributions took effect. Said I was not listed and directed me back to my employer. Employer told me to call Empower again. I finally found on the application how to opt out, but not before a pay period contribution. Now I will have to fight to get my money back.

Love the empower app that allows transparency when it comes to managing my retirement. Past employers only supplied quarterly statements and required physical paperwork to manage funds, whereas the empower app allows me to see and manage my funds in real time. Amazing tool.

This is a great app

While I agree that the app is fairly good at my own B- rating, it could skyrocket if they adressed timeliness and broken external account update issues with their provider - Yodlee. That said, it’s my opinion bases on their own articles, that Empower is using customer’s aggregated data to enrich their positional knowledge in the process of making customer based broad trends a basis for their own marketings. While I don’t mind that at all, it’d normally be expected that they return the favor by substantially addressing known bugs in the app that they provide their customers, and thereby harvesting customer trends from.

Not sure who decided what but when I decide to change my investments I will decide where they go and at what %’s NOT YOU! Keep this up and I’ll pull everything and invest everything with my real broker.

App will not load and you can’t access Empower’s website on a mobile device without the app. So now just can’t access my Empower account unless I’m using a laptop.

This comment is for the iPhone app version. Previously you could review your holdings with total share count grouped by stock regardless of how many different accounts held them. The latest up da te removed this feature.

Doesn’t get past login screen

Lame, plain white user interface, no real insights or functionality not pretty to look at or play around with.

I used to enjoy the personal capital dashboard. But since I have a work 401(k) through and power, I am no longer allowed to access my own personal dashboard. It has been extremely frustrating and the only way I can access it is on my computer on the website. The mobile app no longer works. It always forces me to log into my work account no matter how much I try or delete and reinstall.

Tiny print. No overall total. Have to look on my iPad to find what I’m looking for.

Account refreshing is a huge issue. About once a month the account balance will freeze and you need to reconnect to the integration. Then reconnecting fails a lot of the time

If you want your information sold, and spam calls every 15 minutes, this is the app for you. Outside of that perk, the app itself is difficult to use, and not very functional. Don’t let that scare you though, the “help” features they have are also completely useless. If I knew it would be this way, I’d of never set up my work retirement, and would’ve just done it myself.

Like many others the latest app update, which it forced me to update to, is broken. Won’t even fully load and crashes my phone. Worked fine before the update. Even fully deleted app and reinstalled. This might be the first app review I’ve ever done. They screwed up that bad.

Easy to use, only seconds to make changes

Fails to successfully connect my Robinhood account. Stuck at the “connecting” screen for multiple minutes and have tried multiple times. Pretty useless app if it can’t connect to any accounts.

Why can’t I enter the amt I want to contribute to my 401k using a number keypad?!?!? A slider, you want me to use a slider to enter my contributions?!?!? Maybe some testing on your site before it goes live.

This app is horrible. It is extremely slow, very buggy, and the screen freezes and then nothing works. To get out of the app you must close it and then any changes has not been saved.

As someone else mentioned, the latest update essentially makes the app useless for viewing multiple accounts combined. You used to get a nice overview showing the total amount you had in each stock and could easily recognize your largest combined holdings. The new update splits them out separately for each account with no combined totals. You might as well just view the individual accounts separately in their own app now.

Very poor user experience on beneficiaries interface

I really dislike the updates in the past year, not being able to see the account totals on the first screen is really frustrating. Most of the time when I click the Money option on the menu it just stalls and never loads.

The new update has made the app nonfunctional. There is literally no way to log in with the new “text or phone” pop up. Put it back how it was!!

They never respond in time. My cash Acct got closed, because “I” took too long to put money in it, but they took four days to respond to an email, then took another 5 days to reply to my follow up email. Also, Why do I have to call someone to get my acct number to put money into MY acct. This bank is disorganized trash. Having me call you, or email you to get MY account number is not a security feature, it is a pain in the Ars to put it mildly. I would not deal with these people if my job did not do 401k through them. Run far far away like Jenny from Forrest Gump!!! Update: They emailed me asking for me SS Card & Driver License. Two days after sending an email “secure” email that I was not able to read. Also, this is the most disorganized mess ever, why is there three different email to send just to get an answer to a question?

In a recent update, you disabled the best feature of this app and the only reason I used it: the ability to see the total holdings of specific stocks across multiple accounts. With the recent update it only shows the holdings listed individually and broken out by each account. If you have 4 accounts with Amazon in them. You’ll see it listed 4 times, instead of your total Amazon holdings. It’s useless to me now.

My login experience recently with through web or mobile has been very terrible. I had no issues until recently where my credentials stopped working and I was forced to do a forgot password to access my account. I’ve had to change my password multiple times to access my account and even sometime when I try to login I get a prompt to sign in again and enter my ssn, zip code and DoB and then it reveals my username and asks if I need help with my password. This has been very frustrating and if I had my way I would move my funds and not have to deal with this terrible user experience anymore.

Dissapointed I cannot display my account balances as a widget

After connecting my accounts I haven’t been able to log back in even after resetting my password 5 plus times.

For the past few weeks I’ve been unable to log into this app. It asks me to contact an empower representative and empower has provided no help whatsoever. I’ve used this app for over five years with no issue before this happened to . Now I’m going to have to find an alternative.

After creating an account and uoading my financial data, I was unable to log back in. Even though I get daily updates, when I attempt to log in, the system doesn't recognize my password and I am placed in an endless loop of pw resets, but never able to get in. My attempts to get this fixed have gone unnoticed.

The company should really take good care of their websites. It causes so much confusion when selecting which account to login. They should remove Previously Personal Capital if users cannot access it anymore.

I used to really like this company. But any company that requires me to use their mobile app looses my business.

I’ve used Empower Personal Capital for some time and a few years back, I changed employers which also moved my retirement to Empower. I used two different apps to manage finances, which I would take any day to this train wreck of a combined app we have now!!! I was forced to combine them about 8 months ago and I’ve not been able to access full views on either account since then. Now, I’ve not been able to even login for the past few days. It’s so frustrating to be forced to seek out new finance management apps because it’s such a heavy lift to convert everything over, but Empower is not leaving us with a choice at this point.

Can no longer access accounts. App has gotten progressively worse over last 6 months with data delays and features I’ll never use. Jut want to see performance data.

I only downloaded this app because the website forces you on mobile. The login experience was long and fraught with bugs. A poor experience from the beginning. I only needed to check one item, being forced to download an app is not customer focused business.

Go to website. They make you login with app. App says “here’s your accounts” click one and it says “not yet ready on app, click continue to go to mobile site” which doesn’t work. And going to site only takes you to app that doesn’t show anything.

An all around great way to view one’s retirement status as an employed & retired State of Tennessee employee. Recent update negatively affected the visual graph for the balance over time - surely it’ll be corrected soon.

In the app I have tried several times to change the last name . But unsuccessful each try.

I had 2 Empower apps. 1 was for my employer retirement account. The other was my former personal capital aggregator. This week Empower merged the two, leaving me with only the retirement data. My years of setting up dozens of outside accounts into personal capital is lost. Looking for another app now. It is sad because I really liked Empower for seeing ALL of my personal capital, not just my company 401k, in one place.

I am in a never ending loop of resetting my password. Very Frustrating! Why did we have to leave the other dashboard and download a new one? Not happy!

Slowest app. Hate that my company uses Empower for 401k Just keeps getting worse. 2 minute login process. Slowly turning into an upselling marketing app. Not great for anything other than basic info, not acceptable for a 401k provider. Better hope you only have 1 fund in portfolio otherwise good luck determining your individual performance as all you get is aggregated info across ALL funds. Want to rebalance with any level of complexity….desktop browser it is as app can’t do it. Basically a platform to try and up sell you to their other products.

Constant issues and their support is frustrating like 12+ emails where they tell you to click things that don’t exist and falsely claimed my issues are resolved. This app is slop.

Very poorly maintained app and site. I always have at least one account that isn’t syncing, and for the past year I can’t login on one platform or the other - for several months I could login online, now for the past 2 months I can’t login from the app.

I miss when this was Mint. Empowers app never works. The login process is redundant and never works. At the end of the login process, when i finally get there, is always an error and won’t log me in. Just a poorly run app.

Loathe entirely empower, very controlling of your money and your decisions. App and website requests and navigation thereof is obsolete and incompetent. I wanted to rollover my IRA account to another company i trust more and does better, Empower told me no. I stopped contributing to this account.

The loan process is awful. On my other job we were retirement savings and could get a loan at1000.00. Here ya'll take out 40.00 a week or more. I added up being at 1600.00. Still could not get a loan. This is not helpful at all. That money can go in my check every week.

Good app, easy to use and stable. Feature request: add the ability to apply interest in the retirement planner. Ie sold property and will invest at 5%.

I have login issues after they migrated to this new app. The first login works after refreshing the app but constantly fails afterwards. Very frustrating!

Constant prompts to update beneficiaries, contact information, etc. are not welcome. Stop asking.

Not sure about all the good ratings, apparently they have friends and family submitting reviews. The app never remembers you forcing two-factor authentication every time - even after you check “remember this device”. Then to find different services they’re not organized in a coherent way. The app needs work.

If you are not able to login on the app try disabling your VPN. The app does not allow you to log in unless you disable your VPN!! Hope this helps some people! :)

The designers and the developers of this app should be fired-the removal of the total balance of all of my accounts, as well as the removal of the balance over time graph are irritating enough that I am seriously considering moving my entire balances to Fidelity, who provides a much better app experience and lower fees. The way that the developers have degrade this app is absolutely pathetic – it’s not giving me the summary dashboard information that I need including the horrible My Money section that cannot be easily edited from the app. If you’re dissatisfied rate this app at one, not a three as the Apple Store method of compiling ratings is corrupt and the user community will never impact the near perfect rating despite all the true negative comments due to the way rating is calculated. Developers – save your canned comments-don’t waste my time.

This company stole my money! Their automated machines and online app told me I would be receiving a $90 check in the mail, then after waiting 3 weeks, I finally called them, only to be told I didn’t have a check coming at all! Garbage company and until they make it right, I will make sure the world knows them for the thieves they are!

I use the site for the Dashboard worked well for a while and gave me a great snapshot of my entire financial life and net worth. Had occasional account connectivity issues. Now the connectivity issues are so persistent I can no longer rely on it. Tech support is completely unhelpful. I think they only have one tech engineer to address issues.

I tried to pull out my money from civilian 401k plan without a 10 percent penalty as Qualified Reservist Distribution. They denied it because agent did not know what I am talking about

I tried downloading this app and signing in, but the app could not find me with my Social Security number, birthday, or my email address. I have an employer that uses Empower. Not being able to find me makes me worried that this app is either a phishing app or that it is just not well thought out and executed. Either way, I deleted it because I could not sign in- it has no use for me.

The app is great, until I have to fix my credit union’s account every day when I open the app. One reason I don’t check daily is because of this problem.

The pain that you are trying to get to disappears and is often difficult to get back to. It took four attempts to add a beneficiary. Glad I don’t have to use it often.

I feel like a prisoner in this company 401k. The fees are high, there is no ‘savings’ type account to put money. There is only a guarantee fund that costs money to use it. Overall a ridiculous place for your money. It might be my company 401k with all the charges not the actual empower. It’s still a sucky place to keep your money. They do mot have an easy way to see how much it actually costs. You have to go through each statement to see the fees you are charged. This day and age, I should be able to run a report, see how much I put in a fund, how much it cost me, how much it’s earned. You can’t. It’s a total fully manual process of going through all your statements a& figuring it out yourself. Totally awful place for your money.

Empower transitioned to a new supposedly better dashboard. Problem is it will not let me access my accounts. I have written MANY times to tech support with nothing but canned replies in response. Since they have neither live nor chat support, I am essentially locked out of my years long account. Totally unacceptable and apparently Empower does not care to resolve. At this point I simply want to cancel my account and erase my data but I cannot do that without access.

Great app

If you liked the old personal capital tool prior to money hungry Empower ruining the experience give Monarch a try. Monarch offers a great experience similar to the personal capital app I once loved. Yes you have to pay a small annual fee, but it beats all the annoying pops from empower trying to sell you stuff. Give Monarch a try, you won’t regret it!

It’s 2026, and Empower still relies on SMS and email for 2FA. For an app that manages my entire net worth and retirement, this is incredibly lazy and dangerous. SMS is vulnerable to SIM swapping and email is easily compromised. Why is there no support for TOTP (2FAS) or hardware keys? Don’t trust your life savings with a company that treats security like it’s 2012.

Can’t find contact phones for help, can’t find tax documents. Electronic means it’s on the website? Can’t log onto the web based version of empower as it redirects to app. App is limited.

I’ve been using this app for at least five years and to this day, is the slowest app on my phone. It takes longer to load than other apps. The navigation is outdated where it goes from left to right, rather than up-and-down scrolling. Also, it does not display the total of the three accounts that I have. In all fairness, I don’t use this for retirement planning so it does not give me the net worth total at the top of the screen. The UI needs a total refresh.

Easy access to my future and can change or increase at anytime of a click of the button. I can control my retirement investments instead of simulating it!

The company recently discontinued their dashboard and pushed everyone using it to this app. I had trouble logging in and contacted them by phone no less than three times and by email 4 times. They just kept saying that I don’t actually have an issue despite showing them screenshots of the error messages. One of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. I will be moving my $80,000 in retirement accounts to fidelity.

The app is great, the only issue is if it tells me I need to call. I have called 4 times already and still have not solved the problem.

When using the app Early in the morning or in afternoon hours. You never really know if the totals reflect current day information or previous day.

Most helpful and friendly staff

This is great for tracking and I have used this app for years back when it was personal capital but at this point I have to update over half of my accounts manually - defeating the purpose of the real time dashboard (imo) - none of my mortgage accounts updated - I changed them all to manual accounts now so I can at least see my correct debt level, one bank checking hasn’t updated in over a year or two despite “resolve itself in a few days” message and now even basic accounts at large institutions like chase are out of sync for over two weeks!

Have had the empower retirement app for almost 5-6 years perhaps and ease of use is a highlight, straightforward and very simple and neat! All you need to know is in your dashboard! Works really great!!!

I spent years using Personal Capital as a quick way to check on my finances. Now it takes 20 minutes to figure out which links or apps to use to log in to a broken app. Miserable.

App is very good. Only one issue. You should be able to logout securely from anywhere within the mobile app. Having the traverse the menu to get to a logout button is an opportunity for better design UX.

App was fantastic replacement when MInt by Intuit went away. But last few weeks the app does not connect to several banks and can’t update. Clearly they gave up on this, time for a new search for a net worth dashboard!

It no longer accurately tracks my info. Off by huge amounts and seems not to update at all. I miss the old one which worked most of the time.

Couldn’t read full info on iPhone screen even if I tried to scroll sideways. Also couldn’t select the percentages I wanted for each of my 4 investments, I selected 50% for one of them and the program selected 16%, 16%, 18% for the others. Not what I wanted. Annoying.

This app is full of errors and the customer support is a clear representation of how terrible this company is. Nothing about the app is easy to use. How it has such a high rating is beyond my understanding. 0/10 and I hate that I’ve made the regrettable decision to invest in this. I have no doubts that I will seeking out a better alternative.

This app needs a search feature the menus rarely contain a log of option (too compact). For example, the TCRS website says one of the things you want can do is reequwst a retirement be fits estimate, but I cannot find that option anywhere. Also, a lot of the content send me back out to the website which also doesn’t have comprehensive menus or a good search feature - what’s the point t of the app if all the info is t goi g to be in it?CAN DO IS REQUEST A RETIREMENT BENEFIT estimate. The 800 number is an option, but takes a long time; if you tell me I can do something g in self-service, there should be be a way to easily find it. Both the app and the website need some more user-friendly interface updates!!!

Every time I use this app it’s constantly losing my information and locks me out when I can’t remember the information. What the hell is the point of having the app and storing info if everyone it updates it loses it, over time makes you retype things again, or limits you on attempts. Why even have this if it’s just going to hassle you???

Buggy app and login regularly stops working

This ALWAYS happens. I can’t login into my account and says my info doesn’t match when trying the forgot username link!

I’ve been using this app for the last 4 years, and of all the finance apps I use, Empower’s app is the worst. At least weekly I encounter “Error while attempting login. Please try again later” messages. Updating the app rarely solves these issues. I don’t know how they’ve gone this long without addressing this problem. Furthermore, I always have to disable my VPN before logging in—a very annoying step.

This app is super slow, takes forever to get logged in. I usually have to close it out and try logging in 3 times at a minimum to be able to log in. If I can get logged in at all. Just an absolutely terrible app.

Website too slow

The app used to be good but in recent weeks or months the app and website have made it impossible to login. Error message looped to resetting password with no effect, and no help from customer service after taking with four different agents. We migrated to Empower after Mint’s demise. Empower was never as good but it was the next best free option. Now Empower has all my data and won’t allow me to login or get it or delete it.

The app only allows me to access my old personal capital dashboard (which I still love - please dont change it). But I cant even see my actual empower 401k. Website just directs me to the app going in a circle. Only way to access is through desktop.

The app just keeps sending me in circles when I add an account and then try to transfer funds.

I had an issue with a loan that is supposedly pending approval from my employer. I called three different times to confirm they received my documents, and each time they said they hadn’t. I confirmed that I’d sent them and got the email that the document was received and was just wondering if everything was okay because it was taking forever. They recited from a script and didn’t even explain which document I was missing. So I sent more documents. Looking in the app, it says it’s still pending approval from my employer but the WEBSITE says something was wrong with the documents. The staff are unhelpful and confusing. I need this to close on a house, and no one is telling me which document is missing! One lady interrupted my sentence when called, put me on hold, came back for five seconds and put me on hold again for about thirty minutes! She was just waiting for me to hang up. To top it off, this company will not accept Docusign pdf files. When loading from the app, it says nothing about it being an incorrect format. I don’t know what files are Docusign vs adobe! I’m terrified that my company put THIS company in charge of my retirement. It’s been nothing but trouble, and no one over the phone can communicate.

They will call and call and then it will take them a month to delete your account.

App is way to slow to load. Transfer of existing money to self-directed brokerage account is very difficult to track down; I think it's impossible in the app. Simple customer service contact info is also not easy to find in the app. App is slow and clunky compared to other more popular brokers I use.

Hard

I’ve been using empower for years, back when it started as personal capital, and was always a fan and recommended to friends. Over the last year, logging in has become so glitchy that 85% of the time I try to log in either using the app or web browser, it just doesn’t work at all. For example, right now the app just shows a loading symbol that never actually completes loading. And when I try to log in on my computer browser, it just cycles me back to the log-in page immediately with no notice of errors. Very disappointed and going to seek a replacement platform soon if this doesn’t improve.

Your app is horrible to use!!!! Do better

After combining the personal and 401k apps, this app is horrible. Hard to navigate, in correct information at times. Unfortunately my work uses Empower so have to go with this app. They need to hire a real UI designer and dev teams.

I’m not sure how this app is so popular. I wanted a simple budgeting app for people with no debt who don’t use credit cards. Empower does not link with our credit union (it sees their system it just does will not complete the process) so I wanted to delete my account. To delete my account I had to send a support ticket and wait and now I’m getting emails and marketing phone calls that will not stop. Plus I cannot get empower to delete my account. What a huge pain.

Why has Empower not complied with what they told me

There is no instruction on app on how to make app work if it is malfunctioning. A simple close out the app and reopen fixed the problem. Shame on app tech to not have a pop up to say close out and reopen. Save on frustration and a call.

Unfortunately I’m literally forced to have an empower retirement account, I didn’t even have a choice in the matter. If I ever have anything good to say about the company I’ll be sure to come back and give them more stars lol.

Easy to move in and out of the app changing allocations as needed

It is very stupid to force the customers to update the app as soon as they try to open app, not realizing that the app user should at least be able to get the information they need and just let the user know that there is an update available, so they can update the app when it is convenient for them, for example I like to be connected to WiFi. The layout of menu is confusing, I have hunt for information.

Not sure if Empower sold out or what but since the old app migrated to the new one I can only get in 10% of the time. Runs in circles asking the same information and even when correct information still does not work. Horrible!

I was using Empower PER everything worked fine until I was forced switch to Empower RET. Now I can’t log in. When I attempt to change my password the app crashes. Can’t get anyone on the phone to help me. No chat support. I’m extremely irritated by this experience. Still getting useless emails so that’s great.

VPNs are pretty much a basic necessity today yet I can’t log in unless I disable my VPN.

Don’t use this app. I used it for years then they tried to combine apps across platforms and now I cannot log in even to delete my info. Instead I’m stuck in a loop of an error message for my password and then if I ask for support the app crashes.

Robinhood now uses Plaid to allow you to view your assets in one place. This app is now useless!

Can you remove the “Empower accounts” category? It’s confusing the heck out of me.

Face ID doesn’t work and they have no Helpdesk that you can call. They only assist via email and nobody cares about resolving issues with the app. I get a different person each time I email and they just keep asking me the same questions over and over. In the end, they have no process for escalating the issue to somebody who can resolve it or even call me to troubleshoot.

Really tired of having to go through two factor authentication every 60 seconds of using this app. You can look at your account details one second, and the next you can't look at anything and you need to contact a representative. After logging out and logging back in, you can see all of your things again, but only for a moment. None of the app updates have improved this problem.

Very simple easy to use love the app. You guys really made it simple to save seeing everything very easy to use just at a punch of the button. Empower is the best

Thanks to a recent update that is trying to link accounts across Empower, it gives me an error that I can’t link it by the app and then doesn’t even let me check my default account and I’m stuck in a login and error loop, unable to see my account.

Confusing and not intuitive. Difficult to move money between investments and change future investments

Endless loop of having to reset password and contact customer service. Looks like a common issue, but their troubleshooting guide to address this doesn’t work.

Was forced to do an update today and to my surprise empower eliminated the total of all my accounts at the top of the screen. Now I have to add all my accounts manually. And with the latest update you eliminated the total of my 457. This company was an awful choice by the NC Retirement System. You all suck at life!

Why did my account get moved over here. None of my data is here and I’m being forced to use an old company retirement account that I’m no longer associated with. This is dumb.

Last update sucks. Took away the combined 401k and social security monthly payments would be. Fix it back to the way it was!

6pm and every link I click on says “Due to an error this site is unavailable; call us,” or “your plan doesn’t allow you to see this page”. Yet during business hours I have full app access OR full access if I access my account thru my employer’s WorkDay portal. More importantly, the app shows CONTRIBUTIONS that aren’t visible on the desktop until such time this awful company allows it! My contribution wasn’t even posted to my account until now…after checking my account every 30 minutes since midnight!!! Don’t use this app. Don’t participate in your employer 401k if this pathetic company is used. Whatever you do - stay away from compared to Fidelity & others, this is company is stuck in the dark ages. Nothing is automated. It takes DAYS to process (whereas else it’s automatic) and the people employed here aren’t the brightest. If you’ve made the mistake of calling…you know exactly what I mean.

Why the change? Why were my deductions dropped to 8%? There now at 13% layout different?

I use a lot of retirement websites. This one easily rates in the bottom 10. Works, don’t work. Hourglass on such a regular basis. Information is so vague on funds. One has to look it up on other sites to get basic info on the funds. Sorry, but again. Site is so far behind the times.. I dread it each time I have to get on.

Online upload processes was easy

I have the desk top version and it works fine. I’ve downloaded the app multiple times and it never works. I can’t even log in, I get an error message and advised to call a representative. I just tried the most recent app update and still can’t log in. This is worthless if I can’t even log in.

Empower withholds my contribution instead of posting my money to my account

These people have rules and take your money before telling you that you can’t close the account on your own will

When opening other accounts option doesn’t show. Have to close the app and then open again. Transaction screen freezes and locks up the app

I am not sure why the total for all plans was removed within the app but it needs to be brought back. Horrible change.
